Scottish Junior Tour winter season finale

Here are the results from the Scottish Junior Golf Tour event at Dalmahoy yesterday on the West course. Thankfully the rain went off just before we started helping to make it a great day
This was the finale of our winter season and the format was 9:9ParGolf where only the best 9 holes count. The boys were joined in the competition by a number of parents who got a bit of the SJGT experience first-hand.

To add to the fun we included a better-ball team competition in addition to the individual and skills competitions.

 

The scoring was excellent and four of the boys shot four under par. Other good scores included Roddy McCauley’s 3 under in the U14’s and Cameron Johnstone’s 2 under in the U12’s. Gary Murphy had the best score from the parents with 5 under par.

 

Thanks to our resident coach at Dalmahoy, Scott Dixon, for showing us his fun trick show before the prize-giving.

The team event was won by Aidan Husenne, Connor McKinney and Aran Sinclair with a 9 under par gross 59.

 

The handicap team event was won by Callum Waugh and Simon & Toby Appleyard with nett 48 (20 under par!)

 

Congratulations to Will Porter our 2014 Champion in winning the Scottish Boys at Dunbar in some style. And I had a bet on him to win.

Luke Johnson does the double in Berkhamsted Trophy England international Luke Johnson has become only the second player to successfully defend the Berkhamsted Trophy. He retained the trophy in difficult, blustery conditions with 36-hole total of level par, which gave him a one-shot win over a group of three other players. "It was great to win again because there was a little bit more pressure defending - and because I didn't feel I was in it! But I chipped in for birdie on the 12th and birdied 16 and 17 to win by one," said Johnson, from King’s Lynn in Norfolk. He opened with a two-over 73 and was four shots off the halfway pace, set in spectacular style by Simon Richardson of Spalding. He had a hole in one with his first shot of the competition and followed up with 17 straight pars. However, in the afternoon Johnson shot two-under 69, while Richardson slipped back with 74, finishing on one-over, alongside Taylor Carter (Rochford Hundred) 73 70; and David Corben (Hindhead) 72 71. Johnson, 22, a member of the England Golf men's squad, won in a play-off last year, having been eliminated in another play-off in 2013. The last time the trophy was won in successive years was 1978 and 79 when John Davies of Royal Mid Surrey did the double. Tee times for Saturday rounds in Battle Trophy over Crail GS's Craighead Links

The Battle Trophy is the "youngest" of all the 72-hole events on the SGU Order of Merit programme but it has not taken long to attract the best players in the country.
Says host Crail Golfing Society manager David Roy of the field for this coming week's tournament at the Craighead Links:
"We have definitely our best quality field so far, given that  we have Bradley Neil, Daniel Young, Jamie Savage, Jack McDonald, Graeme Robertson, Ewen Ferguson, Zander Culverwell and Nick Macandrew among the entrants.

"There  is a host of amateur champions, past winners and Scottish Squad members playing."
Ewen Ferguson, pictured, will be bidding for a unique hat-trick, having already won the Scottish Champion of Champions at Leven, followed by the Craigmillar Park Open on Sunday.

 Will Porter joins Angus boys squad at annual trials day at Monifieth
Angus county boys squad shared Will Porter's success in the Scottish boys championship at Monifieth links on Sunday in their annual team trials day. Will  joined his team mates for the afternoon round on the Medal course. In very difficult windy conditions, the boys played 36 hole scratch stableford.

Tiger Woods says "a bone popped out" on shot on 9th hole, but he was able to "put it back in"

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Just when you thought Tiger Woods was finally healthy, he ran into more trouble on the 9th hole of the Masters on Sunday. The good news is it wasn't his back. Or his knee. Or the other knee. 

Instead it appeared to be Woods' wrist that he injured when hitting a tree root with his second shot (Update: it appears it was not a root, but a particularly hard part of the ground). Upon impact, Woods immediately let go of his club, and started shaking his right wrist. While clearly aggravated the rest of the hole, Woods was able to get up and down for par, but bogeyed the 10th after spraying the tee shot way right.

 In his post-round interview with CBS's Bill Macatee, Woods said "a bone popped out" when he hit the shot on 9, but he was able "to put it back in."

Although he's been spared wrist problems as a pro, Woods did withdraw from the 2005 U.S. Open at Shinnecock after injuring his left wrist hitting out of heavy rough. 

At the time of the injury, Woods, who is playing with Rory McIlroy, was one over for the day and 12 shots behind leader Jordan Spieth. His injury was met with swift reaction on social media.
