Lloyd Saltman scored a rare victory as a professional today (Monday), winning the Jamega Tour's 36-hole event at Quinta do Vale, Monchique in north-west of Portugal's Algarve region.
The Archerfield man won £2,000 for a five-under-par aggregate of 139 (68-71).
He had five birdies and a double bogey at the par-3 ninth as he relegated his older brother Elliot, co-leader overnight, to second place.
Elliot had a double bogey 6 at the 15th on his way to a second-round 73 for 141.He finished joint second with England's Tom Whitehouse (69-72) and Portugal's Tiago Cruz (73-68). Each won £1,056.
Scott Drummond (70-76) finished joint ninth with Callum Macaulay (73-73) on 146. Both earned £112.
Ellon's Ross Cameron had to withdraw from the second round as he was not feeling well enough
to play another 18 holes.

PRIZE FUND SOARS TO £5 MILLION

EUROPEAN TOUR CHANGES FINAL 

SERIES FORMAT TO SUIT PLAYERS

The European Tour has announced changes to the season-ending Final Series and the climax to the Race To Dubai after several players criticised the new format last year.
Along with a big increase in prize money, the major change made by the Tour is the removal of the need for players to play in two of the three Final Series events in order to be eligible for the bonus pool and the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
The prize fund goes from $3.75 million to $5 million this season, while the concluding World Tour Championship will include the leading 60 players available rather than just those who finished inside the top 60 in the Race TO Dubai standings.
The likes of Sergio Garcia and Ernie Els were critical of the new criteria last season, as the European Tour introduced the Final series to rival the US PGA Tour's FedEx Cup that forms the end of their season.
The closing events will remain the same, with the BMW Masters, WGC-HSBC Champions and Turkish Airlines Open being held before the World Tour Championship - but the changes in qualification have been made after discussions with the players and the Tournament Committee of the European Tour.

Good move

"The new regulations and the new points system are a good move," said 15-time winner and Tournament Committee chairman Thomas Bjorn.
"It means if you miss some of those events it will be difficult to win The Race to Dubai, so there is an incentive to play in as many Final Series events as possible. 
"The goal for us was to get the top players to play in the Final Series and this will hopefully help do that."
A new points system will also be introduced in 2014, with all prize money on the Race To Dubai standings converted to points after the final regular event at the Perth International, with the Final Series events having a different points breakdown to reward players performing well in the closing events.
Players must then play in the World Tour Championship to be eligible for the bonus prize pool which will be shared by the top 15 players on the Race To Dubai standings.
"It's good to evaluate and make tweaks to any system," last year's winner Henrik Stenson said of the changes. "These changes are for the better and won't cut anyone out if they don't want to play all of the Final Series events.

"It's down to yourself, but if you do play in all of them you are giving yourself an even better chance of winning The Race to Dubai. It's always nice to see an increase in the Bonus Pool as well, so I think the announcement is a good move all round."
One of last year's critics Garcia also welcomed the changes, saying: "I'm very happy with the changes and I'm looking forward to the Final Series. At the end of the day, we are all working together. 
"I'm very happy to see that we've reached a middle ground which should help make us all happy."
Keith Waters, Chief Operating Officer and Director of International Policy for The European Tour, said that they had listened to the player when making the changes.
"The inaugural staging of The Final Series was a huge success with the best golfer in the world at the end of last year - Henrik Stenson - eagling the final hole at Jumeirah Golf Estates to win not only the DP World Tour Championship but also The Race to Dubai.
"However, The European Tour always listens to its Membership and we were aware that there was some fine tuning required to the overall structure of The Final Series to make an already excellent product even better. We are confident that the changes we are announcing today will do just that."

SAO PAULO, Brazil – Jon Curran needed only a 2-under-par 69 on the final day to cap off a record week with a four-stroke win at the Brasil Champions presented by HSBC.
Curran jumped out in front with a 10-under 61 in the first round at the Sao Paulo Golf Club and never looked back in a wire-to-wire win, only the second on Tour in the past six-plus years.
The 27-year-old Vanderbilt grad slammed the door with a birdie on the final hole for a 25-under 259 total to collect his first career win and a first-place check worth $144,000.
“I kept thinking to myself all day that I wasn’t nervous, I was just anxious,” said Curran, who led by four at the start of the day. “I said to myself that it was going to be okay if I wasn’t in the lead at some point, I just wanted to have a chance on the back nine.”
Germany's Alex Cejka, winner of the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship, finished second at 21-under. Australia’s Ash Hall solo third, five back while Manuel Villegas was fourth, seven off the pace.
Curran never lost the lead on Sunday and very few even had a chance as the Massachusetts native etched his name in the Tour record-book with highlights every day.
He made eight consecutive birdies in the first round, had the second-lowest 36-hole score (125) in Tour history, matched the lowest 54-hole score ever (190) and his 259 total equaled the fifth-best since the Tour’s inception in 1990.
“Somebody once said that you’re going to face something in the final round that you haven’t faced all week,” he said. “The guys who win deal with it and the guys that don’t, don’t win.”
Curran didn’t have to deal with too much on Sunday as he plugged along with a conservative attack that had him firing into the middle of greens and away from any dangerous pin locations.
“Maybe it wasn’t as aggressive as I had been the first three days,” he admitted. “As a result I had some good looks at birdie but they were more in the 20-foot range.”
He didn’t make many but then, he didn’t need many.
His closest challengers Cejka (69) and Hall (70) didn’t put any pressure on the leader.

• Curran picked up a check for $144,000 and moved from No. 44 to No. 2 on the money list.

• Curran is the third consecutive first-time winner on Tour this year. He joins Alex Cejka (Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship) and Adam Hadwin (Chile Classic) on that list.
• Curran is the first rookie winner on Tour this year.

NEWPORT BEACH, California (AP) -- Fred Couples won the Toshiba Classic on Sunday for his 10th Champions Tour title, birdieing the final two holes for a one-stroke victory.
The 54-year-old Couples shot a 5-under 66 to finish at 15-under 198 at Newport Beach Country Club. He earned first prize of $262,500 from the total prizefund of $1,750,000.
 Also the 2010 winner, laid-back Fred made a 4-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th and holed another 4-footer on the par-5 18th.
"I worked pretty hard but I drove it all over the lot," Couples said. "I made some putts and when you do, you have a chance."
Couples had to scramble on the final hole to take the outright lead. After hitting his approach over the green, he hit a flop shot to set up the birdie putt.
"I hit a 6-iron and it was way too much club," Couples said. "To get up-and-down from there for me was kind of miraculous."
Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer and Steve Pate tied for second. Langer had a chance to force a playoff, but missed a 20-foot birdie try on 18 and settled for a 70.
"I knew where I stood," Langer said. "I asked someone and they told me Freddie birdied. I just hit a bad shot."
Montgomerie - who has his 51st birthday in June - had a 62, the best round of the week, and Pate shot a 66.
It was Monty's third appearance on the US Seniors Tour of the year and his third top 10 finish. His placings so far - T10, T6 and T2.
Which suggests that the big Scot from Glasgow will be a winner next time out!
He won $128,000 for joint second in the Toshiba Classic, bringing his earnings from the three US events this year to $228,841.
In his Sunday bogey-free round of 62, Colin birdied the first, long third, short fourth and fifth in four-under 31 to the turn.
After that came birdies at the 12th, short 13th, long 15th, short 17th and long 18th in five-under 31 for the homeward journey.
The Americans are hot on statistics and the Champions Tour website relates that Monty had an average drive of 278.2yd in the "Toshiba," and an average of 1.667 putts per green. He hit 72.22 per cent of the greens in regulation.
Couples became the second two-time winner in tournament history. Hale Irwin won in 1998 and 2002.
"It was a great day," Couples said. "I was a little salty out there at times. I assumed someone would get to 16 under. I'm just happy I made some birdies."
Langer's approach on No. 18 ended up left of the green up against a hospitality tent. After a drop, he chipped 20 feet past the hole and his birdie putt missed on the left side.
"I pull-hooked it and when you are left, especially short and left you have no chance," Langer said. "I hit a good putt, but it didn't go in."
Mark O'Meara, Michael Allen, Kenny Perry, Jeff Hart and Scott Dunlap tied for fifth at 13 under. O'Meara closed with a 64, Allen had a 67, Hart and Dunlap shot 68, and Perry had a 69.
