 Brilliant Ferguson wins Champion of
Champions title by three shots

From Colin Farquharson
Bearsden's Ewen Ferguson, past British and Scottish boys golf champion, added another trophy to his collection with an impressive last day performance to win the Scottish Champion of Champions' title by three strokes with a professional class 72 hole total of 13 under par 271 today over the Leven links
Ferguson's rounds over the par-71 Fife lay-out were 67, 69, 69 and 66. Ewen is pictured below when he won the Scottish U18
boys championship

Runner-up was Perth's Daniel Young (Craigie Hill) who posted the clubhouse target of 274 after he took produced his Sunday best for closing rounds of 66 and 68.
Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm), who show the tournament low round of six-under of 65, which included eight birdies, in the third round, tied for third place on 276 with Walker Cup candidate Graham Robertson (Glenbervie) who had a hole in one at the ninth in his third-round 71.
Back to the brilliance of Ferguson for whom the sky's the limit if he keeps improving at his present rate.
Over the weekend the Bearsden boy had an eagle and 18 birdies.
He showed his top-drawer class with a purple patch of five-under-par for the four-hole span from the 10th to the 13th.
Ferguson birdied the 10th, birdied the 11th, had an eagle 3 at the long 12th, and birdied the 13th.
His win could have been by an even bigger margin as he had a rate bogey at the 15th and that birdie at the 13th was his last over the closing holes.
Daniel Young surged into contention with a double-eagle 66 in the morning third round. Young, in fact, topped the winner's glory run over the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th.
He birdied the 10th, and had eagles at both the long 12th and long 13th, capping that with a bitdie at the 14th - six under par for four straight holes in his third round.
Young also had an eagle at the 13th in his first round.
David Mitchell, jun (Leven Thistle), was the local hero, leading the star-studded field through the first 54 holes before sagging to a final placing of joint sixth after a closing five-over 76 which included 40 blows for the inward half
