RORY McILROY EARLY DOUBLE BOGEY KILLS HIS VICTORY CHANCE

Horschel wins $11,500,000 jackpot prize

at Tour Championship - and he's not in

Tom Watson's team for Gleneagles!

Billy Horschel stared down the No. 1 player in the world, holed a clutch par putt on 16 and walked away with the biggest prize - around $11.5million - in golf at the Tour Championship. Here’s the skinny on the final round at East Lake, Atlanta:
Leaderboard: Billy Horschel (-11); Jim Furyk and Rory McIlroy at -8; Chris Kirk, Justin Rose and Jason Day at –7

What it means: With back-to-back play-off titles (and a share of second place at the Deutsche Bank), Horschel won not only the $10 million FedEx Cup but also the $1.44 million first-place pay cheque at the Tour Championship.
Prior to this week, he had less than $8 million in career earnings. Given the way both Horschel and Chris Kirk closed out the season,  it’s easy to imagine Tom Watson with his head in his hands, wondering where this kind of form was a few weeks ago when he made his Ryder Cup picks.
Round of the day: Tied with McIlroy at the start of the day, Horschel made birdie on Nos. 4 and 5 to take the outright lead, but was tied with Furyk on the 15th tee. The former Florida product made birdie on the par 5, then made a clutch par on 16 and easy two-putt par on 17.
On the last, the long par 3, Horschel hit his tee shot to 30 feet and made a stress-free par. He shot 68, his 12th consecutive round in the 60s during these play-offs.
Best of the rest: During a year of close calls, Furyk had yet another one here. In a position to apply pressure on Horschel, Furyk instead made a sloppy bogey from short of the 17th green, then couldn’t convert his 5-foot par putt on 18. His 69 dropped him into a share of second place, his fourth runner-up this season.
Biggest disappointment: With fans dreaming of a Horschel-McIlroy duel, the world No. 1 didn’t hold up his end of the bargain, making double bogey on No. 6, then making three bogeys in a row around the turn.
Three consecutive birdies late gave McIlroy a share of second and third-place finish in the FedEx Cup.
Shot of the day: Facing a 30-footer for par after having to pitch out on the par-4 16th, Horschel rammed home the putt that kept him one shot clear of Furyk. Up ahead on the next green, Furyk left his approach short and missed a 6-footer for par.

ROBERTSON, MOORE AND JOHNSTON TEAM WINNERS AT LUNDIN

Glenbervie retain TSG Scottish club title and Glenn Campbell has a hole in one

Glenbervie held off the challenge of Blairgowrie, including a hole in one from Glenn Campbell, to retain the TSG Scottish Club Championship crown at Lundin today.
Graham Robertson, this year’s Fairstone Scottish Amateur Championship runner-up, Fraser Moore and Richard Johnston retained the title over the Fife links, thanks to a two-under-par winning total, achieved in windier conditions in the afternoon.
Glenbervie now go forward to the European Club final in Bulgaria from October 23 to 25 at Pravets GC.
Over two rounds of stroke play, with the two lowest scores from each round counting towards each team’s aggregate score, winning GB and I St Andrews Trophy team member Robertson was the hero with rounds of 67 and 71.
Moore added rounds of 73 and 71 to see the Stirlingshire side home, finishing the only team under par for a two-stroke win over Blairgowrie.
Glenn Campbell

Moore has now tasted back-to-back triumphs, after he was a member of the winning team at Luffness New 12 months ago, joining Colin Mundie and Mark Hislop to secure a one-shot win over Craigie Hill and Southerness.
Glenbervie had it far from their own way, though, after former Scottish Amateur champion Campbell opened with a 66 including a superb ace at the 141-yard 5th hole. Campbell, however, took eight strokes more in round two, as the Perthshire side, the 2012 champions, settled for the runners-up spot.
Prestwick and Longniddry shared a distant third place on eight over par, with Ralston fifth on nine over.
Each of the 16 Area Associations of the Scottish Golf Union held a qualifying process to determine their leading club, with 48 players lining up at Lundin to contest the title.

MACALLAN NORTH DISTRICT OVER-55s CHAMPIONSHIP

BUNKER BEATS NICHOLSON IN TWO-

HOLE PLAY-OFF FOR SENIORS TITLE

By ROBIN WILSON

The Macallan North District Senior Golf Championship was hosted on the Boat of Garten golf course for the first time and won for a first time by Nairn Dunbar's 66-year-old David Bunker after a play off with Bert Nicholson of Muir of Ord.
After a succession of near-misses in recent years it was a long-time goal of Bunker to get his name on to the Macallan Trophy as the winner in the first two years of the championship, 1983 and 1984, was his  uncle, John Duggie, also of Nairn Dunbar.
While most of the North's coastal links courses were shrouded in a sea harr the highly acclaimed Boat of Garten enjoyed  a clear and sunny sky to enable both Bunker and Nicholson to post cards of 73. Bunker halves of 36 and 37, and Nicholson, 37 and 36, against the par of 70.
Nicholson might have won at the first attempt but he bogeyed the final hole and the same hole would  again haunt him in the play off.
The first and final holes were used  for the play-off and at the par three first although missing the green Bunker made his par three with an eight foot putt while Nicholson three putted from the fringe, missing a four foot par attempt.
They both came up short of the 426yd 18th hole in two shots, Nicholson rather unfortunate in having to have one foot in a bunker to play his pitch which gave him little hope of saving his par while Bunker easily made his bogey five to win.

Inverness's Laurie Chancellor was a shot short of the play-off while the scratch winners of the age categories were Catgory A -  76 Graham Tregaskis (Boat of Garten). Category B – 75  Fraser Sharp (Boat of Garten).  Category C – 77 John Thomson (Inverness).
