Law just makes cut but Booth crashes out

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Jens Dantorp defied heavy rain to set the pace on 14 under par at the halfway stage of the Challenge Tour's Kärnten Open
The Swede lost his playing privileges on The European Tour last year, but did his chances of securing a prompt return to the top tier no harm at all after moving to a 14 under par total of 128 at Golfclub Schloss Finkenstein, in the Austrian town of Godersdörf.
Dantorp notched seven birdies but perhaps saved his best for last when, after hitting his drive on the par ninth hole into the water, he almost holed his fourth shot to set up a tap-in par.
That set the seal on a resilient round of 65 which saw Dantorp establish a three-shot lead over his compatriot Alexander Björk and Spaniard Nacho Elvira.

Wallace Booth, after an opening 63, missed the cut with a 76 for 139, just one stroke too many.
David Law was the only Scot to survive and he need a four-under par total of 138 to make it on the limit mark.

South Korean's late 64 cuts Molinari lead to

 one shot at Wentworth halfway

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Francesco Molinari birdied the final two holes for the second day running to maintain his position at the top of the leaderboard at the BMW PGA Championship with a three under par round of 69, but a sublime 64 from South Korea’s Byeong Hun An late in the day reduced the Italian’s lead to one shot.
Molinari, who has finished in the top ten in each of the past three years at Wentworth Club, followed his flawless opening round of 65 by dropping two shots in the first three holes of his second round, but hit back strongly with five birdies to move to ten under par for the tournament.
The round of the day belonged to South Korean rookie An, who opened with five birdies in his first seven holes, before picking up three more shots on the back nine to surge through the field and into second place on nine under par.
Argentine Emiliano Grillo posted two eagles on the back nine - on the 12th and 18th holes – in a seven under par round of 65 to sit two shots back in a share of third place with Thongchai Jaidee at the halfway mark.

Thai Jaidee carded six birdies in his bogey-free round of 66, while a shot further back is Englishman James Morrison, winner of last week’s Open de España, who continued his good form with a round of 66 to lie three shots off the pace in fifth position.

Key player quotes

Francesco Molinari – 69 (-10 total)
“I'm really happy.  The start is really tricky, with the first three holes.  I think I played them okay.  My chipping wasn't good enough on the first and on the third to save par.  I managed to steady the ship and made a few birdies coming in at the end, so it is a good day.
“I enjoy playing here.  I've played well the last few years.  There's a bit of good Italian karma here with (Costantino) Rocca winning and Matteo (Manassero) winning a few years ago.”

Byeong Hun An – 64 (-9 total)
“It is definitely one of my best round.   I hit 17 greens, and the missed green, it was a good shot, but just missed the green.  I hit it really solid today.  I didn't have any putts over 30 feet to be honest and every putt was a birdie chance.  I still missed a couple out there, but the score, eight under, is pretty good.”
Emiliano Grillo – 65 (-8 total)
“I've been hitting it well.  My stats for the last four years, I’ve been on the Top‑10 in greens in regulation, and I knew that the only thing I needed to adjust was the putting and I've been working a lot on that and it's been paying off.”
Thongchai Jaidee – 66 (-8 total)
“The key was putting so well today.  You can see the score is quite low today.  I made only one mistake today on the 11th hole. I cannot complain about the round.  I haven’t putted well like this in a long time. That's why we have 66 today.”

Clark wins North Seniors Open by four strokes

By GORDON THOMSON
Ronnie Clark (Erskine), a winner three times on last year’s over-55s' circuit added the North Seniors Open to his growing collection of titles with a four-stroke victory at Elgin today.
Having missed the first event through injury, Ronnie was keen to get his season under way  and with his closest first round pursuers falling away, a second round 76 on the demanding Elgin course was good enough to take the title.
Senior international David Gardner (Broomieknowe) and Joe McManus (Uphall ) were joint second on 150 with Ian Angus (Duff House Royal) a shot further back.
Among the older brigade, the far travelled Ken Thomson (Bramhall Park) showed fine form to finish equal fifth with Stuart Drysdale
(Turnhouse ) and Lindsay Blair (Grangemouth).
Last year’s winner, Barry Brooks (Meldrum House) made a creditable defence with a top ten finish.

Stephen Gray scored his first win in Scotland this year with a four-under-par 66 earning the Hayston man the £1,000 first prize in today's Largs pro-am.

A winner of a Costa del Sol pro-am in February, Gray, pictured, had a round of five birdies and one bogey over the par-70 course. Out in three-under 31 with the help of sub-par figurs at the shot first, long third and ninth, Gray also birdied the long 12th and 13th before dropping his only stroke of the round, at the 15th.
Eastwood pro David Orr, fourth in the Gleneagles Scottish professional championship in his only other competitive outing this season, finished second with a 68 (31-37) to collect £799.
Local Largs man Paul Robinson claimed third place with a 69 in which he had five birdies but four bogeys. He earned £600.
Mark Kerr (Marriott Dalmahoy) led the BMW No 2 team of Russell Borrie (handicap 18), Angus Borrie (11) and Robert Wilson (11) to victory in the team event with a net score of 57, 13-under-par.

KING-SIZED ROLL-UP NOW £20,000

NEWS RELEASE
Gary King claimed his second consecutive HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour title when he closed out the Buildbase Open with a final-round 74 to finish the tournament ten under par for a two-stroke victory at Frilford Heath Golf Club.

The 24-year-old secured his maiden EuroPro victory at Celtic Manor last week  and always looked likely to make it two in two at when he shaved four shots of the Red Course record to sign for a career-best ten-under-par  62 in Wednesday’s opening round.

His playing partner for the final round, James Frazer (Pennard Golf Club), started the day seven back but applied the pressure from the off with a birdie at the first. With four holes to play and King (Tyrrells Wood Golf Club) one over for the day there were just three shots separating the two.

However, when Frazer bogeyed the 15th and King returned his round score to par with a birdie at the same hole there was enough distance between the pair for King to be unfazed when Frazer cut the gap to four with a birdie at 16. King had an unplayable ball and made double bogey on the 17th but Frazer also dropped a shot, meaning that even a bogey at the last couldn’t deny him.

Seven days after collecting his first EuroPro Tour title King again took home a £10,000 winner’s cheque, a brand new Motocaddy with lithium battery, a Bushnell Tour X, Bolle sunglasses and £500 to spend at HotelPlanner.com.

With two wins already to his name King is likely to end the season in the Order of Merit top five, which brings with it a category on next summer’s Challenge Tour. However, the Tyrrells Wood golfer is hopeful of progressing to Europe’s second-tier tour before then.

“I finished double bogey, bogey but I knew it didn’t really matter,” admitted King. “James played great golf today and there were a few points out there where it was looking pretty tight but I managed to get a couple of crucial birdies on 14 and 15.

“I felt my game plan was pretty strong all day. I didn’t execute as well as I had done the last two days but I think with a strong enough game plan and good enough execution I was able to get it done.

“I did feel like I was in control all day because I knew on the back nine there were some good chances. With the game plan I had in place I did feel that around par was going to be about the number and fortunately, even though I went two over, it was good enough in the end.

“It has been a great start to the season. This is my seventh year on the EuroPro so not to win in the first six and then win the first two events of my seventh year is a great feeling.

“I will be playing at Burhill next week but after that I’ll be looking to try and get some invites onto the Challenge Tour, so we’ll see what happens. Will and Jack managed to get on after winning two EuroPro tournaments last year so hopefully I can get in.”

Highlights of the Buildbase Open will air on Sky Sports at 8pm on Tuesday, June 2.
The HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour season continues with the Kerry London Championship at Burhill Golf Club in Surrey, which commences next Thursday, May 28.
