LOS ANGELES – Lee Westwood’s run with Sean Foley as his swing coach was short-lived.
“I am not working with Sean anymore,” Westwood told GolfChannel.com after his pro-am round Wednesday when asked about a Golf Channel report that he was splitting with Foley roughly seven months after they began working together.
 “I am going to be working with somebody else.”
Who?
“It’s not something I want to discuss at the moment,” Westwood said.

Westwood, 40, in search of that elusive first major championship victory, began working with Foley shortly before the Open last July. Westwood watched fellow Englishman Justin Rose win the U.S. Open at Merion with Foley tutoring him. 
It might have been the tipping point in the change for Westwood, who actually began talking to Foley at the Memorial just before the U.S. Open. Westwood rose to No. 1 in the world with long-time coach Pete Cowen’s help.
What didn’t work with Foley?
“I just wanted something else, a new way of teaching,” Westwood said. “I did enjoy working with him.”
Westwood tied for third at the Open in his first event with Foley officially coaching him last summer. 
In 11 starts since, Westwood has recorded one top-10 finish. He opened this year tying for 47^th at the Farmers Insurance Open. He missed the cut in his only other start, the Waste Management Phoenix Open two weeks ago.
Westwood took the No. 1 world ranking from Tiger Woods in October of 2010. He held the top spot for 22 weeks overall. He’s No. 33 in the world now. 

FIRST EVENT OF 2014 ON EVOLVE PRO TOUR

NEIL HENDERSON 10 OFF PACE IN SPAIN

Neil Henderson (Renaissance), one of  only two Scots in a field of 47, is lying joint 12th at the halfway stage of the first event of the year on the Evolve Pro Tour at El Valle Golf Club, Murcia in south-east Spain.

Henderson, who had a double bogey 7 at the long seventh and birdies at the ninth and 15th, returned a four-over-par 75 to be 10 shots behind the leader, Spaniard Carlos Aguilar.
In our earlier report, we said that Henderson was the only Scot in the field. Then came later news
from Gary Silock, the Scots-born Director of Golf at La Manga Resort, that Henderson is not the only Scot in the field. He says Andrew Cullen, ex-Panmure Golf Club, is in there too.
We did catch up with Andrew's score later.

Montrose Links assistant professional Graeme Brown, pictured, won this week's Midland Golfers' Alliance competition over a very windy Arbroath links with a superb score of two-under-par 68.
Runner-up was local one-handicap amateur Steven Cargill with a 70, one shot ahead of third-place Carnoustie professional Fraser Mann.
Cargill's net 69 won him the leading handicap prize.
Steven also helped his all-Arbroath team of Euan Rae (5) and Scott Arbuthnott, also playing off 5, to the first prize in the team competition, sponsored by Ian Cooke Catering.

GUNN MAKES DISASTROUS DEBUT ON 

WEB.COM TOUR IN COLOMBIA

Dornoch exile Jimmy Gunn made a disastrous debut on the Web.com Tour - second only to the US PGA Tour in the States - with a five-over-par 77 in the first round of the Colombia Championship at Bogota Country Club today (Thursday).

The Arizona-based Scot never recovered from double bogey 6s at the first and fourth although he did birdie the short seventh to turn in three-over 38.

But his lone birdie of the second nine - at the 14th - was surrounded by bogeys at the 11th, short 12th, short 15th and long 18th.

PALISADES, Calif. -- Call it momentum. Confidence, if you'd like.

But Dustin Johnson and Jimmy Walker both have it right now, and they are making the game look pretty darn easy when we all know it's not.
Walker won Sunday at the AT and T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, picking up his third US PGA Tour title in just eight starts after winning none of his first 187. 

Dustin Johnson tied for second, one stroke behind the FedExCup leader, after closing with a 66.

Four days later, the positions are reversed with Johnson owning the one-stroke advantage at the Northern Trust Open after another 66 and Walker among 11 players tied for second. Granted, it's only the first round but the way the two are trending, don't be surprised to see them figure prominently in Sunday's finale.

As if their current form isn't enough of a boon, both players have positive vibes at famed Riviera, too. Johnson tied for third in 2010 and fourth in 2012. Walker also shared fourth in 2012, as well as the previous year.
Johnson started strong on Thursday, playing the back nine first and turning in a sizzling 32. Walker, on the other hand, finished with a flourish, making birdie putts of 20 inches, 8 feet and 30 feet, as the afternoon shadows began to lengthen and the poa annua greens crusted up.
"I've been playing pretty good all year, so the game's right where I want it to be," Johnson said. "Coming off a good week last week, I'm definitely feeling good coming in this week and then obviously getting off to a great start today.
"Any score under par out here is a pretty solid round. It's a tough course, but it's right in front of you, so it's just a golf course that I really like."
Walker, for his part, is "still processing it all." He didn't sleep particularly well on Sunday night after the most recent victory -- and it wasn't because his two young boys, Mclain and Beckett, were making too much noise in the family RV.
By Wednesday, though, Walker had caught up and was ready to get back into competition -- particularly at a golf course he loves.
"I was very excited to come this week," Walker said. "I'm always excited to come here. It's a great, old style golf course and I love how the tee boxes are all squared off and green complexes are really nice, and the golf course is in great shape. I like it when it's firm and fast and it always excites me to come here."
And his play speaks for itself.

Paul Howard is the leading English player at the halfway stage of the Portuguese international men's amateur championship at Montado Golf Resort on the Costa Azul.
Howard has had rounds of 74 and 67 for joint sixth place on 141.
Michael Saunders is T16 on 143 with rounds of 75 and 68. Also on 143 is Nicholas Marsh (71-72)
James Allen is T21 with 73-71 for 144.
Leading the field on 137 (seven under par) are Spain's David Morago (70-67) and Italy's Renato Paratore (68-69)
Portugal's Joao Carlota is in third place on 139 (67-72).
Sharing fourth place on 140 are Robbie Van West (Netherlands) with 69-71 and Nicolas Maheut (France) (72-68).

So you thought Donald Trump was bluffing.
Think again. The American tycoon means what he says - he has lost interest in his Aberdeenshire project which was once the apple of his eye.
He was quoted earlier this week as saying that he would pull the plug on developing his Menie Estate, Balmedie golf resort any further and not spend a penny more following his failure to stop the erection of a wind farm visible at sea from what he claimed was going to be the best course in the world.
Trump has now officially withdrawn a planning application to build a second course at the Menie Estate.
The US businessman had lodged plans in October for the second Aberdeenshire course which was going to be named the MacLeod course after his late mother.

Aberdeenshire Council confirmed the application - which was never fully completed - has now been withdrawn.
Mr Trump lost a legal bid at the Court of Session earlier this week to stop an offshore wind turbine development being built within view of his existing course on the North Sea coast.
On the same day he announced the purchase of Doonbeg Golf Club, Co Clare, on Irelan's west coast. The Doonbeg resort is in the hands of the Receiver which, in essence, means that more money was being spent running it that was coming into the coffers.
So why does Trump think he can turn that operation around? Because that's the kind of man he is.
But what happens next at Trump International Links at Balmedie, 12 miles north up the coastline from Aberdeen.
Does Trump pay off all the staff and just let it revert to dunes and long grass?
Or does he keep it ticking over with a minimum of staff in the hope that somebody, somewhere will buy it from him.
Your guess is as good as ours.
Let's wait and see. In the meantime, it will still cost you the best part of £200 if you wish to play a round over it.
But fewer and fewer people will surely want to pay that kind of money to play a course after all the negative publicity generated by Donald Trump himself.

James Byrne's pro golf career suffered another setback today when he missed the halfway cut in the Asian Tour Final Qualifying School in Thailand.

The Banchory player, winner of the Northern Open for the past two years, shot 75-70 for two-over-par 145, failing by three shots to be one of the 82

players who advance to the final two rounds to provide the leading 40 and ties qualifiers for the Asian Tour.

In the final analysis, it was Byrne's triple bogey 7, which included a two-shot  penalty, at the second hole of his first round which came back to haunt him.

The biggest name among the failures was Zane Scotland who shot 75-69 for 144.

KIRKHILL PRO WARMING UP FOR PGA EUROPRO TOUR

PAUL SHIELDS SIX-BIRDIE FINISH PUTS

Paul Shields of Kirkhill has birdied the last six holes at Anthem Golf and Country Club, for a 65,  to surge into fourth place in this week's All-American Gateway Pro Tour event in Arizona.

Paul is spending six weeks in USA in preparation for the 2014 EuroPro Tour in England. 

Paul has had 16 birdies in his first two rounds in the Arizona tournament and would be placed higher but for a poor finish in the first round. 

The tournament is over 54 holes and we wish Paul all the best in the final round.
