BLAIRGOWRIE PLAYER HAS BEST THIRD-FOURTH ROUND AGGREGATE

BRADLEY NEIL THIRD IN LYTHAM

TROPHY AFTER SUNDAY BEST
Blairgowrie's Scottish boys champion Bradley Neil put on his Sunday best form to finished third in the prestigious Lytham Trophy tournament over 72 holes at the Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club's Open championship venue.
After opening rounds of 75 and 71, Neil stepped up a gear with the best Sunday two-round aggregate by anyone in the field, even the South African winner Thriston Lawrence and the Dutch runner-up Darius Van Driel.
Bradley shot rounds of 68 and 69 over the testing par-70 lay-out for a final total of three-over-par 283.
Lawrence won by a single shot with scores of 72, 69, 72 and 68 for one-over 281.
Van Driel shot 282 with rounds of 71, 73, 72 and 66.
If Neil had shot closer to par in that first round he could have been the Lytham Trophy's first Scottish winner since Lloyd Saltman in 2007.
The German who led for most of the tournament, Hurly Long, drifted out of the picture with a final-round 77 for 286.
Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie), in the mix with two rounds to go, also slipped to an eight-over-par closing round of 78 to finish joint 13th on 219.
Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie), who finished in the top 10 last year, signed off with rounds of 70-74 for 293 and a joint 19th place finish.
Alex Culverwell (Dunbar) and Scott Gibson (Southerness) tied for 25th place on 295.
Ellon's Adam Dunton was the last of the Scots who beat the halfway cut. He sagged to Sunday scores of 75 and 79 for a share of 39th place on 301.

SENSATIONAL EAGLE AT LAST HOLE FOR VICTORY

AGUILAR FINISHES 2-2 TO WIN AT

LAGUNA NATIONAL

REPORT FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Felipe Aguilar holed his approach shot for a stunning eagle on the final hole of The Championship at Laguna National as the Chilean claimed his first European Tour title in six years in dramatic fashion.
The 39 year old produced a sensational two-two finish to deny long-time leader Anders Hansen, following a birdie on the par three 17th hole with a superb second shot from 142 yards with a pitching wedge that went straight into the hole on the par four last.
It is the first time a player has won a European Tour event by holing his second shot on a par four finishing hole.
After two birdies on the front nine, Aguilar came back in just 28 shots for a stunning ten under par final round of 62 at Laguna National Golf & Country Club to finish on 22 under par, one shot clear of American David Lipsky (65) and Dane Hansen, who crucially dropped a shot on the 16th hole just moments after Aguilar’s eagle finale to sign for a closing 67.
It ended a six-year wait for another victory on The European Tour for Aguilar following his maiden title in the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesian Open in 2008.
Key Player Quotes
Felipe Aguilar: “On the 17th green I told my caddie if I make a birdie on 18 I might put some pressure on the leader and he said you might make two. I looked at him and said they way I’m hitting the ball I might make two and I did. It’s very, very special.
"I didn’t think I had made it until my caddie came back and told me and the other players congratulated me. That was the cherry on the cake, definitely.
“It’s been a bit of a drought for the last six years. I’ve lost a couple of times in play-offs and had a couple of top threes and top fives, but never was able to get the round going on the last day, so it is nice to finally do it.”

Anders Hansen: “He finished two, two. It’s just one of those days. He had a good day, and played well obviously. I thought I played well too.
“If you go out last group and shoot 67 and finish -21 you think you’re in with a chance but you come up short. That’s just life.
“It’s just really, really, disappointing. To finish two-two on 17 and the 18 and hole your second shot, I don’t know what to say.”

LEADER CARLOS ORTIZ SEEKING THIRD WEB.COM TOUR WIN

JIMMY GUNN T17 GOING INTO LAST

ROUND OF SOUTH GEORGIA CLASSIC

FROM THE WEB.COM TOUR WEBSITE
VALDOSTA, Georgia: If Mexican Carlos Ortiz wins the South Georgia Classic on Sunday, he will earn promotion to the US PGA Tour.
Ortiz shot an even-par 72 and maintained his grip on the lead after 54 holes of the weather-delayed tournament.
Ortiz stumbled late with a three-putt bogey in near darkness on the final hole and finished with a 12-under 204 total, one shot better than newcomer Adam Webb (65), Californian Max Webb (70) and Monday qualifier Rob Oppenheim (70).
Blayne Barber, who grew up about an hour away in Lake City, Florida, blitzed through the back nine of the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in 6-under and finished with a 66 that put him in solo fifth, two off the pace.
Ryan Amour (67) is alone in sixth place, three back of Ortiz, who held a three-shot lead when the weather-plagued second round finally came to a close shortly before noon Saturday.
“Today was a good day. I struggled on the back nine but I’m still there and that’s what matters,” said Ortiz, who is seeking his third win of the season.
“I’m in position for tomorrow. I’m still there and that’s what I wanted, to be in contention on the last day.”
The final group of Ortiz, Homa and Oppenheim were scurrying on the inward nine to finish their round before they ran out of daylight.
“The pace picked up on the back nine and they started timing us on 15,” added Ortiz, who had a double bogey and two bogeys on the back.
“Things got really quick and I struggled with that. It may have cost me two shots but I’m right there so it doesn’t matter.”
Ortiz started the round leading by three and was still up by that margin when he yanked his tee shot left on the 10th hole and the ball bounced off the cart path and into a hazard. His double-bogey six was his first over-par hole of the tournament and it gave new hope to a bundle of challengers, including his two playing partners.
Homa recovered from a double bogey at No. 12 that dropped him four off the pace but the former Cal All-America bounced back with a couple of birdies to close within one.
“That’s something I’ve been working on. I’m usually not great with the positivity,” he admitted. “My caddie told me to keep head up and not freak out about it. Honestly that was the most important thing. Regardless of how many birdies, I came back after that and my head was back in it. One bad hole isn’t going to ruin a tournament.”
The surprise of the day and the tournament is 26-year-old Adam Webb of Virginia who is making his first career start on Tour courtesy of a sponsor exemption. Webb, who has been on the e-golf Tour, posted a bogey-free 65 that vaulted him into contention.
“I’ve been playing well all year but my scores don’t necessarily show that,” he said. “I’ve won once and missed four cuts but the scores don’t show how you actually played. We played in some tough conditions this year.”
Webb move up the board by draining some good birdie putts but also tossed some iron shots inside of five feet and made the putting easier on himself, pretty good for a virtual unknown.
“I’ve played well since last year and I’ve just been waiting for my opportunity to shine,” he said. “It just happens to be this week so far. I’m not getting ahead of myself and just looking for to tomorrow.”
Jimmy Gunn is sharing 17th place on 211 with scores of 70, 68 and 73.

Third-Round Notes:
• Saturday weather: Clouds in the morning. Play suspended from 11:00 a.m. to noon due to threatening conditions in the area. Sunny in the afternoon. Wind NNW 8-16 mph. High of 80.
• The final round was completed at 8:26 p.m. • Lift, clean and place conditions were in effect for the third round, as they were for the first two rounds.
