BOURDY'S BIRDIE HAT-TRICK OVER FINAL HOLES WINS WALES OPEN

FROM THE BBC SPORT WEBSITE
Frenchman Gregory Bourdy, a former winner of the Scottish youths title as an amateur, produced a brilliant finish to win the Wales Open at Celtic Manor, the first qualifying event for next year's Ryder Cup.
The world number 173 birdied each of his final three holes to beat overnight leader Peter Uihlein by two shots and take his fourth European Tour title.
Bourdy, 31, finished eight under par after a four-under final round of 67.
"It was an amazing round. I'm going to remember this finish for a long time," he said
American Uihlein finished two shots behind after losing his commanding overnight lead.
Dane Soren Kjeldsen was a shot further back in third, while England's John Parry tied for fourth on three under. Uihlein began the day three shots clear of Bourdy and another Frenchman, Thomas Levet, but had fallen two behind after playing his first 10 holes in two over par.
The 24-year-old regained the advantage when Bourdy, whose last European Tour win was at the 2009 Hong Kong Open, bogeyed the 13th and 14th, a birdie on the 15th taking him back into the lead.
However, Bourdy holed a curling 40ft birdie putt on the 16th and another from 12ft on the 17th to reclaim the lead, only for Uihlein to respond with a lengthy birdie putt of his own on the 17th.
Another birdie looked unlikely on the par-five 18th when Bourdy's approach came up 30ft short of the hole, but the 31-year-old promptly holed that putt as well to finish eight under par.
Watching from the fairway behind, Uihlein knew he now needed to match that birdie to force a play-off, but sent his putt six feet past the hole and missed the return to finish with a bogey.

DRAMATIC DAAN WINS NORTHERN IRELAND CHALLENGE PLAY-OFF

REPORT FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Daan Huizing confirmed his reputation as one of European golf’s hottest talents with a brilliant play-off win over former Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson at the Northern Ireland Open Challenge presented by Clannah and XJET.
Having begun the final round with a six-shot lead, and having performed magnificently for the first three rounds, the tournament looked to be a foregone conclusion but Huizing struggled in the swirling winds at Galgorm Castle Golf Club, dropping four strokes on the front nine to allow Wilson and a host of other players back into the tournament.
As the leaders reached the turn, Huizing found himself in a four-way tie for the lead with Wilson, James Heath, and Jamie McLeary but he rediscovered the smooth rhythm that had served him so well for the first 54 holes to pick up birdies on the 12th and 14th holes to move to clear of the pack.
But the drama was nowhere near over as Wilson birdied the 17th to get within one of Huizing and set the clubhouse target of 13 under par, with McLeary and Heath finishing the day on 12 under.
A par five at the last would have been good enough to give Huizing the prize but he lost his drive in the thick rough and was forced to play his provisional ball from the middle of the fair way. Huizing’s fourth shot was 40 yards short of the green, leaving him needing an up and down to secure a play-off.
With the adrenaline pumping, and a crowd of over 8,000 people surrounding the 18th, he hit a poor pitch and left himself a 25 foot putt to keep his hopes alive.
“I suppose at that moment I proved how much I really wanted this victory,” said Huizing. “I hit a really good putt and once I had made it I knew I still had a chance.”
A perfect drive at the first extra hole put the Dutchman in pole position as Wilson found the bunker off the tee. But the English played a fine second from the sand, leaving himself 50 yards short of the green in two, while Huizing found the putting surface in two with a fine three wood approach.
Wilson’s chip stopped ten feet short before Huizing rushed his eagle chance eight feet past the hole.
“I was pretty sure that he was going to make his putt so I kind of felt I had to make mine. When he missed I just knew that was the moment for me and thankfully I managed to ignore the shakes and make a good stroke and get the ball on line.
“This has just been an amazing week. The tournament has been great and to play in front of so many people was really cool. Playing in front of crowds like this makes the win even more special, and hopefully I can keep playing well and win a card for The European Tour next year.”
Huizing is certainly in position to do that. His victory, worth €27,500, propelled him to sixth place in the Rankings, with the top 15 players winning European Tour cards at the end of the season.

JACK'S THE LAD - THIRD TIME WINNER THIS SEASON
AND HE TAKES THE SGU ORDER OF MERIT TITLE

Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) carried over the form that won him the North of Scotland Open the previous weekend, to win the South East District Open at West Linton today (Sunday) - and clinch the SGU Order of Merit title after the final counting event.
It was McDonald's third 72-hole win of the season. He had earlier won the Tennant Cup.
McDonald posted rounds of 71, 68, 70 and 71 for a total of four-over 280 over the par-69 lay-out.

His only serious rival for the Order of Merit crown, James White (Lundin) finished seventh on 286.
McDonald won by a shot from halfway leader Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) who had scores of 67, 69, 73 and 72.
There was a tie for third place on 282 between Matthew Clark (Kilmarcolm) and third-round leader Craig Ross (Kirkhill).

GENERAL MONTGOMERIE VICTORIOUS BY SIX SHOTS AT THE DUKE'S

COLIN MONTGOMERY - A WINNER AGAIN. Picture by courtesy of Getty Images(c)

REPORT FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS

Six years and 55 days after his last professional victory, Colin Montgomerie returned to the winner’s circle with a magnificent six shot triumph at the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters.

The Scot tamed the Duke’s Course at Woburn Golf Club this week as a professional two under par 70 on Sunday sealed an aggregate total of ten under par 206, a cheque for €52,299 and a first title in just his third start on the European Senior Tour since turning 50 in June.

Montgomerie’s brilliance relegated Spain’s Miguel Angel Martin to a distant runner-up alongside England’s Paul Wesselingh, who surged up the leaderboard with a best-of-the-week 66, on four under par.

Englishman Carl Mason, who was bidding for a third Senior Masters title this week, signed for a two over par 74 to finish in a tie for fourth alongside Scotland’s Ross Drummond.

Montgomerie’s ascent to the Senior Tour had been much-anticipated after a prolific career on The European Tour which yielded 31 titles and a record eight Order of Merits, and he has not taken long to rediscover the form that saw him dominate European golf during the 1990s and early 2000s.

After beginning the day three clear of his nearest challenger Mason, Montgomerie got off to the perfect start when he got up and down from a greenside bunker for birdie at the long first before delivering the coup de grâce at the par five fifth, where a stunning four iron to six feet set up an eagle three and a lead that was never challenged.

A third gain of the day followed at the tenth and despite a pair of bogeys on the home straight Montgomerie completed a highly impressive 41st professional victory in front of record Woburn crowds that numbered more than 23,000 across the week.

“It feels great,” said an elated Montgomerie. “Anybody with any competitive blood in them knows that it is nice to win, to come out on top.

“This course has suited me down to the ground for years. I had a couple of great finishes on the main Tour – the Junior Tour, as I now call it – so it’s nice to come back here and finally win.”

It is Montgomerie’s first professional win since the 2007 European Open at the K Club and sees him become the third rookie in a row to win in 2013 after Denmark’s Steen Tinning captured the Berenberg Masters and Spaniard Santiago Luna returned victorious at the SSE Scottish Senior Open two weeks ago.

“I’ve said it before but it is like a new lease of life turning 50 in golf,” he continued. “I can’t think of any other sports where you take a new step on in your career at such an age and to have such a fine Tour, such an excellent brand, as the Senior Tour as part of that is brilliant so all credit to them for that.”

After starting the day tied for 18th place, 2012 Rookie of the Year Wesselingh vaulted 16 places on Sunday thanks to a fine 66 that saw the 51 year old Liverpudlian find four birdies in six holes from the fifth hole followed by an eagle at the long 11th.

I’ve nailed it today, I’ve just played really well,” said Wesselingh, whose fine finish bolstered his standing of second in the Order of Merit.
“My son Ryan caddied for me this week and I think we finally sussed the greens out today. I’ve got three boys and they all take it in turns but I think he’s enjoyed it this week – especially the first round playing with Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam.
“I’m not really trying to think about winning the Order of Merit yet, there are a lot more events to come,” he continued. “But what I am really concentrating on is being top six to try to get into the US Senior Open again so today was massive in terms of that goal.”

It was not the day that two-time Senior Masters winner Mason had wished for, meanwhile, as he had to wait until the final hole of the day for his first birdie after a round featuring three bogeys left him in a tie for fourth place alongside Drummond.

Mason could, though, take the consolation of securing his 90th top ten finish in what has been a staggering Senior Tour career thus far.

KELLY'S SUNDAY BEST WINS HIM KERR CLASSIC AT DUMFRIES

Cawder’s Chris Kelly, pictured above by Cal Carson Golf Agency, put together an inward half of five-under-par 29 – even with a bogey at the last – which helped him to win the top prize of £2,323 by four strokes in the Kerr Investment Classic 36-hole pro-am at Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club over the weekend.

Kelly followed up his Saturday par round of 70 with a brilliant seven-under-par round of 63  - easily the best of the day - in a rising wind and his clubhouse target of 133 stood unchallenged by the end of the day.

Kelly started well with a birdie at the first and after bogeying the second he got in the red figures again with an eagle 3 at the long fifth.

Then he went quiet for a few holes before, after turning in two-under 34,  bursting into life again with birdies at the 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th before that closing bogey which never looked like being costly as the overnight leaders could not get near him.

Scottish champion Greig Hutcheon had a solid 70 for 137 to finish runner-up to add £1,595 to his top of the money table account plus Order of Merit points to boot.

Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills) (70-68) and David Orr  (Mearns Castle) (67-71) tied for third place on 138. They earned £1,064 each.

The Kerr Investments No 1 team of Jim Kerr (handicap 13), Raymond Kerr (13) and Carol Armitt (19) won the two-day pro-am net event with a total of 31 under par 249. Stephen Gray (Hayston) was their pro on Day 1 while David Orr was their pro for the second round.

MURRAY NAYSMITH WINS PAUL LAWRIE JUNIOR JUG AT BLAIRGOWRIE

                                       PAUL LAWRIE and MURRAY NAYSMITH

Murray Naysmith (Marriott Dalmahoy), the overnight leader, consolidated his position to win the Paul Lawrie Junior Jug competition over three rounds at Blairgowrie's Rosemount Course.

Very windy conditions over the two days made scoring tricky for the 72 players in the starting field and the 41 who made the cut to play the final day.
Naysmith posted a final aggregate of 212 - four strokes ahead of runner-up Stuart Easton with Calum Fyfe third on 217.
Stephen Roger, who plays off three at Cruden Bay, won the handicap event with a net total of 213 (-3) to win by a couple of shots from Brad Bannerman and Lewis Reid (215)
Paul Lawrie was also in action at an early hour, playing as a marker at just after 8am for Ray Gordon.

BERNARD GALLACHER STILL IN CRITICAL CONDITION IN HOSPITAL

  FROM THE BBC SPORT WEBSITE
Former European Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher remains in a "critical" condition in hospital.
The 64-year-old, who was taken ill on Thursday, is understood to have a heart problem and will spend a fourth night at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Nephew and fellow golfer Stephen said: "My family is in disarray at the moment. It is obviously a worrying situation. We are all anxious."
NHS Grampian will provide an update on Monday morning.
Renton Laidlaw, the veteran broadcaster and journalist who has known Gallacher for more than 50 years, told BBC Radio Scotland's Golf Show on Sunday:
"I was up at Aberdeen on Saturday. Bernard is obviously in a critical condition and he is sedated but he has had a quiet night.
"I think he is a fit person, he doesn't drink, he keeps himself fit, he doesn't smoke and hopefully he will make a good recovery.
"We don't know just what brain damage there might be but we are keeping our fingers crossed that it's not too bad."
Current European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, currently competing in the Wales Open, said: "I'm thinking about him like everyone else and hoping he will pull through.
"He is a guy I know pretty well, he lives near me in Sunningdale, and I have played golf with him many times.
"I've spoken to him about the Ryder Cup captaincy and he is a mine of information. He was captain three times and between him and Tony Jacklin they have more experience than anyone. My thoughts are with him and the family."
