McLEARY WINS £1,250 FOR THIRD PLACE FINISH ON ALGARVE
Jamie McLeary won £1,250 for a third place finish today in the latest Algarve Pro Tour event, over 36 holes at Castro Marim on the eastern border with Spain.
McLeary had rounds of 67 and 68 for 135, a shot behind England's Marcus Armitage (65-69) and Portuguese amateur Joao Ramos (69-65).
As Ramos is an amateur, the first pro prize of £2,000 went to Armitage and the second pro prize of £1,250 went to McLeary
Duncan Stewart produced the best score by anyone - a six-under 66 - in the final round and that enabled him to finish joint fifth on 139 and receive a payslip for £700.
Jay Taylor, the third Scot in the field, shot 70-71 for 141 and a T12 finish which earned him £150.

CRAIG LEE'S 66 PUTS HIM IN
SIX-WAY TIE FOR LEAD
Stirling's Craig Lee shot a third-round 66 to figure in an amazing six-way tie for the lead on nine-under-par 201 in the Tshawne Open at Pretoria Country Club, South Africa today.
Lee came to the fore as a junior, winning the Scottish boys' open amateur stroke-play at Arbroath in 1995. Five years later, having turned pro in 1996, Craig won the Scottish Young Professionals' title
Local favourite George Coetzee is also there for what promises to be an exciting
final round on Sunday.
Coetzee, whose interest in golf started when he won a junior event as a
ten year old at this week’s venue shot a third
round 68 to join fellow South Africans Wallie Coetsee and Trevor Fisher
Jnr, England’s David Horsey, Spain’s overnight
leader Adrian Otaegui and Craig 201 with a lead of one shot.
Lee, who will be 38 in May, carded a four under par 66, the joint
lowest round of the day, to set the clubhouse target on nine under par
and looked on as none of the later starters was able to overhaul him.
“I’m delighted,” said the Scot, who is chasing a maiden European Tour title
after twice having been a runner-up.
“It’s one of those courses where
you can go quite low as guys have done, but it doesn’t take much to be
offline and then you really get punished around here.

DAVID LAW SHOOTS 66 TO TIE WITH
PAUL LAWRIE AT PENINA
Northern
Open champion David Law shot the tournament low score of
seven-under-par 66 to tie with the host for first place in the final
totals at the Paul Lawrie Foundation Pro Series over the Henry Cotton
Championship Course at Penina Hotel and Golf Resort, Portimao on the
Algarve, writes Colin Farquharson
In warm weather - up in the 20s/70s with little or no wind,
Law, pictured, produced a blistering final round with nine birdies - the first, second,
third, fifth, seventh, 10th, 15th, 17th and 18th. His only bad hole was
the 13th which cost him a three-putt double bogey.
His 54-hole aggregate of eight-under-par 211 matched that of Paul Lawrie who had rounds of 68, 70 and 73.
For
the second day in a row, Paul had a 7 on his card. In the third
round it came at the 14th after his ball hit a tree and went out of
bounds.
With a bus booked to take the party to Faro Airport for the flight home, there was no time to fit in a play-off between David Law and Paul Lawrie.
Braid Hills pro Paul McKechnie shot the final day's second-best round of four-under 69 to finish third on four-under-par 215.
Dunbar's Neil Fenwick, lying second overnight, slumped to a closing 79 to drop to eighth place in the final standings.
The top 10 received undisclosed prizemoney. Paul Lawrie's son Craig and Kris Nicol finished joint ninth so earned some money.
"The
event was a great chance to get together, play in a competitive
environment just prior to the season getting undeway and to work on
their games with the benefit of advice from some experienced
campaigners," said Michael MacDougall, the former Scottish PGA secretary
who is now manager of the Paul Lawrie Foundation.

NE Alliance Handicap Class 2 Order of Merit
BEN LUMSDEN IS ONLY DANGER TO A HAMISH
McNAUGHTON NUMBER ONE FINISH
CRUDEN BAY MAN HAS 175pt LEAD
WITH ONE EVENT TO GO
Only Northern's Ben Lumsden can dislodge Hamish McNaughton (Cruden Bay) from the No 1 position at the last counting event in the North-east Alliance Handicap Class 2 Order of Merit, sponsored by WLM Golf, writes Colin Farquharson
Hamish, pictured left, has 1650 points in the bank and Ben is lying second in the table with 1,475pt.
Only the top five (and ties) in the Handicap Class 2 returns at Craibstone next Wednesday will earn points - 1st 250; 2nd 200; 3rd 150; 4th 100; 5th 50.
So Lumsden, to close that 175pt gap, needs go finish first or second on his own in Class 2 on Wednesday with the proviso that McNaughton does not pick up any additional points.
There's a £50 amateur voucher donated by Willie McKenzie's WLM Golf company to the winner. No runner-up prize so it's all or nothing for Lumsden.
Neither made the Class 2 prizelist at the Duff House Royal fixture last Wednesday. If that situation is repeated come Wednesday, then
Hamish McNaughton will collect the prize.
Sandy Davidson (Northern) was "Climber of the Week" on the Class 2 table, improving his position by 13 rungs to No 23.
The Order of Merit prizes will be presented at Craibstone Golf Club's Brimmond Bistro within the clubhouse at the end of the championship second round next Wednesday.
