PLAY SUSPENDED AGAIN ON DAY 2 OF PRESIDENTS CUP

FROM THE US PGA TOUR WEBSITE

DUBLIN, Ohio -- Play was suspended at the Presidents Cup at 3:09 p.m. ET due to dangerous weather in the area.
Minutes after the horn blew the rain began coming down in earnest. Players have been taken off the course.

This is the second straight day play has been suspended due to inclement weather.
The U.S. currently leads in three matches, the International Team in two and one match is all square.
Two of the matches have been lopsided so far.
Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley erased an early 1-down deficit and are now 3 up on Jason Day and Graham DeLaet after playing their first nine holes in 6 under with four birdies and an eagle.
Ernie Els and Brendon de Jonge, meanwhile, are also 3 up after playing their first holes in 5 under with three birdies and an eagle.
Steve Stricker and Jordan Spieth have led for all but two holes of their match with Branden Grace and Richard Sterne and are 1 up through seven holes.
Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker are all square through six holes against Angel Cabrera and Marc Leishman, while Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar have led 1 up through the first five holes against Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen.
In the day's final match, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama are 2 up through five holes against Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson.

EARLY BIRD MITCHELL RACES CLEAR AT ROCKLIFFE HALL

REPORT FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
After hitting the opening shot of the tournament on Friday morning, England’s Peter Mitchell fired a sweet 66 to lead after the first round of the English Senior Open at Rockliffe Hall – a performance he credited in part to a couple of old friends.
A little technological assistance in the build-up and some guidance from European Tour winner and Rockliffe Hall touring professional Graeme Storm helped the 55 year old Kent native to finish the day one clear of compatriot Gordon J Brand and the Spanish pair of Jose Manuel Carriles and Santiago Luna.
One shot further back after the opening exchanges was England’s David J Russell, while star rookie Steen Tinning of Denmark was amongst a four-strong group on three under par.
Following a damp start in County Durham, hosting the fifth edition of the English Senior Open after a six-year absence from the Senior Tour schedule, the skies cleared and it was in glorious sunshine that Mitchell played some red-hot golf in front of excellent galleries at the five-star Rockliffe Hall.
The four-time Senior Tour winner was almost flawless during the first round – hitting every fairway and all but one green on Friday – as six unblemished birdies and a superb up and down for par at the last secured a slim lead heading into the weekend.
“That was tip-top, really solid,” said Mitchell, who won his last event four years ago at the Casa Serena Open. “I didn’t do a lot wrong and I have to give credit to my mate Craig who owns Indoor Golf in Newcastle.
“I went up there and he got me on his Sight Scope; I’ve never been on one before and he put new shafts on for me and it’s massively helped in my iron play in getting the distances right.
“I was shocked how good they are and it’s turned things around for me. Hopefully that will stand me in good stead for the week.”
Mitchell, who splits his time between playing on the Senior Tour and his burgeoning golf academies, used to coach Rockliffe’s Storm and said watching the 2007 Open de France winner in the pro-am was beneficial.
“It was nice to see it with Stormy, I taught him for a while,” Mitchell continued. “I wouldn’t say he gave me any advice on how to play the course but it was nice to catch up with him – he’s a lovely boy and a talented golfer.
“I didn’t get a chance to play the back nine with the rain yesterday but I caught up with him playing in the pro-am so it was great to see how the course is meant to be played!”
Former Ryder Cup Captain Mark James was not far off the pace following day one after a two under par 70, while invite Graeme Bell (70) was the best of the three local players contesting the £200,000 event as John Harrison and Roger Roper both signed for three over par rounds of 75.
This is the first major event the majestic Rockliffe Hall has hosted since opening its doors four years ago and chairman Warwick Brindle commented: “It has been a fantastic first day, and it has been good to see so many local people turn out to support the event.
"There are tickets still available on the gate for Saturday and Sunday and with the forecast for the weekend looking good, we anticipate welcoming many more visitors.
"Good luck to all the players, I think we have an interesting two days ahead of us."

JAMIESON AND LYNN HELP GB AND I FIGHT BACK IN SEVE TROPHY

SEVE TROPHY REPORT
 FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
David Lynn and Scott Jamieson produced a dramatic comeback as Great Britain & Ireland edged the second day of fourballs in the Seve Trophy by Golf+ to reduce Continental Europe’s overall lead to a single point.
Jamieson birdied the last two holes, sinking a nerveless six foot putt on the last, to secure a superb point against the Italian pair of Francesco Molinari and Matteo Manassero, who had been one up with two holes to play.
That meant Sam Torrance’s team triumphed in each of the top three matches, after opening pair Paul Casey and Simon Khan defeated Mikko Ilonen and Thorbjørn Olesen 3 and 2, and an inspired Jamie Donaldson and his partner Marc Warren defeated Thomas Björn and Miguel Angel Jiménez 4 and 2.
Continental Europe, who led 3½-1½ after the opening day of fourballs, claimed their first point of the second session when Nicolas Colsaerts and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño equalled the biggest winning margin in the tournament's history, the pair recording a 6 and 5 win over Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher.
Joost Luiten and Gregory Bourdy then doubled that tally when they held off a determined fightback from English pair Tommy Fleetwood and Chris Wood.
Luiten and Bourdy, who had combined so impressively on the first day, were on course for another comfortable victory when they were three up after 14 holes and two up with two to play, but Wood's eagle on the 17th ensured it would go down to the final hole.
Both Wood and Fleetwood had birdie putts on the last to halve the match, but neither could convert so the session ended 3-2 in favour of Great Britain and Ireland.
That result meant Torrance’s GB&I team trail 5½-4½ heading into a fascinating weekend at Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche.
The Scot – the winning Ryder Cup Captain in 2002 -  said: “The golf that was played was beautiful; Jamie Donaldson was nine under on his own
“It was fantastic.  Then Scott Jamieson and David Lynn were one down with two to play and we could easily have lost that point but we ended up winning it.  Chris Wood and Tommy Fleetwood had great chances too.  It was a shame for them they didn't make them but it's a great come back and we are only a point behind.”
Continental Europe captain José María Olazábal, himself a winning Ryder Cup Captain last year, said: ““There is just a fraction of disappointment. We let a point go with the Italians; they had the match under control until the very end.
“Overall 3 2 is not that bad - it's pretty much what we've said all along, these guys play great golf, and you have to be on your toes.

“When you play at this kind of level, it's decided on little things, and today was a good proof of that.

Torrance opted to leave out English pair Khan and Lynn for the first of Saturday’s four-match foursome sessions, with two new pairings being used.
Lawrie and Gallacher remain in tandem, and have a chance to avenge Colsaerts and Fernandez-Castaño in the first match out

Donaldson will again partner Warren against Luiten and Bourdy, while Olazábal unveiled his first re-jigged pairings of the week in the third and fourth matches.

Olesen and Molinari will face Jamieson and Wood, before Jiménez and Manassero come up against Casey and Fleetwood, with Björn and Ilonen sitting out the morning session.

ESSEX PAIR WIN SECOND PGA FOUR-BALL TITLE

NEWS RELEASE FROM PGA
Essex boys Jason Levermore and Andrew Pestell picked up their second Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship – becoming the first double winners in the tournament’s history.
The wise-cracking duo, victors in 2008, claimed the title in style as they produced a best-of-the-week 11-under-par 62 to finish on 23-under and win the BMW-supported event by one at Forest Pines, Lincolnshire.
Levermore (Channels) and Pestell (Chelmsford) admitted they thought they were playing for second having begun the final round five-shots behind the leaders – however, their audacious game plan came good as they scooped the title and the £5,000 winners’ cheque.
A stunning round of nine birdies – including two in the last two holes from Pestell, plus the bonus of an eagle on the third, saw them come through the pack and deny Kent neighbours and tournament debutants Benn Barham and Mark Trow (both Kings Hill).
Levermore, who has had a life-changing 2013 having taken on the role of Head Professional at Channels as well as becoming a father, admitted victory capped a memorable year.
“It feels great to win a second time – saves us qualifying next year!” he said.
“The last time we won we played the following year and then failed to qualify the following two. If we win again, maybe we’ll get a lifetime entry!
“This has been a really busy year for me with a new job, a little kid and playing the regions, which wasn’t in the plans, so this just tops the year off.”
Levermore, who eagled the third from 120-yards after being forced to chipping out of a fairway bunker, admitted he thought the duo were playing for second until seeing that none of the other title challengers were grasping the nettle.
“I didn’t think going into today we’d have much chance of winning,” he said.
“I thought if we could get a good round going we could finish second. The leaders didn’t get off to any start and then we were five-under going through nine and could see no-one had pushed on.
“That was when we thought we had a chance with a good back nine. We wanted to post a score and give the guys behind something to beat, which we did.
“The first couple of days we didn’t get anything flowing, but today it flowed lovely.”
Pestell, who sunk crucial putts over the final three holes, revealed that he’d been forced to swap putters after a disappointing opening day when the pair only managed a four-under-par 69.
“The first day we just putted terrible,” he said. “I changed putter and that seemed to come to life which was nice.
“This morning we talked about what we needed to do. The game plan was to get to five-under through nine and then hopefully before the other boys got round, get another one at 10 and get on the leaderboard. That was the idea and it was going to be hard as we haven’t played the front nine well this week, including one par five that we keep making five on.
“But we did that and then pushed on. Those final few holes I was feeling a bit drained but stuck in there. I had a shaky putt on 16 for par, knowing it was a big one. I had a lovely up and down on 17 from the left trap and at 18 I knew the putt had to go in. No ifs and buts.
“To win again is brilliant considering we struggled a few years to even qualify.”
But the duo had to wait for confirmation of their win, with the two pairs in the group behind both having chances to force a play-off with a birdie on the last.
Barham and Trow, both on the green in two, parred the hole to card an eight-under-par 65, their best score of the week, to finish as runners-up in 22-under-par on the back of successive 66s.
Former champions Martyn Thompson (Parkstone) and Michael Watson (Wessex Golf Centre) were also in the hunt. But the weight fell on Thompson after Watson was forced to pick up after a loose tee shot. Thompson’s approach missed the green leaving a testing chip from off the green for his birdie. It fell short and he ultimately bogeyed the last as the pair signed for a third successive seven-under-par 66.
It left them in a share of third place with overnight leaders Jon Bevan (Rhos-on-Sea) and Mark Sheppard (Darland) who closed with a four-under-par 69 for a 21-under total.
Runners-up Barham and Trow admitted to being disappointed at missing out on the title, but on picking up their cheque for £3,250, vowed to build on their first showing.
“We played solid all week and shot our best score today so we can’t be too disappointed,” said Barham.
“We shot seven-under, seven-under, eight-under and have been pipped by a team that shot 11-under so well done to them. We left a few out there but I am sure every team left a few out there. It’s just a bit disappointing not to win as we’re both competitive and we’re both winners.
“But it was a great experience. It’s a really good golf course and we both really enjoyed it and I am sure we’ll be back next year to go one better.”
Trow added: “I haven’t played a lot of competitive golf for quite a while so it’s good to be back in a big tournament with a good partner that helps you out. It was also good to see your name on the leaderboards again.
“It was a shame to finish one short but as Benn said to shoot eight-under, our best of the week, I don’t think we can be disheartened by what we scored. We have played consistently all week, putted nicely but the last couple of holes in each round we didn’t quite finish what we started.”

HOMAN AND BOND TOP TOUR Q SCHOOL SECTION D TOTALS

NEWS RELEASE FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Wes Homan Jnr coasted to victory in The European Tour’s Qualifying School First Stage Section D at Golf d’Hardelot, carding a closing round of 66 to finish five shots clear of the field on 12 under par.
The American led home a total of 27 qualifiers from the northern France venue thanks to a stunning back nine of 30 which included five unanswered birdies.
Homan Jnr was followed home by South African Louis De Jager and England’s Ben Evans, who carded respective rounds of 70 and 71 to finish tied second on seven under par.

The group of players finishing one shot back in a tie for fourth included Challenge Tour champion Floris De Vries of The Netherlands (70) and overnight leader Haydn Porteous of South African, who laboured to a round of 73 but still comfortably progressed to the Second Stage.
Other successful qualifiers include former European Tour stalwarts François Delamontagne of France and Welshman Garry Houston, who finished tied tenth and joint 17th respectively, whilst perhaps the performance of the day belonged to Ricki Neil-Jones, who squeezed in under the level par qualifying mark courtesy of a superb round of 66.
Meanwhile, lightning struck twice over at Frilford Heath as last year’s winner Liam Bond again found his name at the top of the leaderboard on the fourth and final day.
The Welshman closed with a round of 71 to finish top of the pile on 12 under par alongside the overnight leader Laurie Canter (75) and his fellow Englishman Jack Senior, who signed off with a 70.
Perhaps the most eye-catching display of the day was that of English amateur Nathan Kimsey, who finished fourth on 11 under par after firing a flawless round of 65 in Oxfordshire.
A total of 29 qualifiers progressed to the Second Stage including South African Brandon Stone, who made a stunning start to his professional career with a top ten finish at the BMW International Open in June in what was his first appearance since leaving the amateur ranks.
