EuroPro Tour cut on Round 1 scores
after Day 2 a write-off
The cut in the opening 54-hole event of the PGA EuroPro Tour was made on the Round 1 scores after bad weather prevented any player from completing his second round today.
Players with scores of par 69 and better - some 61 of them - will play 36 holes on Friday.
The
only Scottish-based players still in with a crack at the £10,000 first
prize are Lloyd Saltman and Scott Borrowman on 65 - three behind leader
Alan Dunbar - Greg McBain, Paul Shields and Gareth Wright on 67 and
Neil Fenwick with a 69.
A total of 13 Scots were eliminated by the 18-hole cut, including Craig Lawrie, pictured above during his first round.
Trevor Fisher Jnr nets first round advantage

South Africa's Trevor Fisher Jnr overcame limited preparation to claim the first round lead at the Open de España with a seven under par 65 at Real Club de Golf El Prat.
After a long flight from Johannesburg on Monday, Fisher only managed nine holes of practice on Tuesday before walking the rest of the course during the pre-tournament pro-am.
However, that did not prevent the World Number 172 from carding eight birdies and just one bogey in an opening 65 which left him one shot ahead of local favourite Eduardo de la Riva, compatriot Darren Fichardt and England's Tommy Fleetwood.
De la Riva is attached to the tournament venue of Real Club de Golf El Prat and features, along with his father and grandfather, on the honours board for winners of the Barcelona Championship in the clubhouse.
Starting on the back nine, the Qualifying School graduate eagled the par five tenth and birdied the 11th and 12th, before picking up shots on the second and fourth in a flawless round.
Fleetwood had two eagles and three birdies in a round of 66 as he looks to remain inside the Official World Golf Ranking's top 60 after next week's BMW PGA Championship in order to qualify for next month's US Open.
Four-time European Tour winner Fichardt also eagled the 18th, as well as carding five birdies against a single bogey on the 12th.
England’s Qualifying School graduate Matt Ford and Chile’s Challenge Tour graduate share fifth on five under, but defending champion Miguel Angel Jiménez - whose victory 12 months ago extended his record as the oldest winner in European Tour history - had to settle for a level par 72 and tournament favourite Sergio Garcia shot a three over 75.
Key Player Quotes
Trevor Fisher Jnr 65 (-7)
"I hit one or two loose shots but felt I kept the momentum going, which is key to any good round of golf.
"I sank one or two good putts for par and overall putted really well today, which helped.
"It's nice to be out here. I can play a full schedule now which is good. It's nice to play with some of the best players in the world. Hopefully we can put a few more good rounds together."
Eduardo De La Riva 66 (-6)
“It’s my best score in a tournament here,.
“I had a great start; I hit a good drive, a safe second shot and I knew the third was perfect since the moment I hit it. Holing from 100 metres for an eagle is a big boost, and then I kept it going. It has been a great day of golf.
“I know the course perfectly, the greens and the strategy, but it’s a strong course and you need to hit good shots and keep very calm.
“It’s great to play at home and to sleep in my own bed. I don’t feel any extra pressure; I just need to play my game and keep doing the same things. I enjoy playing in front of my family and all my friends and I will try to make them enjoy watching me.”
Tommy Fleetwood 66 (-6)
"I was gutted to miss out on the Masters but at the moment my golf is in a good place so I've just got to keep my head down and keep going.
"I did not play well in the pro-am on Wednesday then did some good work on the range and came out this morning and hit it really good. I did not miss many fairways and it was just a case of holing a few putts.
"The greens are tricky and we had to make the most of them this morning. Yesterday was firm, fast and tough and this morning was softer and the greens were a bit slower.
"Having the conditions like we did you had to go out and try to make a score."

Meat-free McGee gets his teeth into Made in
Denmark Challenge with a leading 67
EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
A new (mostly) meat-free diet, coupled with a winter training programme in America and Portugal, ensured Ruaidhri McGee continued his outstanding start to the season by sinking his teeth into the first-round lead of the Made in Denmark Challenge.
Playing in the first match of the day off the tenth tee at Royal Copenhagen Golf, McGee, pictured, attached to the Rosapenna Hotel and Golf Resort in County Donegal. posted a fine first round of four under par 67 to take a one-shot lead from Englishman Jack Senior, with Italy’s Nino Bertasio, Sweden’s Oskar Henniggson and the Portuguese, José Filipe Lima a further shot back.
“I just played well out there – I had a couple of early birdies which got me onto the round and then I just hit loads of fairways and gave myself chances,” said the 24 year old McGee. “I took another three of them on the back nine but then dropped one on my 17th hole but overall it was a pretty good start.
“It’s a difficult course but it played a lot better this morning than it did during practice on Tuesday when the rain was coming in. It’s a fair test though and I think it suits my eye well even though at the start of the week it might be a bit long for me.
“I have been playing well so just keep it going and hopefully produce more of the same over the next few days. It’s certainly a good start, so let’s see what happens over the next few days.”
Having spent a month in America and then three weeks in Portugal practising and embarking on his new diet before the start of the Challenge Tour season, McGee made a solid start to the year with a top 20 finish in Kenya in April before tying for second place in Madrid a couple of weeks later.
A tie for eighth place in Turkey last week cemented McGee’s fine start to the year and propelled him to sixth place in the Road to Oman Rankings, and he continued his fine form in the Danish Capital to take the early lead.
“I have prepared well for the season this year – I went over to America to practice for a month in Palm Springs and then had three weeks in Portugal so it was great to get some real quality practice in before the season got underway. I have no excuses now!
“I think the biggest change I made over the winter was to my diet. I have gone meat-free and it has made a big difference to me. I wouldn’t quite say I’m on the same diet as Novak Djokovic or Justin Rose but it is making a difference and I feel in much better shape than I did before.”
Royal Copenhagen Golf proved as stiff a test as many of the players had predicted on Tuesday and Wednesday, with swirling cross-winds giving every player in the field plenty to think about.
Denmark’s home contingent enjoyed a mixed day in front of outstanding crowds at Royal Copenhagen, with over 1200 spectators enjoying round one of the Made in Denmark Challenge.
J B Hansen leads the home challenge after a one under par 70 left him well placed to make a move up the leaderboard over the coming three days.

Fraser's the man with a round to go in Senior
PGA Championship
SCROLL DOWN FOR PGA REPORT
FROM THE COURSE
Carnoustie's
Fraser Mann leads the field by one stroke into the final round of the
Senior PGA professional championship at the Foxhills Golf Resort,
Chertsey in Surrey.
Mann, pictured,
surged to the front with a two-under-par 70 over the No 2 course,
birdieing the fourth, seventh, eighth and 14th. Bogeys at the 16th and
17th robbed of the chance to go into the last 18 holes over the par-73
Bernard Hunt course with a clear lead.
He is in pole position on two-under-par 143 after opening with a par 73 on the longer course.
Downfield's Kenny Hutton, originally from Muir of Ord, and Stephen McAllister are the next best Scots in joint seventh place on 149. Hutton scored 75-74, McAllister 74-75
Then comes Garry Harvey (Kinross), sharing 11th place on 150 (77-73).
Lossiemouth-born
Albert Mackenzie, runner-up last year, dropped down to tied 20th after slumping from a 71 to
an 81 with birdie-less round which included a double-bgeoy 5 at the

Mann stays on course despite 'Biblical rainstorm'
PGA NEWS RELEASE
A downpour of Biblical proportions washed away the hopes of many of the PGA’s senior brigade chasing glory at Foxhills.
Players
described the rain-lashed conditions as ‘brutal’ and ‘torture’ as they
battled to remain in the Senior PGA Professional Championship.
It
was in stark contrast to balmy sunshine of the opening round when it
felt like summer had finally arrived and optimism was as a high as the
temperature.
By
the end of the second round, however, just two players remained in the
red at the top of the leaderboard. Scotland’s Fraser Mann (Carnoustie),
who carded a best of the day two-under-par 70 on the Longcross course,
and John Harrison (Matfen Hall), who is a shot further back after a 73.
Roger Tuddenham (Hedge End Golf Centre) put in another steady round to sit third at level par.
Overnight
leader Graeme Bell struggled to a 78, to slip to three over, while last
year’s runner-up Albert MacKenzie posted an 81 – but comfortably made
the cut, which came at 11-over-par for the top 50 and ties.
Mann,
a two-time PGA Cup player and with two top 10 finishes under his belt
in this tournament, was sailing along the sodden fairways having notched
four birdies in his first 15 holes until some choppy waters on 16 and
17 saw him bogey both, taking some of the gloss off his round.
“I just played nicely hitting the fairways and greens,” said Mann.
“I
didn’t hit many bad shots and I had the wife on the bag, who played a
role keeping the clubs nice and dry. The round wasn’t anything special
and the only disappointment was the bogey on the 17th.
“With
regards to tomorrow it will be the same as today – just take it one
hole at a time. It’s nice to make the cut and be in a good position as
my aim was to make the top 20, which I’ve done the past two years
finishing in the top 10.”
His main rival will be Harrison, runner up in 2010, who admitted he ‘hung on’ after the heavens opened.
“It was torture,” was his summary of his round.
“It was OK for the first few holes but once the rain came it was relentless and I’m soaked to the skin.
“The
lads did a good job of keeping the greens open and it’s a pity about
the rain as it’s a fantastic course the Longcross. But it was a brute
today because it was playing so long and so scoring was really
difficult.
“Once
that rain came I said to my wife, who was on the bag, if I can finish
under par for my total I’ll be happy. It gives me chance tomorrow and
that was my main aim. It was just a case of hanging on today.”
A
total of 59 players made the final round. The winner will pick up a
cheque for £5,250 and secure a place, as will the rest of the top 20
players, in next month’s ISPS Handa PGA Senior Professional Championship
at Close House.

Moray and Nairn League win by Nairn
By ROBIN WILSON

By ROBIN WILSON
On the 68th staging of the Moray and Nairn Golf League, host club Moray had high hopes of regaining the G R Thomson Shield they last won five years ago but in a showdown final tie against Nairn they were only able to share the points which left Nairn the champions for a fourth time in five years.
Since 1990 Nairn have become the
dominant club in the league with 10 league successes and last weekend they
opened with a 5-3 win over Forres while Moray made the worst of starts, on the
receiving end of a 5½ – 2½ defeat from neighbouring rivals Elgin.
In their only Saturday tie Nairn recorded a
win over Elgin when Robert Smith brought in the vital point against Andrew Moir
to split the 3½ -3½ tie to 4½ to 3½ in
their favour. However Moir in this game added to league history by being being
the youngest player to record a hole in one when he aced the par three 4th hole
using a six iron.
Sunday was decisive for all clubs. Nairn
maintained their 100% record with a comfortable 6-2 win in the derby match with
the holders Nairn Dunbar to set up a potential title decider with Moray in the
final afternoon game. Moray were equally impressive in beating Forres.
So a
Nairn win or draw would be enough to regain the Shield but a Moray win would put
them level on points but ahead of Nairn on games won difference.
Elgin faced a Nairn Dunbar team
determined to finish on a positive note and when Freddie Brown won 4 and 3 the
match was drawn 4-4 to end Elgin’s challenge. Moray started well against Nairn
and quickly established a 3-0 lead. However the top games were all favouring
Nairn and Andrew Burgess, Robert Smith and Fraser Fotheringham brought the
match level.
Sandy Scott went down to his first defeat of the weekend to Chris
Stuart but Sean Burgess maintained his unbeaten record to win 3 and 2 over Kyle
Godsman, and give Nairn the crucial point.
Stalwart of many league campaigns, Robert
Smith also enjoyed an unbeaten weekend and contributing three wins from their
four games were the Nairn younger trio of Scott Burgess, Sandy Scott and Finlay
Asher.

Tain win Dornoch Firth League at Invergordon
FROM ROBIN WILSON
Tain Golf Club won the 43rd staging of the
Dornoch Firth League competition at Invergordon on the completion
of the seven -a-side inter-club matches between Brora, Golspie, Royal Dornoch,
Tain and Invergordon.
At the request of Golspie Golf Club, whose greens have still
not fully recovered from a winter blight, Invergordon agreed to stage the
encounters, giving a definite advantage for the hosts to clinch their fifth
league title.
But, after one of the closest series of matches in many years the
other Ross-shire club in the group, Tain, emerged with the League Targe for the
eighth time following a gap of 12 years.
Saturday's opening two matches, involving Invergordon and
Brora, set the scene for a thrilling weekend after 4-3 wins for each club
over Royal Dornoch and Golspie respectively, the hosts inspired by a winning 4 and 3 result from Steven Buchan against the Royal Dornoch and
Sutherland county champion,Chris Mailley.
In the afternoon Buchan was again instrumental in securing a 4-3 for his club after sharing a point with his old club mate Lyle McAlpine. This was one of the
best games of the weekend. Between them they exchanged 10 birdies, two from
Buchan in the closing three holes to escape with a half point after also
winning the final hole.
With the tie between Brora and Royal Dornoch shared at
3½pts each, Invergordon carried into
Sunday a narrow lead with 8pts, to Brora's 7½ , Dornoch 6½, Golspie 3 and
Tain 3 pts.
Sunday Morning's ties involved Golspie v Invergordon ,
result 3-4 and Tain v Brora, result 3½ each which meant Invergordon still held
the lead with 12 points, Brora 11, Tain 6 ½
Dornoch 6½ with Golspie 6 these three clubs each having played a game
less.
In the final ties on Sunday afternoon Invergordon had their
encounter with Brora as Golspie, Tain and Royal Dornoch featured in the three-
way game where 14 points where to available to keep all five clubs in the mix
for winning winning the league.
Leigh Simpson became the weekend's top points earner
with three and a half points for his Invergordon club after a 7 and 6 win over the Brora Secretary, Tony Gill, enabled Invergordon to climb to 15
pts alongside the holders who won the tie 4-3 with wins for the Brora
quartet of James MacBeath, Roddie Cameron, Marc Lowell and Alister Fraser
All attention now turned to the triple encounter. David
Pearson (Dornoch) and Ross I MacKenzie (Tain) each took their individual win
totals to three as they crushed their Tain and Golspie opposites in the three-ball and Dornoch beat Golspie 6-1 and Tain 5-2
for Tain to overtake Brora and Invergordon and lift the Dornoch Firth
Targe with 17½pts.
Invergordon and Brora totalled 15pts Royal Dornoch 14½ and
Golspie at the foot with 8pts.
Next year's league matches will be played at Royal Dornoch
and the subsequent rota will be - 2017
Golspie, 2018 Tain, and 2019 Brora.
