GLORIOUS SUNSHINE FOR HAGGS CASTLE'S FINALS DAY

In the Haggs Castle men's Club Championship final (on right, presenting the Trophy to Chris is Ricky Webster, Club Captain) over 36 holes.
Chris Dunbar who joined the Club this year was playing Craig Morrison the Centenary Club Champion in 2010.
The match was extremely close all the way with Craig getting to the turn in the afternoon round in 34, 2 under, but Chris withstood the pressure and from the 9th fired 4 birdies in about 5 holes to take a 2 up lead into the closing stages.
Craig's approach shot at 16 was close but Chris holed a good putt from outside Craig to force him to hole to keep the match going which he did.  Chris played the 17th regulation to close out the match to become Club Champion in 2013.

In the Junior Championship final over 36 holes, Aran Sinclair, already Junior Champion at Bearsden GC, was playing David Lamond.  Again a very close contest with David getting to 3 up during the second round but being pegged back by Aran who was 1 down playing the last.  A half in par 5s en
sured David (pictured left) became Junior Champion for the first time.

JENNIFER MACK LADIES CHAMPION FOR 8th TIME
In the Ladies Championship final  many times winner and finalist Jennifer Mack was playing 2009 Club Captain Audrey Sturgess over 18 holes.
Audrey took an early 2 hole lead but Jennifer turned this round and coming down 17 Jennifer was 2 up.
Jennifer was in a bit of trouble in the front bunker and Audrey won the hole to take the match down the 18th.  Jennifer played 2 excellent shots to the front fringe while Audrey was in the greenside bunker left in 3.  Jennifer played a nice chip and Audrey was unable to get her birdie allowing Jennifer to win the Championship for the 8th time.

FLEETWOOD BEATS GALLACHER. GONZALEZ IN GLENEAGLES PLAY-OFF

GLENEAGLES REPORT BY EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS

Tommy Fleetwood claimed his maiden European Tour title in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, prevailing in a play-off with home favourite Stephen Gallacher and Ricardo Gonzalez on an action packed final day in Scotland.
The 18th hole at Gleneagles, which could be the decisive setting at next year’s Ryder Cup, provided plenty of drama, with Gallacher holing a 15ft eagle putt in regulation play to finish on 18 under par, moments after compatriot Scott Henry had done the same in front of the packed home galleries to set the previous clubhouse target of 17 under par.
Gallacher, who had made a remarkable recovery from a treble bogey seven on the 11th hole, then watched as joint overnight leaders Fleetwood and Gonzalez both birdied the closing hole to match his total and take the tournament into a play-off for the fourth time in its 15 year history.
It was  22 year old Fleetwood who managed to make birdie again at the first extra hole, two putting from the back edge of the green after Gallacher failed to get up and down from the greenside bunker and Argentine Gonzalez three-putted from over the back of the green.
For Fleetwood, the transition was complete from the youngest winner of the European Challenge Tour Rankings in 2011 to European Tour champion two years later.
“It is unbelievable,” he said. “I've been out here on Tour a while and I haven't even had a top five the last two years.  And then all of a sudden you come out with a win.
“I don't know how it happened, but it just seemed to come a bit easier this week.  I was nervous as hell on the first green today, and after that, I felt pretty calm and I felt fine within myself.  It was so tight, you couldn't really do much. It was a bit claustrophobic on the leaderboard.
“To win is just absolutely amazing.  You look at all the winners on Tour, and I'll admit, I'm so jealous when somebody wins, but finally it's my turn.”
Fleetwood had gone into the final round leading a European Tour event for the first time and he made a steady if unspectacular start, birdieing the second hole before a run of seven straight pars. He then bogeyed the tenth and 15th holes to slip back, before a superb eagle on the 16th hole propelled him right back into contention.
With Gallacher leading in the clubhouse after a superb 67, Fleetwood produced only the second birdie of his round to sign for a two under par 70, the same as Gonzelez, before prevailing in the play-off to collect the €272,272 first prize, with his parents and, heart-warmingly, the family dog Maisy on hand to celebrate.
“She (Maisy) comes to every event in Scotland, because dogs can do what they want in Scotland, can't they?” he said. “She came to any amateur event I've played in Scotland and at county level. She was always the one supporting.”
It is only 13 months until Gleneagles hosts The 2014 Ryder Cup, and Fleetwood’s performance outlined his potential, with European Captain among the interested observers at the Perthshire venue.
“I wish the points started a week earlier, but there are a lot of players that are a long way ahead of me in the running for a Ryder Cup spot,” said Fleetwood.
“All I can do is keep trying to improve every week and keep playing as good as I can.  I finished the season off well last year, and I like the couple of courses that are coming next.
“The Ryder Cup is a long way off.  It's obviously a lifetime goal and something I want to do, but whether that's next year or in three years' time or five years' time, it doesn't really matter as long as I can play and achieve a goal.  Next year would be lovely, that's for sure.”
While Gallacher, winner earlier in the season at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, and four-time European Tour champion Gonzalez shared second place, rising Scot Henry carded a closing 67 for his first top five finish on The European Tour, sharing fourth place with Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, who signed for 68 after missing a birdie chance on the last to make the play-off.

JACK McDONALD WINS NORTH OPEN STROKE-PLAY BY SEVEN

of Peter Abbott of the North District SGU
Jack McDonald was an impressive winner by a record seven-stroke margin of the North of Scotland Amateur Stroke-play Open for the David Blair Trophy at Nairn Golf Club today (Sunday).
The Kilmarnock Barassie man had rounds of 69, 66, 73 and 66 for a 14-under-par total of 274.
His second-round 66 for nine-under 135 gave him an eight-stroke halfway lead which was reduced to three by Scott Borrowman over the third round in which the Dollar man peaked with a 68 to the leader's 73.
But McDonald, the SGU Order of Merit winner in 2011 and lying second to James White (Lundin) before the Nairn event, surged clear again with a repeat of his brilliant six-under-par 66 in the closing round.
So Jack won the David Blair Trophy and a £400 prize voucher by the biggest margin of strokes in the history of the tournament.
Borrowman, from the Dollar club, finished runner-up on 281 with rounds of 72, 71, 68 and 70. His voucher was worth £300.
James White was four shots behind Borrowman in third place on 285 with scores fo 72, 72, 69 and 72 to receive a £200 voucher.
Craig Ross (Kirkhill and Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm) both finish on level par 288. Fourth place voucher of £150 went to Ross with the better last round, a 70 to Clark's 71.
Irishman Eugene Smith from Ardee finished sixth on 290, a shot ahead of Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) - third in the Order of Merit table before the event -  and two better than the highest placed North finisher, Jordan Milne (Elgin) on 292.
The CSS was 74 for every round.
Fog delayed the start of the last day's play by an hour.

DANTORP TIMES RUN TO WIN ROLEX TROPHY CHALLENGE

Jens Dantorp with the Rolex Trophy. Picture by courtesy of Rolex.
REPORT FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Jens Dantorp hailed the “greatest day” of his life after capturing his maiden Challenge Tour title at the Rolex Trophy, so keeping the trophy in Swedish hands following Kristoffer Broberg’s victory last year.

Inspired by a good luck text from his friend and compatriot on Saturday night, Dantorp returned to Golf de Genève on Sunday morning to complete the protracted final round and promptly overhauled the overnight leader José-Filipe Lima with a brace of birdies from the 14th hole.

After closing with a trio of pars to sign for a round of 70 and better by one the clubhouse target of 17 under par set by Spain’s Adrian Otaegui, Dantorp faced an anxious wait to see if Lima – playing in the group behind – could birdie the last to force a play-off.

Lima’s approach pitched close to the pin, but agonisingly rolled back down the slope to leave the Portuguese facing a 30-foot putt to take the elite 42-man tournament into extra time.

In the event, Lima left his birdie attempt short, and missed the subsequent par putt to slip back into a share of third place on 16 under par with Spaniard Jordi Garcia-Pinto, who closed with a best-of-the-day round of 66.

Dantorp receives a brand new Rolex watch and a cheque for €26,000, which moved the Swede 27 places up the Rankings to 11th and within sight of joining Broberg on The European Tour next year.

He said: “I was quite nervous out on the course today, but probably the most nervous moment was watching Jose’s putt on the last hole! This win just means so much to me – it’s probably the greatest day of my life. Hanging around in the clubhouse for seven hours for the rain to stop yesterday was torture. I’ve never really been in this position out here before, so a lot was going through my mind and when we eventually got out on the course, I wasn’t focused.

“But this morning, I felt much more relaxed. I told myself last night to keep calm and to stay in the moment, because I wanted the win so badly that I was trying too hard and getting too emotional. The birdies on 14 and 15 were the key, because I’d missed a couple of chances early on, so I was starting to think that maybe it wasn’t going to be my day. But those two settled me down, and in the end they made the difference.

“It feels great to follow Kristoffer in winning this tournament. He sent me a message last night to ask if I was winning, and even though I was one shot back I told him that I was going to win, because that is the attitude he has. I’m just glad I was right! I’ve won a couple of titles on the Nordic League, but nothing comes close to this.”

In contrast, Lima was left to rue a number of missed opportunities, but he could at least console himself with a cheque for €11,650 and a fourth top three finish of the season.

The 31 year old, who closes the gap to American Brooks Koepka at the top of the Challenge Tour Rankings to €27,581, said: “I played fantastically again today, didn’t miss a single shot but didn’t hole a single putt.

“I should have won easily, but if you don’t hole putts you’re not going to win tournaments. It’s incredibly frustrating, but that’s life. I couldn’t be happier with the way I’m playing from tee to green, so if I can keep it up and start holing a few putts, I’m sure I’m going to win one soon.”

The same applies to Otaegui, whose runner-up finish was his second of the season, having also missed out by a single stroke at Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge.

The Spaniard, who climbed from 24th to sixth place in the Rankings, said: “I’m obviously very happy with the week. I played very well from tee to green, just didn’t make enough putts. But I can’t really complain with a second place finish. There are some big events coming up, including Kazakhstan, so I feel like my game is coming together at just the right time.”

NEW BOY RIEGGER LEADS BY THREE ON US CHAMPIONS TOUR

FROM THE US CHAMPIONS TOUR WEBSITE
SNOQUALMIE, Washington (AP) -- John Riegger shot an 8-under 64 on Saturday to open a three-stroke lead after the second round of the Champions Tour's Boeing Classic.
The 50-year-old Riegger, making his fifth career start on the 50-and-over tour, had an eagle for the second straight day and added seven birdies and a bogey to finish at 11 under at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.

Tom Lehman, Bernhard Langer, Kirk Triplett and Bobby Clampett were tied for second. Lehman had a 67, Langer and Triplett shot 68, and Clampett had a 69.
Riegger pitched in for the eagle on the 590-yard, par-5 15th hole.
"It wasn't anything fancy," Riegger said. "It was just a straight-forward pitch. It landed just on the green and rolled in just like putt."
He said he no idea at the time that shot pushed him into the lead
"I don't look at it (scoreboard)," Riegger said. "If I just go out there and play the way I'm capable of playing, things will take care of themselves. It's not going to do any good to worry about what someone else is doing."
Riegger won twice on the Web.com Tour, the last in 2010.
"That tour helped me prepare for out here than the regular tour just because you have to go low and keeping going low because there's so many good players," Riegger said. "As for my fifth event, these guys have been beating up on me for 30 years. We still have one more day to go and there's a lot of great players out here. There's some guys out here capable of shooting 63 or 64 on this golf course."
Langer, the 2010 winner, chipped in for eagle in the 529-yard, par-5 eighth.
"Those were three beautiful shots for the eagle," Langer said. "Then I hit it into the water next hole (for bogey). ... It's not over. Three shots sounds like a great deal. On this golf course, it can be gone in a hole or two. There is a lot of golf to be played yet. I think whoever is within five shots has a chance. I've won tournaments when I was seven shots back."
Lehman birdied his final three holes.
Hometown favorite Fred Couples was 5 under after a 70.
First-round leader Bart Bryant, the Dick's Sporting Goods Open winner last week in Endicott, N.Y., followed his opening 66 with a 75 to drop into a tie for 20th at 3 under.
Scott Hoch withdrew because of an ankle injury.

The Barclays at the Liberty National Golf Club is the first event of the end-of-season FedEx Cup play-offs on the US PGA Tour.
The top 125 players on the list qualified for the tournament and the leading 100 players on the points list after Sunday's final round will advance to next week's event, the Deutsche Bank Classic in Boston.
From there the top 70 will play in the BMW Championship in Illinois and then the top 30 will compete for the top prize of $10m in the concluding Tour Championship in Atlanta from 19-22 September.
McIlroy, whose victory in last year's BMW Championship remains his most recent on the PGA Tour, has yet to win in 2013 and had three double bogeys in a mixed opening round of 71.
But he made an excellent start to round two with five birdies in his first eight holes and when he played the final two holes of his round on Saturday morning he added another birdie at the 18th.
US Open champion Justin Rose is also in the group at six under, having collected four birdies in five holes on his front nine on Friday before two bogeys in the four holes he had to complete on Saturday morning.
Kuchar, 35, who has won the WGC World Match Play and the Memorial tournaments this year, had five holes of his round to finish and did not make a par at any of them.
His first shot of the day was a 30-foot birdie putt, he followed that with a poor tee shot that led to bogey, before two short birdie putts and another wayward drive on the 18th for a bogey.
