SECOND NIGHT'S PLAY HALTED, TIES TO BE RESUMED WEDNESDAY EVENING
HAAR HEADACHE FOR MAITLAND
SHIELD ORGANISERS AT STONEHAVEN
THE infamous “Stonehaven haar” disrupted the second night of the City of Aberdeen double foursomes for the Maitland Shield when it swept in off the North Sea forcing a halt to play.
THE infamous “Stonehaven haar” disrupted the second night of the City of Aberdeen double foursomes for the Maitland Shield when it swept in off the North Sea forcing a halt to play.
Visibility was down to about 50 yards for much of the hour and a half’s
play which was managed but when the first matches reached the 13th tee
-- the start of the gully holes – it was deemed too dangerous to
continue.
The postponement has given the competition organisers a massive headache as
effectively a full night’s play has been lost and the finals
will have to be moved into next week, perhaps meaning clashes with the
Links championships.
When the hooter sounded, the state of play was as follows:
Nigg Bay 0, Banchory 2
S Jamieson and I Welsh 1 up on A Lindsay and A Ramage after 12 holes
N Slater and R Forbes 3 down to J Harling and R Black after 12 holes).

The postponement means that Wednesday night’s ties will be moved to
Thursday with the postponed matches resuming when they left off at the following
tee times on Wednesday:
6pm (13th tee) Nigg Bay 1 v Banchory 1; (9th tee) Stonehaven 2 v Auchmill
2.
6.07 (8th tee) Hazlehead 2 v Newmachar 2; (9th tee) Hazlehead 1 v Newmachar
1; (13th tee) Nigg Bay 2 v Banchory 2.
6.15 (13th tee) Stonehaven 1 v Auchmill 1.
Conditions meant last night’s play bordered on the farcical at times with
the main victims being Auchmill.
It is normally tough enough to play the host club in foursomes matchplay at
the best of times but at a local-knowledge course like Stonehaven in thickish
fog it proved nigh impossible for the poor Auchmill team, as reflected in the current score.
