Shane Lowry's final 66 wins him Bridgestone

Invitational by two strokes
EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Ireland’s Shane Lowry held off Major Champions Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk and Justin Rose with a flawless final round of 66 to claim a dramatic two-shot victory in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio.
The 28 year old produced some memorable moments at Firestone Country Club, including a vital 17ft putt to save par on the 14th hole and an improbable birdie on the 18th hole, where from a difficult lie in the rough he clipped a greenside tree with his second shot to land 11ft from the hole, before sinking a nerveless putt.
That was his fourth birdie of the day, after gains on the second, eighth and tenth holes, for an 11 under par winning score, two shots clear of Watson, who also closed with a 66. Joint overnight leaders Rose and Furyk both carded two over par rounds of 72 to finish four shots back on seven under par.
It is Lowry’s third European Tour victory, following his maiden win as an amateur in the 2009 Irish Open and his follow-up title at the 2012 Portugal Masters.
Lowry succeeds Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy as winner of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, and becomes the second European Tour member to win a World Golf Championship in 2015, following McIlroy’s victory in the WGC- Cadillac Match Play.

Key player quotes

Shane Lowry – 66 (-11 total)

“It doesn't get any better than that, does it? To be honest, it hasn't sunk in yet.  To beat those guys down the stretch on a golf course like this, probably one of the toughest golf courses, especially in this condition, with how firm it was this week, that we  play all year. I said at the start of the week, I'd take eight under par, and I thought that might win. So to shoot 11 under par on this golf course just shows a lot about my game, that it's good enough to compete at any level.”

Bubba Watson – 66 (-9 total)
“It was a good week – finishing second. At the end of the week, you always want a top 10, to have a chance on Sunday, and I had a chance. So it was close, but not close enough.”

Justin Rose – 72 (-7 total)
“The early three-putt just kind of got me feeling a little bit timid on the greens. When you're not seeing putts go in, it's hard. I tried to fire myself up around the turn, and chipped in  number nine – a great shot out of the fairway bunker to about 12 feet at number ten then three-putted there just to kind of really kick myself back in the you know what.

"From there, I fought as hard as I could today. Going down 17, I was eight under, Bubba was in the clubhouse at 9. Shane was 10 on the last, but in the trees. So I kind of felt like nine might be a good number. With two holes to play, I could have had a chance still, but obviously it was great play from Shane.”
