ADAM SCOTT BEATS ANGEL CABRERA IN PLAY-OFF FOR MASTERS' GREEN JACKET

Adam Scott, the Aussie who blew his chances of winning the Open championship with a dramatic collapse over the last few holes, is a major winner less than a year later.
He caught long-time leader Angel Cabrera to tie with the Argentininian on nine-under-par for 72 holes. Then Scott holed a birdie putt at the second extra hole to win the play-off.
Cabrera was two shots clear with fewer than nine holes to play.
Cabrera and Scott were both eight under par after 16 holes. Both birdied the 18th hole in regulation play.
Scott is the first Australian to win the Masters. Compatriot Greg Norman once famously lost a huge lead to Nick Faldo. It was an excellent tournament for the men from Down Under with Jason Day finishing third on seven under and Marc Leishman joint fourth with Tiger Woods on 283.
And so Woods' two-shot penalty did not make the difference between winning and losing. He closed with a 70 to finish FOUR strokes behind Scott and Cabrera.

SCOTTISH JUNIOR TOUR REPORT FROM TWO-DAY EVENT AT BROADLEES CENTRE, STRATHAVEN

FROM WALTER BURNS
Scottish Junior Golf Tour
Here are the results from the  Junior Tour competitions at Broadlees Golf Centre, Strathaven, on Friday and Saturday.
Broadlees is a fairly new golf course opened in 2009. Like Robert Arkley’s Kingsfield in Linlithgow, it is a farm diversification. Owned by Robert and Barbara Anderson, they have built a nine-hole course with fast draining fairways and USGA-standard greens which makes it very playable all year round.
Broadlees also features a covered driving range and teaching bays and with a short game practice area and academy course planned, is well on its way to being a centre of excellence in the West of Scotland.
Due to the large numbers wishing to take part the event was held over two days. Levels 3, 4 and 5 on Friday and level 2 on Saturday. Under 18 Order of Merit leader Chris McLean (Clydebank) continued his good form with the best score on Friday, three under par 69. Lewis Irvine(Kirkhill) won the Under 13’s on Saturday with 75.
Junior Tour Coach, Kendal McWade began Saturdays event with a clinic on how to develop golf skills through exploration. Part of a series of clinics and seminars he is working on with sports development scientist Dave Gecric from the University of Lancaster.

The handicap prize was won on Friday by Tod Bannerman (Strathmore) with a nett 66 and on Saturday Toby Appleyard (Dalmahoy) and Calum Hughes (Hilton Park) shared with 64’s.
George Burns won the skill challenges on Friday for the first time in five years of trying.
Aamar Saleem (Ladybank) won the skill challenges on Saturday.
Thank you to Broadlees Professional Scott Robertson for all his help. Scott was so influenced by my badminton coaching many years ago that he took up golf.
Well done to all the Junior Tour boys at the Scottish Boys with nearly 80% getting through at least one round. This compares favourably with 72% last year, more than half of whom then got junior caps.

LIN WEN-TANG WINS SIXTH ASIAN TOUR TITLE AT SOLAIRE OPEN

NEWS RELEASE FROM ASIAN TOUR
Manila, April 14: Lin Wen-tang of Chinese Taipei lived up to his billing as the ‘Linsanity of Golf’, when he produced a heroic performance to win his long-awaited sixth Asian Tour title at the Solaire Open on Sunday.
Lin hit two remarkable shots on 17 and 18 from the woods for a one-over-par 73 to defeat Asian Tour rookie Richard T. Lee of Canada and Thammanoon Sriroj of Thailand by one stroke at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
Lee battled to a 69 for his best Asian Tour result while Thammanoon’s title hopes faded when he bogeyed 16 and 18 for a 73 at the inaugural US$300,000 full field Asian Tour event.
South Korea’s Wang Jeung-hun (69) finished a further shot back while Elmer Salvador (74) settled as the best placed Filipino in fifth position on the region’s premier Tour which is celebrating its 10th season.
Lin, who trailed Thammanoon heading into the 17th hole, hit his tee shot into the woods but calmly punched out with a nine iron (90 yards to the green) before sinking his second birdie of the day. His second shot on 18 hit the branches but he recovered with a miraculous low punch shot to set up a 15 feet par putt, which he holed for the win.
His dramatic feat on the last two holes mirrored his previous victory at the 2008 Hong Kong Open where he also needed to hit it over the trees to stay alive in a playoff with Rory McIlroy.
“I felt like I was at the Hong Kong Open once again! I think lady luck is really on my side to let me win this tournament. I told myself to stay focus and not think about anything else,” said Lin, who totalled three-under-par 285 to win US$54,000 and an Omega Aqua Terra watch.
“Thammanoon was in a tough position on 18 so I thought to myself if I bogeyed, I can at least still get into a playoff. I’m really very lucky to have made that winning putt. To me second or third place are the same. The only difference if you are the champion,” he smiled.
Lin, whose last Asian Tour victory was in 2009, lost his Tour card last season but bounced back to his best form after switching to a new putter at the start of the week.
“My brother Wen-hong advised me to change to this new PING putter and it worked for me. I’m glad I changed it. I’m 39 this year so being close to 40 is not an issue at all! I guess I shouldn’t be considered old because I can still win,” he added.
Thammanoon, a five-time Asian Tour winner, rued an unlucky break on the 18th hole when he needed to hit his third shot onto the green from an awkward position.
“I was very unlucky because I hit quite a good second shot but it landed on the edge of the slightly elevated green. My legs were inside the bunker but my ball was on the edge of the green. It wasn’t easy to chip it out,” lamented the 43-year-old.
Canadian Lee, who played at the 2007 US Open as an amateur, was delighted to claim his second top-10 finish in three Asian Tour appearances.
“It was very exciting because I had to watch the outcome from the clubhouse. I’m glad with how I played and will take this confidence into the few Asian Tour events,” said Lee.

HOWIE BEATS McCLUNG IN WEATHER-SHORTENED CRAIGMILLAR PARK OPEN TITLE PLAY-OFF

Last year's Scottish Under-18 boys' match-play Craig Howie (Peebles) scored his first big win since that SGU junior success at Murcar Links 12 months ago when he won a weather-hit Craigmillar Open today.
Howie and Kyle McClung (Wigtownshire County) tied on nine-under-par 201, Howie hitting peak form in awful weather with a 65 to mjake up a six-shot leeway on McClung, the halfway leader by two shots.
High winds and rain lashed the Edinburgh venue, forcing the organisers to scrub the fourth round.
But Howie and McClung did go out again in a sudden-death play-off to avoid a "dead-heat" in the first tournament of the Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit series.
Howie prevailed at the third extra hole.
Former Craigmillar Park Open champion Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm) finished third, two shots behind the play-off participants, with Stirlng student Mathias Eggenberger, a Swiss international team player and winner of the Scottish students' individual championship at Lossiemouth in the first week of April.
Defending champion Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie) hauled himself into contention with a second-round, seven-under-par 63 but finished five off the pace on 205.
Lowest score of the weekend was a 61 returned by Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) which gave him a two-shot lead at the end of the first round. The course record of 60 was not in danger because preferred lies were in operation.
Dunton went off the boil  and finished on 207.
Scott Borrowman (Dollar), winner of the Scottish Champion of Champions tournament at Leven the previous Sunday, miss the second-round cut by two shots with rounds of 70 and 72.
Other big names who failed to qualify for Sunday's action were Fraser McKenna (Balmore) (73-69 for 142) and Craig Watson (East Renfrewshire) (74-71 for 145).
