LLOYD SALTMAN WINS BY ONE WITH 

5-UNDER  67 AT DUDDINGSTON

On outing number four of the season a total of 99 Edinburgh and East Alliance members headed to the City to play on a very well presented Duddingston course which stood up extremely well despite the monsoon thrown at the region on Monday and Tuesday. 

It was yet another fine day in terms of weather and some fine scoring on the par 72 course.

The Bootland Trophy up for play saw a Saltman family name on it. Elliot winning trophies at outing numbers 1 and 2 is now matched by brother Lloyd who has won trophies numbers 3 and 4.

Lloyd secured the trophy and the best scratch score of the day with a 5 under par 67 (35-32)

Hot on his heels were The Renaissance Club duo of Neil Henderson and Jamie Fraser, both on 68 to share second scratch prize.

On the Handicap front while the top prize was shared on net 70 by Ross Boyle (Ratho Park) (73 less 3) and Alan Stronach (Falkirk Tryst) (84 less 14) it should be noted while Ross will be disappointed in dropping five shots over the last four holes after covering the outward nine in a fantastic, four-under-par 33.

Third handicap prize was shared  on 71 by Robin Cockburn (Harburn) (76 less 5) and Alan Devlin (Pumpherston) (85 less 14).

Duddingston's Hinton Bootland won the top Senior Prize with a sound 72 (80 less 8).

Top Trainee Prize went to Cameron Marr (Musselburgh) on 72.

TOM BUCHANAN LEADING SCOT IN FIFTH PLACE

ZANE SCOTLAND BEATS JOSH WHITE 

TO WIN MENA TOUR $9,000 PLAY-OFF

Zane Scotland beat Joshua White in an all-England play-off climax to this week's MENA Tour event, the Golf Citizen Masters at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates.

They had tied with 54-hole aggregates of 14-under-par 199. Scotland shot 69, 64 and 66 to White's course record 62, 67 and 70.

Zane won the sudden-death play-off to earn US $9,000. White's runner-up prize amounted to US $6,000.
Spain's Jose Bondia Gil finished third, a shot behind the play-off participants, and earned US $4,000.

Former Duddingston assistant pro Tom Buchanan, who is now based at the Al Ain venue, finished fifth on 203 with rounds of 67, 65 and 71. He earned US $2,564

Paul Doherty tied for 10th place on 209 with rounds of 66, 71 and 72.

Sam Kiloh, the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre rookie, finished joint 38th on 219 with scores of 74, 72 and 73.

Clarke Lutton shot 77, 73 and 76 for 226 and a share of 46th place.

Paul Lawrie has a 100 per cent success rate through two outings on the North-east Golfers' Alliance circuit this season. A winner at Newmachar in late September, he reappeared at Peterculter Golf Club today - not all that far away from his Bieldside house, to the west of Aberdeen - and headed a field of 100 with a four-under-par 67 to win the £150 first prize.

It was a Lawrie family 1-2 finish on bright, sunny day when the start was delayed one hour due to frost. Craig Lawrie, Paul's elder son, filled second place, one shot behind his dad on 68.

But for a double bogey 7 Craig would have beaten his old man. As it is Lawrie junior won the £120 runner-up prize.

Local member Tony Robertson, a reinstated amateur, finished third with a 69, highlighted by an eagle 2 at the 395yd par-4 fourth hole.

Paul Lawrie, who cut his competitive teeth on the NE Alliance circuit as an assistant pro at Banchory, had six birdies - the fifth, sixth, seventh, 12th, 14th and 17th in halves of 33 (three under) and 34 (one under).

His two bogeys came over the closing holes, at the 13th and 16th.

Craig Lawrie made up for his 7 at the seventh with birdies at the sixth, ninth, 12th, 16th and 17th in halves of 36 (level par) and 32 (three under).

        "No returns" ran into double figures again, most of them in the closing stages when the hour-delay at the start of competition because of frost meant the   tail-enders finished in near-darkness. 
         Many of the field of 100 thought the condition of the Peterculter course was excellent and the putting surfaces tip-top as well.
         One player told me: "The Peterculter course has matured extremely well. I did not play very well but I still enjoyed this lay-out on the banks of the River Dee much more than I thought I would. "

EUROPRO TOUR SEASON FINALE IN EGYPT

Elliot Saltman, pictured today, leads the Visit Egypt Tour Championship by one stroke on five under par after the opening round of the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour season finale at El Gouna Golf Club in Egypt's Red Sea resort of El Gouna.

The Scot shot a 67 on day one and is one clear of the six golfers tied for second on four under. With a £15,000 top prize from the £60,000 prize fund, the winner will add crucial money to their Race To El Gouna standings. 

The top five not otherwise exempt on the Race To El Gouna at the end of the event will earn a Challenge Tour card for 2015.

Peter Tarver-Jones currently lies second on the Race To El Gouna and is one of the six tied second on four under. James Robinson also carded a first-round 68 and with William Harrold now out of the Race To El Gouna having made one start short of the required five, Robinson moves from sixth to fifth place. 

A strong finish this week will should see him secure his Challenge Tour card for 2015.

Sixth place may be enough with Race To El Gouna leader Jack Senior likely to earn an exemption through his performance on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit. Alex Belt, Nick McCarthy, James Frazer and Paul Shields are also four under and each could earn a promotion to Europe’s second-tier tour if they perform well this week.

Leader Saltman said: “I started off well with birdie, birdie which was nice. I then birdied the sixth – a par four which you can get quite close to. I managed to birdie nine with driver, three-wood so I turned four under.

“I bogeyed ten with a three putt but kept my wits about me and managed to birdie the par five at 13. I birdied the last as well and it was nice to finish with a birdie and get to five under.

“It is a great golf course, really, really good. It is a really good test. I have been playing really well the last three or four weeks back home trying to prepare for this.

"It is a nice place to come. It is the first time I have ever been to Egypt and it is nice to come here and the course is in great condition.”

The Visit Egypt Tour Championship is a 54-hole stroke-play event, with the final round taking place on Friday. 

Only the top 60 on the Race To El Gouna after the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour’s 16 regular-season events were invited. 

A two-hour highlights package of the event will be broadcast on Sky Sports HD on Tuesday, November 11.

INDIA MASTERS' OPENING-ROUND REPORT, SCORES

Bengaluru, India: India’s S. Chikka took advantage of his home course knowledge by firing a flawless eight-under-par 64 to grab the opening honours at the inaugural TAKE Solutions India Masters on Wednesday.

Thailand’s Pijit Petchkasem stayed in touch with Chikka by mixing his card with nine birdies against a double-bogey six to take second place while India’s Abhishek JHA was a further shot back in third place after he signed for a 66 at the Eagleton Golf Resort in Bengaluru.

Ireland’s Niall Turner, who is part of the international cast of players to take their place at the first Asian Development Tour (ADT) event to be held in India, carded a 67 to share fourth place with three others at the US$70,000 event.

After returning from Macau where he missed the cut last week, Chikka’s opening day’s effort brought back the smiles for the Indian.

Chikka, however believes it is still early days and knows he has to continue to step up his game in order to compete with the region’s best players.

“This week is a good opportunity for me to get my game back onto the next level as it’s an ADT event. I’ve played in three events on the Asian Tour this year and have only made the cut once.

"It’s a totally different level of competition on the Asian Tour but thankfully we have events like this on the ADT to develop ourselves into better players,” said Chikka.

Meanwhile Turner, who is chasing his second ADT win at the TAKE Solutions India Masters this week, stumbled early with a bogey-five on the second hole but redeemed himself quickly with a birdie on seven before going on to post an eagle-three on 10 and further birdies on 11, 15 and 17.

The 31-year-old has already notched up one ADT win and four top-10s this season.

Ranked third on the ADT money list, the Irishman is also within sights of earning his place on the Asian Tour next season as only the top-five finishers on the Order of Merit will earn their coveted Asian Tour cards for 2015.

“I’m almost there. (Getting his Asian Tour card) If I can maintain the consistency that I’ve shown throughout the year, I should be fine.

"It’s a privilege to be able to play in this inaugural ADT event in India and it’s definitely a sign that the ADT is growing from strength to strength,” said Turner.
