EUROPEAN C HALLENGE TOUR REPORT AND SCORES

ANDREW McARTHUR FINISHES

 SECOND IN BRITTANY

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
An incredible start to his final round effectively sealed Benjamin Hebert’s second challenge Tour title of the year and a return to The European Tour at the Open Blue Green Cotes d`Armor Bretagne.
The Frenchman exploded out of the blocks with four birdies in his opening five holes as many of his fellow-contenders faltered at the same time to hand the 27 year old an early five stroke lead that he never looked likely to relinquish as he strolled to a three-stroke victory stroll at the Golf Blue Green de Pléneuf Val André.
Given the intense level of competition on the Challenge Tour, Hebert’s win was a rare victory march which the man himself enjoyed very much in front of a delighted home crowd as he carded a final round 66 for a 15 under total and a three shot win over Andrew McArthur.
Hebert’s victory, and first prize of €32,000 propelled him to third in the Challenge Tour Rankings with total earnings of €104,869, guaranteeing him a return to The European Tour next year as one of this season’s top 15 Challenge Tour stars.
“It’s very exciting to be back on The European Tour,” said Hebert. “It feels great but for the moment I want to enjoy the victory here today because to win in France, in front of a great crowd was a very special moment for me.
“I played very well today and could not have made a better start to the final round with three birdies in the first three holes – it was a perfect way to begin the day.
“I wasn’t being really aggressive or anything like that, I just hit a lot of good shots and took the chances when they came. I am very happy with how the day went obviously – it feels great.”
McArthur’s secured second spot at Golf Blue Green de Pléneuf Val André did the Scot’s own bid for a return to The European Tour no harm as he moves up to 13th in the Rankings with his €22,000 cheque for second spot.
“Obviously it’s not the result I was looking for at the start of the day but Benjamin played very well today and thoroughly deserved his victory,” said McArthur. “If you can’t win then second on your
own isn’t bad and it’s a nice bonus to move up the Rankings a bit before the big tournaments at the end of the season.”

ANOTHER HOLE IN ONE AT EUROPEAN MASTERS

 AMERICAN LIPSKY BEATS STORM IN

SWITZERLAND PLAY-OFF
FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
David Lipsky earned his first European Tour win by beating Graeme Storm in the first hole of a play-off at the Omega European Masters.
Playing the last again, the 26-year-old from Los Angeles stayed safe for a par four while overnight leader Storm was unable to recover from a wayward tee shot that missed the fairway and came to rest against a wall.
Storm, 36, whose sole European Tour triumph was in 2007 at Open de France ALSTOM, had no option but to chip out on to the fairway.
However, Lipsky, who had just 86 yards to the hole with his second shot, took no risks by laying up short of the green.
His decision proved justified when he chipped close to the hole and, after Storm had made a five, was left with a simple putt for victory on another stunning day at the scenic Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club.
Englishman Storm, on 16 under overnight, had already overcome pressure by parring the last to stay level on 18 under with Lipsky, who went round in a five under 65.
Lipsky, playing in the penultimate group, birdied the 18th with an approach to within inches of the hole.
That left Storm, who aced the par three 11th on Saturday, needing a three for victory but he played safe to set up the play-off.

Storm and Lipsky completed their 72 regular holes one shot ahead Brooks Koepka, who was tied for lh a 65.
The round of the day was Danny Willett’s 63, which left him on 16 under alongside Tommy Fleetwood.
Remarkably, there was a second hole in one of the weekend at the 11th as France’s Romain Wattel found the hole with his tee shot.
Storm had already won the prize of a BMW sports car but the manufacturer generously allowed Wattel to choose one of its cars from the tented village at the course to drive for a year.
Wattel, who went round in 65 to finish 13 under, said: “I saw the crowd were celebrating but I didn’t know if that was because it was close, or in the hole. Then I realised, but I didn’t know if there was a prize.
“Unfortunately it was one day too late! But I’m obviously still really pleased with it, and with my performance today.
“I played very well over the weekend, it was just a shame I took too long to get started on the first two days. But I’m still delighted.”
Lipsky nearly outdid Wattel at the 331yd par four seventh but his three-wood from the tee came up just short of the pin.
Aberdeen's Richie Ramsay finished eighth on 266 with a closing round of 68.

"GREATEST MODERN LINKS IN SCOTLAND"

GREIG HUTCHEON  SINGS PRAISES OF

CARNEGIE LINKS AT SKIBO CASTLE

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Nobody mentions Skibo Castle's Carnegie Links near Dornoch in the same breath as Castle Stuart, Kingsbarns and Archerfield.
That's because it is a very exclusive, very private members' club and course.
But the top man on the Tartan Tour, Greig Hutcheon, has been there several times - and he thinks it deserves to be ranked up there with best links courses in Scotland.
After playing in the recent Carnegie Invitational, in which he finished second to Stephen Gray, Hutcheon told Scottishgolfview.com:

"The 2 days at Skibo were just awesome for me. It's the greatest modern links in Scotland. And absolutely one of if not the finest venue in the world."

SCOT'S FOURTH WIN IN FIVE STARTS THIS SEASON

MOSCOW IS MONTY'S LATEST VICTORY

VENUE AS SENIOR

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Colin Montgomerie added a new chapter to a record-breaking season when he closed with a flawless seven under par 65 to win the Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) at Moscow Country Club today.
The Scot started the day two shots behind Tim Thelen but he overhauled his former Houston Baptist University team-mate with four consecutive birdies from the second and then bagged three more birdies coming home to finish the Championship three shots ahead of Canada’s Rick Gibson on 14 under par 202.
Gibson birdied the last to post a 67 and that was enough to see him finish a single shot ahead of Thelen, Barry Lane, Miguel Angel Martin and Andrew Oldcorn while Phil Golding closed with a five under par 67 to climb into a tie for seventh place alongside Steen Tinning on eight under par 208.
Montgomerie arrived in Moscow on a high, having led from start-to-finish at last week’s Travis Perkins Masters and he went on to claim his fourth victory in five starts on this year’s European Senior Tour with a fabulous performance that was reminiscent of the way he used to play when he was winning seven European Tour Order of Merit titles in the 1990s.
The win was worth €102,591 and it extending his record earnings to €607,476 for the season.
“I have had a lot of good runs of form over the years but I think this is right up there with the best of them.
“I think I’m playing as well as I have ever done right now. A year ago I said I wasn’t driving as well as I did when I was winning my Order of Merit titles but that’s not the case anymore.
“I hit 28 fairways out of 28 the last two days and you can’t do any better than that. I’m shorter now than I used to be but that’s the only difference. I’m playing as well through the green as I have ever done and I’m also holing out just like I did when I was younger.
“It was a lot of fun out there today. It was a dream start to my year with three wins in my first four starts on the European Senior Tour and now it has just got better.
“I have played well all week but the difference today was that I got off to a much better start. I was two behind Tim overnight but I put a bit of pressure on him with four birdies in the first five holes and then played solid golf after that.
“I finished fourth here last year so I was determined to do better than that,” he added. “It has been a great week. It’s a fantastic course and I’m already looking forward to coming back next year to defend.
“It was also great to play in the last group with Tim. We were room-mates at Houston Baptist University but I don’t think we have played golf together like that for about 28 years. It was super to compete with him again like we used to do at college.”

RUSSELL KNOX IS JT 53rd AFTER THIRD-ROUND 72

HORSCHEL GOES THREE CLEAR AS

RORY McILROY FOUR-PUTTS
FROM THE BELFAST TELEGRAPH
Billy Horschel will take a three-stroke lead into the final round of the BMW Championship after firing a flawless 63 on Saturday at the Denver, Colorado venue.
The American came into the day two shots behind leader Sergio Garcia and alongside world number one Rory McIlroy but the European duo endured disappointing third rounds.
Both men shot two-over par 72s with McIlroy incredibly four-putting from four feet on the 12th to record a triple-bogey 6 as he slipped nine shots behind the leader.
Horschel made things look much easier as he recorded seven birdies to move to 13 under, three shots ahead of fellow American Ryan Palmer who recorded a 67.
That left Palmer on course for the high finish he needs to move into the top 30 in the FedEx Cup rankings and play in next week's Tour Championship.
The top 30 in the FedEx Cup rankings after this weekend will go to Atlanta next week where the points will be reset so every player has a chance of claiming the 10million US dollar (£6.1million) bonus.
"It's going to be a fun day tomorrow," Horschel told Sky Sports 4. "Obviously having a chance to win a golf tournament on the PGA Tour, e specially during the FedEx Cup play-offs, can go a long way.
"We'll see what happens. If I can just keep doing what I'm doing and maybe I'll be holding a trophy on Sunday."
To do that, the 27-year-old will have to hold off a host of big names as he seeks his second PGA Tour win.
Masters champion Martin Kaymer and US Open champion Bubba Watson are both on eight under with Rickie Fowler a further shot back followed by Garcia.
Horschel birdied the first and the eighth in what was an unspectacular front nine but came to life after the turn picking up further shots on 10, 14, 15, 17 and 18.
McIlroy was still very much in the mix as he began his back nine just a shot adrift of Horschel but the triple on 12 saw him tumble down the leaderboard as he came home in 39.
Palmer recorded six birdies and three bogeys in an up and down 67 while Kaymer registered eight birdies and two dropped shots.
Watson was flawless in carding a 66 and Fowler dropped a single shot on his way to the same score.
United States Ryder Cup duo Jordan Spieth and Jim Furyk were on five under alongside Canadian Graham DeLaet with McIlroy in the group a further shot back.
Also in that group was Morgan Hoffmann who recorded the round of the week so far with a 62.
Starting on the 10th, Hoffman birdied his first three holes and picked up further strokes on 16, 17 and 18. Birdies on one and three raised hopes of a 59 but a bogey on the sixth ended those hopes, although another shot was picked up on seven.
Keegan Bradley will be watching Sunday's action closely after withdrawing from the tournament due to a possible rules violation on the opening day.
Depending on how others in the field play, Bradley could drop out of the top 30 and miss next week's tournament in Georgia.
One man who definitely will not be there is Phil Mickelson who also withdrew from the BMW Championship to focus his attentions on the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
Justin Rose in T29 on 210 after scores of 69, 71 and 70.
Graeme McDowell in T49 on 214 (73-72-69)
Russell Knox is T53 on 215 (74-69-72)

TOLEDO, FAXON SHARE QUEBEC LEAD

CBSSports.com wire reports

QUEBEC CITY -- Defending champion Esteban Toledo shot a 6-under 66 on Saturday for a share of the second-round lead with Brad Faxon in the Champions Tour's Quebec Championship.
The 51-year-old Toledo, the only Mexican winner in the history of the 50s-and-over tour, matched Faxon at 10-under 134 at La Tempete in the first US PGA Tour-sanctioned event in the area since 1956. Toledo won the then-Montreal Championship last year at La Vallee du Richelieu for his second Champions Tour victory.

''I went out there on the golf course today and enjoyed myself,'' Toledo said. ''That's pretty much what I did. ... I hit it great. Hit a lot of fairways, hit a lot of greens, I putted well and it seems like when I putt well, I get a lot of confidence.''
Faxon, also a two-time senior winner, had a 67.
''It was a good solid round of golf today,'' said Faxon, an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour. ''I laughed at myself because I started thinking about how my rounds are usually miss the fairway, miss the green, chip it up, make a par, and this was on the fairway, on the green, make a putt and it was a nice round.
''Then when I started thinking about that, I hit a bad shot on 16 and made a bogey and then three-putted 17. But the birdie on 18 was a great birdie to make finishing in the dark, in the cold.''
Loren Roberts was third at 8 under after a 69. Jay Haas, Scott Simpson, Wes Short Jr. and Duffy Waldorf were 7 under. Simpson and Short shot 68, Haas had a 69, and Waldorf a 71.
Two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen, making his Champions Tour debut, was tied for seventh at 6 under after a 67. He turned 50 last week.
First-round leader Chip Beck followed his opening 65 with a 75 to drop into a tie for 23rd at 4 under.
