David Horsey's lead cut for final round
EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Englishman David Horsey will take a narrow advantage into the final round of the Made in Denmark, clinging on atop the leaderboard after being reeled in by Australian Terry Pilkadaris.
Horsey made a brilliant start with three birdies and an eagle in the first six holes, stretching his lead to seven shots.
However, a mixed back nine meant he ultimately signed for a three under par 68, allowing Pilkadaris to claw his way back into contention with a superb 65.
English pair Chris Paisley (66) and John Parry (69) are four shots off Horsey’s lead on 11 under, while Søren Kjeldsen and Mads Søggard are the best placed Danes, both on eight under par after rounds of 68 and 69 respectively.
Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort was jumping once again, with nearly 23,000 spectators – 1,700 more than in the third round last year – creating an electric atmosphere.
Quotes
David Horsey
“I got off to a great start so I was obviously very pleased with that. There were a few tough holes in the middle that I didn’t tackle that well, and obviously it was disappointing to bogey the last. It’s tricky, though, as there’s a cross-wind out there. I maybe didn’t hit it quite close enough with my wedges in the middle of the back nine, but I’m still in a great position tomorrow. I didn’t have a clue that I was seven clear. There aren’t that many leaderboards out there, and anyway I was just trying to focus on myself. You can’t win a tournament on a Saturday so I was just trying to play my own game and get as far ahead as I could. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
Terry Pilkadaris
“It was an enjoyable day – you can’t complain when you shoot 65. I just holed some mid-range putts today, some ten to 20 footers. I holed three to four of them and that really gets your score going. I drove the ball really well and managed to capitalise on my chances. I saw on the sixth that David was 17 under and I knew I had to get going a bit. But anything can happen in golf; things can change very quickly. I’ve pegged it back and I’ll keep going tomorrow.”
Chris Paisley
“Two years ago I was going into the last bit of the season with not very much money on the board and it’s not a nice position to be in. This year it’s making a big difference that I’ve nearly got my card wrapped up. I’m much freer and enjoying it more. The 16th is a hole where you’re looking forward to it on the few holes before. When you’re on the 15th green and you can see all the people and hear them cheering for the group in front, it’s amazing. It’s one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had on a golf course.”

DeChambeau v Bard for US amateur title

USGA NEWS RELEASE
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Illinois – Southern Methodist University rising senior Bryson DeChambeau, the 2015 NCAA champion, will meet Derek Bard, a University of Virginia third-year junior in the 36-hole final match of the U.S. Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club.
DeChambeau, 21, of Clovis, Calif., a 2015 United States Walker Cup Team selection for next month's match in England, defeated Sean Crocker, a University of Southern California sophomore, 4 and 3, in Saturday’s semi-finals.
“To be here with the best players in the world that have played here and won here, is pretty incredible: Bobby Jones, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and a couple others, it's incredible,” said DeChambeau.
Bard, 20, of New Hartford, N.Y., beat Kenta Konishi, a Japanese national team member, 3 and 2, in the other semi-final.
The finalists receive exemptions into the 2016 U.S. Open, three years of exemptions into the U.S. Amateur and a likely invitation to the 2016 Masters Tournament. The champion also receives an exemption into the 2016 Open Championship at Royal Troon.

Elvira's third Challenge Tour win earns him

immediate promotion to European Tour

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Nacho Elvira claimed a stunning two-shot victory in the ROLEX Trophy at the Golf Club de Genève to earn immediate promotion to The European Tour after his third European Challenge Tour win of the season.

The Spaniard previously triumphed in the Challenge de Madrid and the Kӓrnten Golf Open presented by Mazda and this composed win in Geneva – holding off Road to Oman Rankings leader Ricardo Gouveia – sees him return to The European Tour, having played there in the 2014 season.

The 28 year old becomes the third player after Frenchman Benjamin Hebert and Swede Kristoffer Broberg to claim their career-changing third title at the prestigious ROLEX Trophy, where only 42 players make up the field and compete concurrently in a Pro-Am for the duration of the tournament.

Elvira was overwhelmed by his accomplishment after his final round of 67, five under par, took him to 24 under par for the week.

“It is unbelievable, it’s hard to describe,” he said. “I have been working for this very hard this year and it finally paid off. I feel very excited and I am very happy.

“It is a dream to be back on The European Tour so soon. After I got my second win I got a bit too worked up trying to get the third win but I then started to relax and it went better.
“My aim for the season had been to get in the top 15 in the Rankings, so this is beyond my expectations but so much better.
“The turning point of the round was when I holed for eagle on the 13th. I saw Ricardo was one ahead of me and I had to make something happen, and I hit a beautiful drive, great shot at the hole and holed the putt. That really got me going and I made three birdies in a row after.
“It’s a bit too soon to talk about my schedule for the end of the year but I want to try to play as much as I can on The European Tour, every tournament I can.”
Portugal’s Gouveia could not have done much more, his 66 his fourth round below 70 this week, and when he took the lead with nine holes remaining it seemed likely he would add another title to his win in the AEGEAN Airlines Challenge Tour by Hartl Resort.
The 23 year old consolidated his commanding lead in the Road to Oman Rankings with another top five finish, his sixth this season, and was circumspect after coming so close to victory.
He said: “I played one of the best rounds of my career but I think the three putts on the 15th knocked me out a little bit – I had a good chance for eagle and I ended with a par.

“I tried to make three birdies to finish and I did make them but when you shoot 22 under and you do not win there is no much more you could have done.”

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox took third place, finishing five shots adrift of Elvira after starting the day within two of the lead, to continue his fine form since coming to Europe this summer – this was his fifth top ten finish in six Challenge Tour events, including one victory.

England’s Gary Boyd fired the round of the day, his 64 earning him a share of fourth place with compatriot Ryan Evans on 17 under par.

North of Scotland Open amateur stroke-play championship

Darren Watson leads by six at Lossiemouth

Cruden Bay's Darren Watson is halfway towards the biggest win of his golfing career, writes Colin Farquharson .
Little known on the national front, Watson has spreadeagled the field in this weekend's SGU 72-hole Order of Merit event: the North of Scotland Open amateur stroke play championship for the David Blair Trophy over the Moray Golf Club Old Course at Lossiemouth.
He is six shots clear of the field with Sunday's two rounds to come after shaving a stroke off the course record with a seven-under-par 64, followed by a 68 for 10-under 132, a staggering 14 under the combined CSS total (2x73)
Three men share second place on 138 - former Scottish amateur champion and reinstated professional Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) 68-70, Inverness youngster Rory Franssen (72-66) and Alan Sutherland (Cupar) (67-71).
Hume won his first SGU Order of Merit event only two weeks ago at the Leven Gold Medal in Fife where he prevailed in a play-off.
Moray member Kyle Godsman was beaten in a play-off for the David Blair Trophy 12 months ago and he won last weekend's 72-hole North-east District Open at Cruden Bay.
It's an intriguing set-up for the final 36 holes. The way Watson is playing he should win comfortably.
But if an experienced campaigner like Hume gets the scent of victory on the final day, anything might happen

North of Scotland Open Amateur Stroke-play Championship

It's elementary for Watson - leads North of Scotland Open with a 64 at Lossiemouth
Cruden Bay's Darren Watson set a cracking pace in the first round of the North of Scotland open amateur stroke-play championship for the David Blair Trophy over the Moray Golf Club's Old Course at Lossiemouth today (Sat)
Watson opened up a two-shot lead in this SGU 72-hole Order of Merit tournament with a seven-under-par round of 64, shaving a stroke off the course record from the blue tees.
He got off to a flying start by birdieing the first, second, third and sixth. A bogey at the seventh did not halt his progress. He birdied the ninth to reach the turn in four-under-par 31.
Watson was finding it all elementary and he boosted his total bag of birdies to eight with gains at the 11th, 15th and 77 for 33 home.
Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) had almost as many birdies as the leader but a couple of bogeys, at the sixth and seventh in halves of 33 dragged him down to second place on 66 at the end of the first round.
Johnston birdied the first, second, eighth, ninth, 12th, 17th and 18th.
Former Scottish amateur champion Barry Hume (Haggs Castle), winner earlier this month of the Leven Gold Medal tournament in Fife, shot a three-under 68 despite a triple bogey 7 at the eighth. He
 had six birdies to compensate.
Home club member Kyle Godsman, who won the previous weekend's North-east District Open at Cruden Bay and who lost a play-off for the North of Scotland Open 12 months ago, had a steady 70 to start with, halves of 32-38. A double bogey 6 at the 12th kept him from breakng 70.
