SKIPPER STUART WILSON ANNOUNCES TEAM IN HAMBURG

         BRADLEY NEIL ONLY SCOT IN
         EUROPE JUNIOR RYDER CUP
         TEAM FOR BLAIRGOWRIE

NEWS RELEASE
The European team for the Junior Ryder Cup was announced today as captain Stuart Wilson revealed the names of the 12 Under-18 European amateur stars to take on the USA at Blairgowrie Golf Club on September 22-23.
There is only one Scot chosen - British amateur champion Bradley Neil who will be playing over his home course - and one English representative, Curtis Cup player Annabel Dimmock (Wentworth).
The European team is:

Mathilda Cappeliez (France)
Alexandra Försterling (Germany)
Virginia Carta (Italy)
Annabel Dimmock (England)

Emily Pedersen (Denmark)
Linea Strom (Sweden)
John Axelsen (Denmark)
Max Schmitt (Germany)
Ivan Cantero (Spain)
Marcus Kinhult (Sweden)
Bradley Neil (Scotland)
Renato Paratore (Italy)

Wilson announced his selection at the conclusion of the European Golf Association’s European Young Masters at Hamburger Golf Club in Germany, with the team comprised of four boys under the age of 18, four girls under the age of 18 as well as two under-16 boys and two under-16 girls.
British amateur champion Bradley Neil will lead the line for the European team after the young Scot was the first name to be announced, in what is a huge boost for the event which takes place at his home club in the Perthshire town of Blairgowrie.
The 18 year old, who last month became the first Scot to win the Amateur championship since team skipper Wilson himself claimed the title in 2004, will be joined in the team by the British women's open amateur championship winner at Royal St George's GC, Denmark’s Emily Pedersen.
Pedersen plays in her second successive Junior Ryder Cup, having represented Europe at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois, where the USA retained the title with a 14½-9½ victory.
Another player returning to the Junior Ryder Cup fold is promising young Italian Renato Paratore, who has been making a name for himself on The European Tour in 2014.
A close friend of Matteo Manassero, Paratore created a stir at least year’s Italian Open when he made the cut, while he continued to defy his amateur status by making it to the weekend at the Open de España last May.
The 17 year old also continued his progress in the non-paid ranks with victory at this year’s Portuguese Amateur Championship followed by the Italian amateur stroke play championship.
Linnea Strom is the third and final player making a second appearance at the Junior Ryder Cup, having earned her place as a 16 year old at the 2012 edition
She continues to show signs of being a star in the making, this year, winning the Spanish Ladies Amateur in March while last year making the cut at the Ladies European Tour’s Helsingborg Open.
Markus Kinhult is another future star who has been turning heads at the highest levels of the professional game, having followed up top five finishes at the Portuguese Amateur Championship and the Lytham Trophy with a tied 21st place finish at the Nordea Masters on The European Tour.
Ivan Cantero was also selected after an extremely consistent season in which he won the strokeplay qualifier for the European Boys’ Team Championship before helping Spain to a fifth place finish, while also earning top five finishes at the Spanish Amateur Championship and the Portuguese Amateur Championship.
The other two to make up the under-18 girls are German Girls Open Champion Virginia Elena Carta of Italy and 2014 Curtis Cup player and recently-crowned Helen Holm Scottish Open Strokeplay Champion Annabel Dimmock of England.
Germany had a great week in Hamburg having both winners of the European Young Masters who earned their place on the team, making up two of the four under-16 players to represent Europe in September, with Alexandra Försterling triumphing in the girls’ tournament and Max Schmitt winning the boys’.
Danish International Strokeplay and English U16 (McGregor Trophy) champion John Axelsen of Denmark was the other boy to make it as one of the under 16 selections while France’s Mathilda Cappeliez, who finished as the highest amateur at this year’s Turkish Airlines Open on the Ladies European Tour at the age of 15, was the other under-16 girl to be chosen.
Junior Ryder Cup Captain, Stuart Wilson said: “It is fantastic to have both Men's and women's (British) Amateur Champions playing along with other in-form players that have been collecting experience at the highest level in both the amateur and professional ranks.
“Although they all have match play experience it is nice having returning players to the team.  Having personally experienced the Junior Ryder Cup in Chicago two years ago I know that they will have an unforgettable week made up with great golf, lots of memories and new friendships. Hopefully their selection will be a stepping stone to further success in their golfing careers.”
The Junior Ryder Cup is a biennial contest between Europe and America, and the teams consist of boys and girls under the age of 18. The USA retained the trophy in 2012, winning at Olympia Fields in Chicago, and the Americans are aiming for four wins in a row this year.
Fredrik Lindgren, Director of The Junior Ryder Cup, added: “The Junior Ryder Cup is always a thrilling event which showcases some of the best up and coming international talent. It is a fantastic way to get involved in the whole ethos of sporting excellence and camaraderie that The Ryder Cup represents and we are looking forward to a superb event at Blairgowrie.”
The event is an international showcase of golf’s next generation, and is designed to continue to build international friendships between top junior golfers in the United States and Europe. Notable past players include Rory McIlroy, Matteo Manassero, Suzann Pettersen, Carlota Ciganda and Hunter Mahan.

WHITEFORD'S 66 GIVES SCOT A

WINNING CHANCE IN RUSSIAN OPEN

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Scotland’s Peter Whiteford will hope to turn his season around when he goes head to head with Englishman David Horsey in the final round of the M2M Russian Open.
The 33 year old fired a six under par 66 in the third round at Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club to rein in Horsey, who signed for a 70, and at 13 under the pair are four shots clear of Scotland’s Scott Jamieson (69), Italian Andrea Pavan (64) and Belgian Thomas Pieters (72).
Whiteford, who is 190th in The Race to Dubai having only made four cuts all season, had a brilliant front nine, notching five birdies and an eagle against one dropped shot, then played the back nine in level par
Key Quotes:
David Horsey
“Pete started like a train and I was just trying to tell myself to concentrate on my own game. It wasn’t that easy out there today and I certainly didn’t see a five or six under through nine holes.

"I just kept reminding myself to stay patient and concentrate on my own game, not what Pete was doing. I was disappointed not to birdie the eighth and then bogey the ninth – three under at the turn would have been nice.
"But then I birdied the tenth and 11th and tried to get back to the thought process that I’ve had the first two days. I didn’t quite maintain it that well on the back nine, but I kept myself in there and hopefully it’ll be a little better tomorrow.
Peter Whiteford
“I had an amazing start. I holed a bunker shot on the first and then chipped in on the third. Dave (Horsey) chipped in as well – he stole some of my glory there! So I got off to a flyer and then the back nine I was just hanging on for dear life.

"The swing didn’t feel great at all to be honest. I’m hoping I wake up tomorrow with a better swing. I had a lot of good luck today. On the 15th I hit my tee shot straight into the forest – it’s a tricky shot straight into the wind from an elevated tee which is never going to add up to much fun.
"But it bounced back out onto the fairway. Hopefully I haven’t used up all my luck, but I certainly used a big chunk there. The back nine was tougher today – the stretch from ten to 13 is where you might slip up.
"It hasn’t been the best season this year. It’s been pretty brutal really. I’m not confident at all but that front nine today helps massively and I’m glad Dave and I have put a bit of breathing space between us and the next guys. It might be a bit like match play on the front nine tomorrow.”

BRITS MISS CUT ON WEB.COM TOUR

Highland Gunn improved by five but still missed out by four with rounds of 75 and 70.
Also on the 145 mark was Aberdeen-born, Aussie-raised Michael Sim, making a comeback after two years on the sidelines for one reason or another. Michael shot 73-72.
Greg Owen had a pair of 73s for 146.

McDOWELL MAKES HIS MOVE IN MONTREAL TOURNAMENT

L’ILE BIZARD, Quebec – Thursday at the RBC Canadian Open was all about the three P’s – Petrovic, Putnam, and Pendrith. On Friday, at least according to the crowd’s excitement and the numbers on the leaderboard, it was all about the Grahams (or, the Graemes, depending on your choice of spelling).
After a day where Graeme McDowell admitted he was feeling tired – “It’s kind of bedtime in the UK for me right now,” he said Thursday evening – he “felt a lot fresher this morning” and his score reflected that.
His 5-under 65 puts him at 7-under for the championship, and tied for fifth with three others.
Jim Furyk leads the way at 10-under, tied with first round co-leader Tim Petrovic.
Meanwhile, Graham DeLaet had one of the rounds of the day: he and playing partner Jim Furyk both shot 7-under 63s to match Royal Montreal’s course record. DeLaet finished at 8-under, and is tied for third with Kyle Stanley.
Both said they were feeding off the success of each other, and in the case of McDowell, he was seeing what was happening ahead of him – the Furyk/DeLaet group – and was trying to keep up.
“If it’s possible to feed off the group in front of you, I was kind of doing that a little bit. Some good players up there,” McDowell said.
DeLaet wasn’t aware of what McDowell, playing behind him, was doing. But, the fine play of his other group members was driving him to score well too.
“All of us were making so many birdies out there. I mean, there could have been more. But it was a good day,” explained DeLaet. “It was fun.”
Although Graham and Graeme won’t be playing together Saturday, they did play an exhibition match at the already-famed Cabot Links in Nova Scotia in September 2013. At the time, McDowell said Cabot Links looked a lot like his native Portrush and hoped for something of a home field advantage.
It worked out in McDowell’s favor that day, as he drummed DeLaet by five strokes and set the course record.
Today was slightly reversed, as it was DeLaet shooting the course record. He did so on the heels of some strong putting – something different for the 32-year-old. DeLaet is ranked 137th in strokes gained-putting this year, but this week he’s first in the field.
“When you see putts rolling in from everywhere like it was in our group today, you just feel like putting is easy or something,” he admitted.
For now, McDowell and DeLaet remain separated by one shot on the leaderboard and a couple letters in their names.
But, they both want their name – no matter the spelling – to be called as the “RBC Canadian Open Champion” come Sunday night.

POSTAL BALLOT ON MOTION TO ADMIT WOMEN AS MEMBERS

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews

STATEMENT

A postal ballot among members of the Club on a motion to admit women as members will be conducted prior to the announcement of the result on 18 September 2014.
This replaces the vote that was previously scheduled to take place at the Club’s Business Meeting on that day. By taking this decision all members can take part in this historic vote.

Notes to Editors:
The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews holds a unique position in golf. Established in 1754, it evolved through two and a half centuries as a leading authority in the world game.
As the Club celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2004 it devolved responsibility for the administration of the Rules of Golf, the running of The Open Championship and other key events, and the development of the game in existing and emerging golfing nations, to a newly formed group of companies collectively known as The R&A.
As a separate entity The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews remains as a private golf club with a world-wide membership of 2,400.
