Jordyn Rhind (Kingsfield) is hot on the trail of following in brother Lee's footsteps as winner of a national golf title.
He leads by two shots at the halfway stage of the Golf Data Lab Scottish youths championship which will end with two rounds at Lanark Golf Club on Sunday.
Daniel Eardley (Liberton), overnight leader after the first round, slumped from a two-under 68 to a nine-over 79 in his second circuit.
Eardley had double bogeys at the fourth and 10th on his way to a halfway total of 147 - seven behind Jordyn Rhind.
Brother Lee won the Scottish boys' stroke play title in 1997 at Downfield.
Jordyn posted a second-round 71, despite a double bogey 6 at the 13th. Birdies at the first, fourth and 12th helped to repair the damage.
Rhind, with a level par tally of 140, leads the 44 players with aggregates of 150 or better who qualify to contest the final 36 holes on Sunday.
Cawder's Craig Chalmers is one of the group sharing second place on 142. He followed up his opening 69 with a 73.
Two more Scots - Jordan Milne (Elgin) and Charlie MacNeal (Prestwick) are mong those on the 143 mark so a fair chance that the title and trophy will stay in Scotland.
Paul Lawrie's son Craig Lawrie (Deeside) had three double bogeys - at the fourth, 14th and 15th, in compiling a 76 for 147 which qualified with ease in the end.
So too did Lyle McAlpine (Royal Dornoch), winner of the title two years ago. He had a 77 for 149, which looked at one stage like being one shot too many but the scores rose at the afternoon progressed.
