WESSELINGH WINS FUBON SENIOR OPEN TO TAKE LEAD IN ORDER OF MEIRT

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE

Liverpool-born Paul Wesselingh moved into pole position to win the European Senior Tour Order of Merit with victory in Taiwan in the Fubon Senior Open, the penultimate event of the season.
The 52-year-old Englishman leapfrogged Denmark’s Steen Tinning at the top of the money list with the €59,869 first prize at Miramar Golf and Country Club in Taiwan, where a final round two under par 70 gave him a one shot victory over home favourite Lu Wen-the.
England’s Bob Cameron took third place, and his compatriots Simon P Brown and Paul Eales shared fourth.

With only the €400,000 MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius remaining, Wesselingh made a huge move with his third title of the season, following wins in the ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship and the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open.

Wesselingh said: "It was unbelievable. It's been a dream week. It was a bit of a struggle today and difficult with a gusty wind, but I made two birdies in the first two holes.
"I then threw them away at the fourth and fifth - it's a very difficult stretch - but I parred my way round before birdieing the 16th and 18th.
"I had a massive break on the 15th when I pulled my tee shot miles left, but it hit the cart path two or three times and ended up just 50 yards from the green, so I was able to just chip and two-putt there.
"I hit a great tee shot on the 16th and a pitching wedge to ten feet. On the last I knew Mr Lu would go for the green in two, so I did as well. I found the bunker but had a good lie. I had a putt from four feet to win, and I could hardly feel the putter I was so nervous.
"It's great to be back on top of the Order of Merit with a nice lead. It's going to be between me and Steen to win. I love to play in Mauritius and it's going to be a very exciting event. Whatever happens it's been a phenomenal year and if anyone had told me I'd win three times and be at the top of the Order or Merit, I would have bitten their hand off."

MANILA MASTERS WINNERS DONATES HALF WINNINGS TO TYPHOON VICTIMS

REPORT FROM ASIAN TOUR
Manila, November 17: China’s Liang Wen-chong marked his return to the Philippines after more than five years by defeating Thailand’s Prom Meesawat in the first play-off hole to win the inaugural Resorts World Manila Masters on Sunday.
The Chinese third Asian Tour win was made even more significant as he decided to donate half of his total winnings to victims suffering from the aftermath of the devastating Typhoon Haiyan.
Liang’s run at the Resorts World Manila Masters was also remarkable as he had to play through the pain barrier and force his way into the play-off with Prom after closing with a three-under-par 69 at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club.
“Before coming over to the Philippines, I was really affected by what I saw of the damage and victims suffering from the aftermath of the Typhoon on television. I’ve decided to donate 50% of my winnings to do my part and support the relief efforts,” said Liang, who took home the winner’s prize cheque of US$135,000.
Liang, who had taken the overnight lead, extended his advantage after two birdies on holes three and four during regulation play.
He dropped a shot on a par-three fifth but turned his game around following a double-bogey six on the ninth.
The Chinese decided to drop his cautious approach and opted for an aggressive style of play instead.
His attack paid off handsomely as he fired four birdies on the holes 11th, 13th, 15th and the all-important 18th which would lead the contest into a play-off with Prom after compiling his four-day total of 16-under-par 272.
At the first play-off hole, Liang seized the advantage when Prom’s second shot found the bunker.
The Thai could only blast his shot out of the bunker while Liang was in prime position for an eagle opportunity.
Liang snuffed out all hopes for Prom when his putt from the edge of the green stopped inches away from the pin.
A simple tap from the 2007 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner was enough for him to seal his win at the inaugural Asian Tour event.
“I’m really thankful for all the great support this week. I had Ali on my bag (Malaysia’s Danny Chia’s regular caddie) and he did a great job. The Asian Tour physiotherapist, Muk also did an excellent job in taping my wrist which really helped a lot. I guess it’s the combination of all these factors which led me to my win this week,” said Liang.
Meanwhile Prom was left to wait longer for this second Asian Tour win despite a gutsy performance on a day where he carded a flawless 65 to stand on the brink of ending his seven-year title drought.
While the second win continued to elude him, Prom was optimistic with his welcome return to form as he had spent several frustrating years searching to regain that form.
“I had a bad season in 2010 when I lost all my confidence. I’ve been working very hard since. My friends and my team have been a great help. My wife and family have been supporting me too. I am glad I am starting to play good again,” said Prom.
Canadian rookie Richard T. Lee enjoyed another solid result in the Philippines after posting the day’s lowest round of 64 to share third place with fellow Asian Tour rookie Carlos Pigem in equal third on 273.
Lee, who finished second in the Asian Tour Qualifying School in January, capped another memorable week in the Philippines after finding similar success with a tied-second finish in Manila in April.
“It has been a steady year for me. I came here this week looking to retain my Tour card and also to get that first win. I managed to achieve my first goal and I guess the next target now would be that win,” said Lee.
Pigem is also enjoying his experience on playing on the region’s premier Tour after posting his best result at the Resorts World Manila Masters.
“I played really good today. I missed three or four putts but overall, it’s good. I am really happy with my game this week. It does not matter how I finished today. I was kind of disappointed yesterday but I managed to make it up today,” said Pigem.
“It has been a great year playing in Asia. I have a few more events coming up. Hopefully I can maintain my good form till the end of the season,” added the Spaniard.

THE RACE TO DUBAI WILL BE REPEATED IN 2017 SEASON

FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
The European Tour is today delighted to announce that The Race to Dubai has been extended through to the 2017 season.
The Race to Dubai, which replaced the Order of Merit in 2009, has captured the imagination of the global game as well as the attention of the world’s top players, with four former World Number Ones; Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy having also laid claim to the title of European Number One over the past four years.
The next edition of The Race to Dubai will once again conclude with the season-ending finale at Jumeirah Golf Estates, which will carry with it an increased Bonus Pool of US$5 million. Furthermore, at least one staging of the championship will be on the complex’s Fire course between 2014 and 2017.
As a further symbol of the committed partnership between The European Tour and Jumeirah Golf Estates, The European Tour will establish an International Office within the new clubhouse, which will be operational by the staging of the 2014 tournament, as well as acquiring a property within the grounds of what is destined to become one of the world’s pre-eminent residential communities.
George O’Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour, said: “It was 25 years ago that I came to Dubai for the first time for the first Dubai Desert Classic. Since then, we have helped to grow the game here and throughout the whole of the UAE while, in addition, we are also hugely supportive of Dubai’s bid to win the right to host Expo 2020.
“They have rewarded us with an incredible growth of courses alongside the facilities they provide for all our players. Thanks to the leadership and vision of DP World, the tremendous contribution of everyone at Jumeirah Golf Estates, and the continued commitment of our partners, the future of The Race to Dubai is exceptionally positive.
“We have announced today extending The Race until 2017 and I’ve said many times that this is the perfect venue to finish our year. The climate is excellent, the facilities here are superb, and the welcome from everyone here in Dubai is simply outstanding.”
Yousuf Kazim, General Manager of Jumeirah Golf Estates, said: “We are delighted to be extending the agreement for The European Tour’s Race to Dubai and hosting the season’s final event in Dubai at Jumeirah Golf Estates until at least 2017.
“This partnership with The European Tour includes the hosting of the DP World Tour Championship as well as Jumeirah Golf Estates being part of the European Tour Properties family, including the recently opened European Tour Performance Institute (ETPI).
“We look forward to staging the championship on the Fire course at Jumeirah Golf Estates and showcasing it to the world of golf at least once in the three year extension.
“This long term commitment mirrors the sustainable growth of Dubai and we are all very excited with this mutually beneficial partnership and where it is taking us.”

HENRIK STENSON WINS BY SIX SHOTS FROM IAN POULTER IN DUBAI

HAPPY FAMILY. Henrik Stenson with his wife and children after his stunning success in Dubai. Picture by courtesy of Getty Images(c)

REPORT FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Henrik Stenson was crowned The Race to Dubai Champion after finishing an incredible season in stunning style by romping to victory in the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
The Swede produced a golfing masterclass in the final round at Jumeirah Golf Estates, carding an eight under par 64 for a record 25 under par total to win by six shots from Englishman Ian Poulter, who pushed his rival all the way in the title race and signed off with a 66.
Stenson became the first European to win the lucrative FedEx Cup on the US PGA Tour in September, and completed a brilliant double in Dubai despite battling a wrist injury throughout the week, to become European Number One.
Fittingly, his victory was completed with a majestic eagle on the par 18th, where he hit a three-wood approach to less than a foot from the hole.
“It took a little time to sink in when I won the FedEx, and it just kept on feeling better and better as time went on and I'm sure this will be the same,” said Stenson, who has staged a remarkable comeback since falling out of the top 200 in the Official Golf World Ranking in early 2012. “I have managed to achieve something very special here this week.
“To get the double‑double, winning the Tour Championship on both the tours, that's going to take some beating in the future. It's been a dream year, a dream summer for me, and the season of my life.
“I’m just very, very pleased with the way I played.  I knew it was going to be a tough week and I knew the guys were going to keep on charging and trying to catch me. Being in the lead, you want to play solidly and not make any silly mistakes. I had a couple of really good iron shots early in the round to set up three birdies in the first five holes.
“It was blowing pretty hard with a lot of sand in the air on the back nine. I was just trying to hit fairways and greens and make pars coming in.”
Poulter was the only player left with a realistic chance of pipping Stenson to The Race to Dubai title on the final day, needing to win the tournament and for his rival to finish worse than second, but his efforts were in vain as the Swede blew the rest of the field away with a record low total, beating by two the previous best set by Lee Westwood in 2009 and matched by Rory McIlroy last year.
“I've tried to run Henrik down as hard as I possibly could,” said Poulter. “He's been in incredible form the last six months, and even with a sore wrist, he's managed to continue to press on and even today in the wind, he kept his head down and pressed on through.
“He's played exceptional golf in the back end of the year - simply incredible, flawless. The guy is the hottest player on the planet right now, and all credit to him.”

SGU'S NEW-LO9OK SQUAD FOR WARM WEATHER TRAINING IN UAE

SGU MEDIA RELEASE
British Boys champion Ewen Ferguson, Scottish Boys winner Bradley Neil and Robert MacIntyre, twice a national champion in 2013, are among a new-look group of Scotland’s leading male amateurs who will depart for a warm weather training camp to the United Arab Emirates this week.
The intensive training trip – the majority of which is funded by long-standing SGU sponsor Aberdeen Asset Management, Johann Rupert’s Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation and sportscotland – involves over three weeks of work on strength and conditioning, psychology and practice.
Building on three previous successful training trips to the UAE, the players depart tomorrow (18 November) until 12 December for the on and off course work at The Els Club, Dubai and two venues in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Yas Links.
Key members of the SGU coaching team – including National Coach Ian Rae and Scottish Golf Performance Manager Steve Paulding – will support the players, with input from expert staff at the sportscotland Institute of Sport.
The group of 10 includes five teenagers in Ferguson (Bearsden), Neil from Blairgowrie, MacIntyre (Glencruitten), Jamie Savage of Cawder and St Andrews’ Ben Kinsley, meaning the quintet will gain valuable experience and the opportunity to benefit from the use of world-class facilities.
Bearsden’s Ferguson, who became the first Scot in almost 10 years to win the Boys’ Amateur title, Neil and MacIntyre were all part of the Great Britain & Ireland side that won the 2013 Jacques Leglise Trophy and will hope to build on their potential through their work in the Far East.
Glenbervie’s Graeme Robertson and Scott Borrowman from Dollar – members of the Scotland side that reached the European Team Championship final in 2013 along with Neil – are also making the trip.
Having failed to come through European Tour Qualifying School and following discussions with Rae and former European Tour winners Dean Robertson (University of Stirling Head Performance Golf Coach) and Andrew Coltart (SGU Performance Committee), Graeme Robertson has opted to stay amateur for another year rather than turn professional. Resultantly, he has been added to the 2013-14 SGU Men’s National Squad.
Adam Dunton (McDonald), Scott Gibson of Southerness and Daniel Young (Craigie Hill) make up the group bound for the UAE. Borrowman will attend the training camp for a shorter period of 12 days at the finish, with MacIntyre and Dunton attending for the opening 12 days.
“Our warm weather training programme continues to evolve and provides an opportunity for the players to work on fitness and their golfing skills for an extended period,” said Paulding. “It’s almost an entirely different group of players we have this year, with a focus on the younger players.
“The venues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi offer magnificent courses, superb practice facilities and everything we need off the course. We are very grateful to the support of these venues and of our supporters who ultimately make this trip possible – Aberdeen Asset Management, the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation and sportscotland.
“It would be impossible to do the type of training planned in Scotland at this time of year, but also more expensive due to the in-kind sponsorship and preferential rates for the UAE camp.”

WHO ADVANCED, WHO FAILED AT WEB.COM TOUR Q SCHOOL

FROM THE US PGA TOUR WEBSITE
By Sean Martin, PGATOUR.COM
The second stage of Web.com Tour Qualifying School is vital. It’s all-or-nothing for most of the participants. Players who advance to the third and final stage are guaranteed at least conditional status on the Web.com Tour, which is the only pathway to the US PGA Tour. Most who miss out at second stage will start 2014 without status on that circuit.
Q-school’s second stage began this week at two sites. Here’s a look at how some notable names fared:
TPC Craig Ranch, McKinney, Texas
Nov. 12-15
Top 20 and ties advanced

WHO ADVANCED
· Tyler Weworski and James Sacheck tied for first at 18-under 270. Weworski is the son of 2004 U.S. Women’s Mid-Am winner Corey Weworski.

· Steven Fox, the 2012 U.S. Amateur champion, tied for fifth after shooting 74-66-64-72.
· Justin Thomas, who represented the United States at the 2013 Walker Cup, also shot 12-under 276. Thomas was college golf’s player of the year in 2012, beating out Jordan Spieth for the honor. Fox and Thomas were teammates on the United States' victorious team at the 2012 World Amateur Team Championship.
· Three sons of former PGA TOUR winners – Olin Browne Jr., Matt Weibring and Jamison Sindelar – advanced to final stage. Olin Browne Sr. won the 2011 U.S. Senior Open. Matt’s father, D.A., was a five-time TOUR winner. Jamison’s father, Joey Sindelar, won seven TOUR titles.
· Todd Hamilton, the 2004 Open Championship winner, advanced to final stage with one shot to spare.
WHO FAILED TO ADVANCE
· J.J. Killeen, the 2011 Web.com Tour player of the year, missed by one shot after a final-round 72.

· Eric Meierdierks, who played the PGA TOUR in 2013 after earning his card at q-school, missed by a shot after a final-round 70. He finished 207th in the FedExCup in 2013 after making just four of 19 cuts.
· Alex Carpenter missed by three shots. He represented the United States in the 2011 and 2013 Palmer Cups, a Ryder Cup-style match between the top collegians from the United States and Europe.
