PAUL LAWRIE CRITICISES US-BASED STARS WHO ARE SNUBBING THE SEVE TROPHY IN PARIS

  FROM THE BBC SPORT.COM WEBSITE
Paul Lawrie has criticised six of his Ryder Cup-winning team-mates - including Rory McIlroy - for opting out of next week's Seve Trophy.
Lawrie is part of the Great Britain and Ireland team that will aim to record a seventh consecutive win over Europe.
But as well as McIlroy, Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose and Lee Westwood - who all play on the US PGA Tour - will not play at St-Nom-La Breteche Golf Club in Paris.
"I don't quite understand it and it's extremely disappointing," said Lawrie.
The biennial competition - created by the late world number one Seve Ballesteros - was introduced in 2000 and takes place in years when the Ryder Cup does not.
Lawrie added: "I would walk to Paris to play and I would have done whatever it took to be in that team next week.
"With Seve's name attached to it and the idea behind the tournament, it's kind of the equivalent of the Presidents Cup  for the American boys."
GB and Ireland's 10-man squad will be led by Sam Torrance, while his European counterpart, Jose Maria Olazabal will have to do without fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia.
Torrance said: "We have got a good blend of players in the team and I'm really looking forward to working with all of them."

McGEE AND PAYNE SHARE LEAD IN EUROPR0 TOUR EVENT AT MOOR ALLERTON

REPORT FROM NICK TEALE
Ruaidhri McGee and Greg Payne both shot 65 on the opening day of the Clipper Logistics Championship at Moor Allerton Golf Club to lead the 888poker.com PGA EuroPro Tour event by one on six under par.

Welshman Tim Dykes and Bristol and Clifton Golf Club’s Paul Reed share second on five under after shooting 66 on the par-71 course on Wednesday. Seven golfers are two off the leaders on four under par.

The event is the final tournament prior to the Tour Championship at Prince’s next month, and only the top 60 on the Order of Merit at the end of this weeks’ competition will be invited to play in the season finale.

Last year just two pence separated 60th and 61st position, making every shot vital in the race to secure a spot at Prince’s.

The Clipper Logistics Championship is the Tour’s first event in Yorkshire this season, and five 888poker.com PGA EuroPro Tour winners are either from or attached to a club in the county.

Marcus Armitage (-2, Howley Hall GC), James Hepworth (-1, Ilkley Golf Club), Alex Belt (-1, De Vere), Dave Coupland (level, Sharp Sports Golf Management) and Daniel Gavins (level, De Vere Oulton Hall) are all in contention to secure their 2014 Challenge Tour card by virtue of finishing in the top five on the EuroPro Order of Merit.

Nick McCarthy (-1, Moortown Golf Club) is currently 11th on the money list as the tour’s highest-ranked player yet to win an event this season.

Joint leader McGee (Rosapenna) signed for an unblemished 65 with four birdies on his front nine having started the tournament on the tenth tee.

Greg Payne (Chobham Golf Club) lies 19th on the Order of Merit and a win this week would move him into the all-important top five. He shot eight birdies on his way to six under, bogeying the fourth and 11th – both par threes.

Order of Merit leader George Woolgar (Capitalservices) is one of seven golfers tied fifth on four under, two behind Payne and McGee. The Chesterfield golfer is already assured of a top-five finish and is the only player to have won two 888poker.com PGA EuroPro Tour events this season.

The Clipper Logistics Championship is a 54-hole strokeplay event. A cut will be made after 36 holes, with the leading 50 players plus ties proceeding to play the final round on Friday, September 27.

Spectator entry to the event is free throughout the week and a two-hour highlights show will be broadcast at 8pm on Sky Sports 3 on Tuesday, October 8, repeated four times on Wednesday, October 9.

ALPS TOUR PLAYER KRIS NICOL HOME TO WIN NE ALLIANCE AT NEWMACHAR

SCROLL DOWN PAST THE SCORES TO FIND THE TEE TIMES AT ABOYNE NEXT WEDNESDAY

KRIS NICOL - TODAY'S PICTURE AT NEWMACHAR

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Colin@Scottishgolfview.com
Alps Tour player Kris Nicol from Fraserburgh was in France last week, Newmachar today and he will be in Italy next week.
The nomadic, have-clubs-will travel existence would not suit a lot of golfers but Kris says he is loving it.
And how nice for the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre player to win the £150 top prize in his first appearance on the 2013-14 North-east Alliance season over a Newmachar Hawkshill course playing long and, as usual, very difficult if you don't keep your ball out of the trees.
There were more than 20 No Returns today in a field of 93, which is usually a sign of bad weather but that did not apply today.
Nicol was the only player to break the par of 72 over the late Dave Thomas's creation. He returned a 70 (35-35) with the help of an eagle 3 at the second where he chipped in from about 15 yards.
The first of only two bogeys he had all day came at the fourth.
He birdied the 12th (drive, wedge, 3ft putt), the 14th (three-wood, 52degree wedge, 10ft putt) and the 18th (35ft putt), dropping only one more shot - a three-putt 5 at the 17th.
Nicol was one of the late finishers and until he came in, Fraserburgh student and amateur Gordon Munro had led for several hours with a par-matching 72.
Another amateur from the Broch, which made it three out of three at the top of the leaderboard, Justin Duff, who has a +2 rating, also came in late to share second place on 72.
Sean Lawrie (Portlethen) birdied the last three holes after starting with a double bogey 6. He shared fourth place on 73 withChristopher Lamb (Newmachar) - whose front-nine 34 was the day's best - and Alan Stuart, a staff pro from the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre.
Stuart had a double bogey 6 at the 17th.

NOTE FROM JOINT-SEC DAVE WILSON
Once again not all cards were returned today. It is very important even if you have a No Return. The score, including No Returns, MUST be put into computer. so that we can keep a tally.
It would be very helpful if you can call on Tuesday morning if you need to cancel your tee time for Aboyne.
In that way your tee time for next Wednesday can be allocated to someone else, unlike today when NINE people just did not turn up.
PHONE the NE Alliance mobile phone on Tuesdays to do this and also to reserve one of the free times on the above list..

thank you,

FOX BEATS GRAY IN PLAY-OFF FOR FOUR-FIGURE PRO PRIZE AT BRORA

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Colin@scottishgolfview.com

PGA Cup player Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf) beat Stephen Gray (Hayston) in a sudden-death play-off for the first prize of £1,103 in the Tain-Brora 36-hole Challenge today.
Over the second and final round at Brora, like Tain a par-70 lay-out, Fox shot a two-under 68 to a three-under final tally of 137 which Gray matched with a 67 at Brora. Fox (left) and Gray are pictured above, courtesy of Robin Wilson.
Fox won the play-off at the first hole with a par to score his eighth win of the season and boost his tournament earnings for the year to £26,763.
Gray had driven into the rough on the right of the first fairway and from a difficult lie went over the green onto the back fringe from where he took three more to get down. Fox was about ten feet away in two shots and safely two-putted for his win.
Gray earned £763 for second place.
Chris Kelly (Cawder), one of the five joint overnight leaders on 68, finished third on 138 with a 70 at Brora. He earned £605.
Best score of the day was a four-under 66 from Paul Affleck, which will be recognised as a course record after the extension of Brora's 11th hole into a par five since last year's  winner David Patrick set a pro record of  63.
Affleck finished tied 12th overall on 141.

MARVELLOUS WIN FOR SENIOR SCOTS OVER EURO CHAMPS IRELAND

Scotland scored a marvellous win over European champions Ireland on the second day of the Senior Men's Home Internationals golf tournament over the Royal Co Down GC links at Newcastle, Northern Ireland today (Wednesday).

Then Lindsay Blair added to the Irish anguish when he knocked off the Irish No 2, Arthur Pierse by 4 and 3.
Ireland got one back when Maurice Kelly beat Alan O'Neill, also by 4 and 3.
The advantage swung one way and another in the final three matches, with the KO blow being delivered by Scotland captain John Fraser, who defeated Tom Cleary on the 18th green by two holes.

Florida-based Swede Henrik Stenson jumped two spots to fourth in the latest Official World Golf Ranking following his US PGA Tour Championship victory at East Lake.
It's been a meteoric rise in the rankings for the newly crowned FedEx Cup champion.
Stenson was No. 113 prior to his victory at the 2012 South African Open and No. 230 at an earlier point in 2012. He cracked the top 50 after a T-2 finish at the Shell Houston Open this season and moved from 10th to sixth after his victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship three weeks ago.
Also climbing the rankings is young Jordan Spieth, who moved from No. 30 to No. 21 after tying for second in Atlanta.
Going the other way, however, is Rory McIlroy. The one-time World No. 1 dropped from fourth to sixth after failing to qualify for the playoff finale.
Despite Stenson's meteoric rise, overall the Americans are reclaiming the upper echelon of the World Rankings from the Europeanas with Tiger Woods, of course, at No 1.
Remember the pundits who, at the lowest point of Tiger's marital troubles, said he would never rise again, never win tournaments again, never win a Major again. The only one that has come to pass is that he has never won a Major again ... but give him time1
