Scottish seniors match-play championship qualifying at Stirling

McManus, Craw leading qualifiers for

Scottish Seniors' Match-play at Stirling

By GORDON THOMSON
Joe McManus (Uphall), pictured below, and Rob Craw (Glenbervie) led the qualifiers  for the Scottish Seniors Matchplay Championship at Stirling today with excellent totals of 143 after each produced a second round score of 70.

Laurie Chancellor (Inverness), who led after the first qualifying round, added a 74 for a total of level par 144 for third place, one shot ahead of Bob Stewart (Tulliallan), Graham Bell (Downfield) and David Gardner (Broomieknowe) who all tied on 145.
The top 32 players now progress to the knock-out stages with the last place going to John Johnston (Lanark ) on 158, just edging out  Robert Denholm (Duddingston ) by virtue of the better second round.
The casualties included Bill Erskine (Kilsyth Lennox), Ricky Gray (Troon St Meddans) and Brian Christie (Comrie), pictured below, who had a hole in one at the sixth hole today.
John Broadfoot (Turnberry) led the qualifiers for the Super Seniors (over 65) Championship which is played on  a handicap basis.
Both match-play draws have resulted in some cracking ties which start at 9 am tomorrow.

Conditions were better for today’s second round but with the course again playing its full length the CSS was 73  for the par 72 course.

FROM THE ROYAL ABERDEEN GOLF CLUB WEBSITE
Due to the reputation and condition of Royal Aberdeen Golf Club we are experiencing unprecedented demand from visitors wishing to play our fine links.
We have reached the limit where we can successfully balance the needs of our members, their guests and visitors and are therefore not accepting any more visitor bookings until our diary for 2016 opens this November."
Ronnie MacAskill, the club's director of golf, told Scottishgolfview today:
"We welcome bookings for the 2016 season and beyond.'"
The Royal Aberdeen club, founded in 1780 and  the sixth oldest in the world, has a history of putting the interests of its members first by not hosting too many open tournaments for national organisations such as the Scottish Golf Union.

Golf Data Lab Scottish youths championship report, scores

Thurlow hangs on to lead by two with two

rounds to go at Irvine tomorrow

Murrayfield's first-round record-breaker Alastair Thurlow took eight shots more on the second day but a two-over-par 73 for 138 was good enough to send him into the final day's 36 holes at Irvine Golf Club with a lead of two shots in the Golf Data Lab Scottish youths championship
Two Norwegians from the Fana club, Jarand Ekeland Arnoy (69-140) and Lars Mjeldheim Sandvoll (68-142), moved up menacingly to lurk in second and joint third place at the end of the second round.
Two Scots share third place with Mjeldheim - Ben Murray (Portlethen) and Callum Cochrane (Marriott Dalmahoy).
Murray has had steady rounds of 72-70 while Cochrane has been even steadier with a pair of par 71s.
The field came down to the leading 40 and ties at the end of play today. Those with aggregates of 150 and higher were cut.
The CSS so far has been 73 73.
