"IF I CAN HELP THEM (listeners), IT WILL HELP ME TOO"

JOHN DALY TO HOST NEW US RADIO

SHOW ON VARYING TOPICS

FROM GOLF.COM
 By Ryan Lavner
His playing career fading, John Daly will head behind the microphone for a new six-part series on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio.
The show, scheduled to debut in December, will be called “Hit It Hard with John Daly.”
Daly, now 48 and winless on the US PGA Tour since 2004, has dabbled in other off-the-course pursuits in recent years, from singing to course design to fashion (or whatever category Loudmouth falls under).
He is already encouraging potential listeners to weigh in on topics other than golf, including … relationships?
“I’ve been through pretty much everything a man can go through,” Daly told Golf.com. “If I can help them, it will help me too.”
His show will appear on XM channel 93, Sirius channel 208.

SCOTTISH GOLF TOURISM GALA NIGHT AT ST ANDREWS

The Kingsbarns behind-the-scenes team take a bow.

KINGSBARNS WINS 'SCOTLAND'S BEST

EXPERIENCE' AWARD

NEWS RELEASE
Kingsbarns Golf Links has won the prestigious accolade of ‘Scotland’s Best Golf Experience’ at the inaugural Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.
The Fife venue, which was recently confirmed as the host of the 2017 RICOH Women’s British Open, received the prize during a glittering bash at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews on Friday evening.
The award, voted for by Scottish golfers in an exclusive online poll, was one of 14 gongs handed out on the night, which celebrated the crème-de-la-crème of the Scottish golf tourism industry.
Collecting the award, Alan Hogg, the chief executive of Kingsbarns Golf Links, commented: “This is fantastic, I’m genuinely shocked. I have to say a massive thanks to everyone who voted for us and well done to all of my staff for all of their efforts. What we do isn’t rocket science: we just try to look after our customers to the very best of our abilities, so I’m very proud to accept this award on behalf of everybody at Kingsbarns Golf Links.”
The director of the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, Tom Lovering, added: “Kingsbarns Golf Links is a fully deserving winner of this lofty accolade. Having visited myself many times in the past, I can vouch for the quality it delivers across the board. From the customer service to the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the course and the superb catering, it epitomises everything that makes the experience of playing golf in Scotland not just good but truly great.”
Organised in conjunction with VisitScotland, bunkered magazine, the PGA in Scotland and the Scottish Golf Union, the evening was hosted by top broadcaster Alison Walker and was the culmination of a summer-long campaign which attracted over 21,000 votes.
As well as Kingsbarns’ victory in the top award on the night, another of the highlights was the Special Recognition Award handed out to Peter Lederer, the chairman of 2014 Ryder Cup host venue, Gleneagles Hotel. Europe’s victorious captain Paul McGinley and 18-time major winner Jack Nicklaus were amongst those to pay tribute to Lederer via video-link on the evening.
The ceremony brought the curtain down on what has been an unforgettable year for Scottish golf, highlighted by the hugely successful return of the Ryder Cup to Scotland in September – the first time that the match was contested in the game’s home country in over 40 years.
Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, said: “Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists at the inaugural Scottish Golf Tourism Awards. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout and the quality of golf businesses nominated is indicative of the wealth of world-class courses and accommodation providers we have here. I was also delighted to see a spread of winners from across the country, showing that wherever you go in Scotland, golf is at the heart of the tourism industry.
“We have our history to thank for our position as Scotland, the Home of Golf but it is the hard work and dedication of the entire golf tourism industry which helps to maintain this reputation across the world.
“There is no doubt that 2014 was a momentous year for golf tourism in Scotland but it is incumbent upon us all to continue that momentum and continue to welcome the world into 2015 and beyond.”

FOURTEEN SCOTS FALL AT STAGE 2 HURDLE

BOOTH, STEWART, KELLETT ONLY

SCOTS TO REACH  FINAL Q SCHOOL

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Only Comrie's Wallace Booth, Duncan Stewart (Grantown on Spey) and Motherwell man Ross Kellett (Kingsfield) of the 17 Scots entries have qualified for the European Tour Final Qualifying School over six rounds at PGA Catalunya, beginning on Saturday.
Only the leading 17 or 18 at each of the four Stage 2 venues in Spain qualified. Booth made it through in joint fifth place at El Saler with a six-under-par 282 total.
Kellett and Stewart tied for eighth place on the 16-under-par 272 mark at Panoramica.
Kellett's seven-under-par 65 was the best last-day round by a Scot - and it enabled him to improve from joint 21st overnight into the qualifying zone.
In contrast, Dunbar's Neil Fenwick, within the qualifying zone at the start of the day at Lumine, shot a two-under-par 70 in the last round but that did not stop him slipping down to joint 25th alongside George Murray on six-under 278.
Other non-qualifying Scots included Scottish amateur champion Chris Robb (Meldrum House), Northern Open champion David Law (Paul Lawrie GC), the Saltman brothers, Elliot and Lloyd, from Archerfield, and Jack Doherty, Jamie McLeary, Scott Borrowman, Scott Drummond, Raymond Russell, Alexander Culverwell and Paul Shields.
The leading 25 and ties at the end of the six-day Final Q School endurance test will gain playing rights on the 2015 Euroepan Tour.

PLAY-OFFS PROVIDE THE REAL DRAMA

OF Q SCHOOL STAGE 2 FINAL ROUND
FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Chris Paisley won his Second Stage event of The European Tour Qualifying School at Las Colinas Golf and Country Club with a five under par last-day round of 66, which took the Englishman to 17 under in total.
At this Spanish venue, 18 players progressed to the Final Q School.
Those 18 spaces where hotly contested and a four man play-off ensued for the remaining three spots when Englishman Matthew Cort, Dane Christian Gloet, Australian Geoffrey Drakeford and German Sebastian Heisele all finished in tied 16th position on seven under par.
Heisele and Gloet progressed in 16th and 17th place respectively, birdieing the second and third play-off holes, while it was Cort who missed out as Drakeford birdied the fourth play-off hole, capturing the last qualifying spot in the process.
In the corresponding event at Panoramica Golf and Sport Resort, Englishman Matthew Southgate leapfrogged his compatriot Toby Tree with a five under par 65 to steal first place on 22 under par. However, again the real drama unfolded lower down the leaderboard on 13 under par as a sudden death six-man playoff ensued for the remaining spaces.
After a tense battle, it was South African amateur Zander Lombard who took the 15th spot and Dane Jeff Winther the 16th. Gary Lockerbie then proceeded to hold his nerve to take the 17th place with a par three on the fifth play-off hole.
Elsewhere, Welshman Gary Houston stole the show at Campo de Golf El Saler, firing a seven-under 65 to win the event.
But as with the other events, the real action came at the cut off for progression; Dane Daniel Løkke and Englishman Chris Lloyd hung on to take two of the last three qualifying places, where they were joined by Norwegian Espen Kofstad, who leaped up four positions to snatch qualification on two under par.
Meanwhile, at Lumine Golf and Beach Club, Portuguese whiz Ricardo Gouveia completed his qualifying campaign with a rock steady level par 71  to stay at 18 under and advance in the  pole position.
A quartet of four players, consisting of France’s Guillaume Cambis, Englishmen Garrick Porteous and Nathan Kimsey and American Wes Homan, all shared the last progression spaces at nine under par.
Across the four venues, a total of 69 players qualified to the six-day Final Stage which takes place at  PGA Catalunya Resort in north-east Spain  where the top 25 players plus ties will earn their playing rights for The 2015 Race to Dubai.

Club Professional Mark Pirie, Neil Panton, 4 year old member Daniel Kearney and Club captain Ron Bell watch John Swinney MSP tee off at the opening of the Academy in May.

Pitlochry Golf Academy Reports New Dawn

for Young Players

NEWS RELEASE

Pitlochry Golf Club is celebrating a watershed year for its young players, with officials believing the new Golf Academy will produce even more in future.
The course has just undergone its biggest ever development with a six-figure investment giving it the best facilities in Highland Perthshire.
Now the state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence, opened in May by John Swinney MSP, has borne its first fruit.
Part of the supporting finance from Sportscotland was predicated on the club’s ambitious annual targets for developing elite youngsters.
At the inaugural Perth and Kinross County ‘Race to Kingsbarns’, Pitlochry boasted a quarter of all the junior boys qualifiers, with three in the top five, including overall winner, Stewart Burns.
Grant Stewart, the reigning county boys' stroke-play champion, was fourth at Kingsbarns, with John Cowan finishing fifth.
Both Burns and Cowan have also represented the Perthshire at U-16 level.
Furthermore, since elements of the Academy have come on-line, the club has also secured both the boys' and men's county championship titles.
Officials believe that the investment made will one day help Pitlochry produce international players, justifying their decision to build.
Club Captain Ron Bell said: “Our junior section is actually relatively small so it is great what we have achieved this year at the top level.
“Because we have the new facility and the fact we had some surplus funds, we were able to offer juniors extra winter coaching, including video analysis, and the players were well prepared before the season started.
“With the Academy on board, I believe we will go from strength to strength now. We have a  generation of young ones coming up behind these players and they will benefit from this group’s success.
“Stewart Burns, for example, only joined because his first club didn’t have an active junior section.  In his first full season of training and playing here, his handicap dropped dramatically and the hope is that he will go to the next level, perhaps with the Scottish elite squads or whatever.”
Race to Kingsbarns Tournament Director, Douglas Cleeton, praised Burns for his performance in winning the tournament.
The player also plays at Blair Atholl and was their men's club Champion.
“Like all those who took part, Stewart remained committed throughout. He worked hard at the Pitlochry facility to improve and develop over the year and his achievement was utterly commendable.”
Pitlochry Golf Club’s new facility includes a driving range with six indoor and five outdoor bays.
Teaching bays, a short-game practice area and the new six-hole Lettoch Links course means junior players can practise all aspects of the game, all year round.

Additional Information

Pitlochry Golf Course was designed by famous golf architect of the day, Willie Fernie of Troon, in 1908 and opened in 1909.
Famous names to play the course have been Harry Vardon, Walter Hagen, Max Faulkner, Bob Charles and John Panton.
The course sits amid spectacular highland Perthshire scenery, with excellent views over the Tummel Valley, Craigower and Ben Y Vrackie.
Part of the course lies on a site of historic interest, with the outline of an ancient Pictish fort clearly visible.
There is an abundance of roe deer, otters and birdlife nearby and the picturesque town of Pitlochry was once described as the ‘Switzerland of Scotland.’
Pitlochry Golf Estate provides luxury 4-Star self-catering accommodation at Drumchorry Cottage and Upper Balghulan.
