SOUTH KOREAN LADY PRO AGAIN RUNNER-UP ON SPANISH TOUR

For the second week in a row on the Spanish Evolve Tour, the same woman - South Korean Miss Byun Hyun Min - has finished second. Playing off slightly forward tees - about a 10 to 15% shorter course than her male opponents, Miss Min shot rounds of 72 and 74 for two over-par 146 in the Hacienda Riquelme Open in the south-east province of Murcia
She finished six shots behind the German winner, Florian Fritsch who had rounds of 66 and 764 for four-under 140.
Englishmen Gary King (76-71) and Alex Belt (73-74) tied for third place on 147.
Former Scottish youths champion and Stirling University graduate David Booth from Rotherham, now campaigning as a pro, finished fifth on 150 with scores of 78 and 72
Sorry we cannot give you a clue as to what the prize money allocation was because the Evolve Tour, like its predecesor, the Hi5 Tour does not make this information public on its website.
Pity, the Evolve Tour might attract more UK and Irish pros if they knew what the level of prizemoney was.

Matches are expected to begin in April, while money raised from the 2013 tournament will be donated to last year’s winners Xerox UK’s nominated charity.

SCOTS FIFTH IN SOUTH AFRICA'S TEN NATIONS CUP TOURNAMENT

FROM THE SGU WEBSITE
Scotland finished fifth overall at the prestigious Ten Nations Cup in South Africa, with Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie) and James White of Lundin posting top-10 finishes in the individual standings.
The Scots quartet recorded a four-round total of 22-under-par, 16 shots behind winners Australia. The four members of the SGU Men’s Performance Squad, who had tied for the lead with the Aussies after the first two rounds, finished ahead of Colombia, South Africa, Ireland and France.
White, meanwhile, fired a brilliant, flawless final round of six-under-par 66 to reach nine-under overall, a shot behind Robertson who tied for sixth. Three late bogeys blemished Robertson’s card, meaning he missed out on a place in the top five.
Fraser McKenna of Balmore was 20th overall at Kingswood Golf Estate in George, with Ross Bell (Downfield) 34th.
It came right down to the wire in the team contest, but Australia held their nerve and a spirited challenge from New Zealand to complete a historic victory at the inaugural Ten Nations Cup.
Brady Watt, Lucas Herbert, Ryan Ruffles and Geoff Drakeford combined to win the international team’s competition with a 38-under-par total of 826, finishing just a single shot clear of the Kiwis. England took third on 31 under, Argentina finished six shots back in fourth on 839.
Australia’s final round 205 was a combination of a 70 from Watt, a 69 from Drakeford and a superb six-under-par 66 from 16-year-old Herbert.
Team captain David Nable said the side was absolutely thrilled with the victory. “It’s incredible to have won the Ten Nations Cup and to have Australia’s name on the trophy,” he said. “We came over here with the hope of winning it. To have done it, is really incredible.
“It’s a very proud moment for the team. Brady shot that course record 62 on Thursday, our young 14-year-old Ryan Ruffles shot a seven-under-par on Friday and Lucas brought it home with his 66.
“We are looking forward to the SA Stroke Play next week. Hopefully Australia can have another good week in South Africa.”
Brady, who was only selected to the side last week, won the individual competition on 18-under, three shots clear of New Zealand’s Tyler Hodge and four ahead of Colombia’s Carlos Ernesto Rodriguez.Save
One of the two most prestigious tournaments on the local amateur circuit, the SA Stroke Championship has drawn entries from visiting nations, including a number of Scots. The tournament tees off at Oubaai Golf from February 12 to 15.

* Three Scots have sealed their places at next week's WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship. The world's top 64 players qualify for the knockout event in Arizona, meaning Paul Lawrie (32), recent Dubai Desert Classic winner Stephen Gallacher (57) and Richie Ramsay (61) will all tee-up.
Gallacher, whose Foundation sponsor the Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship, and Ramsay will both make their debuts in the tournament.

RENFREWSHIRE'S ROSS ROBERTSON NAMED IN SCOTLAND U16 SQUAD

RENFREWSHIRE GOLF UNION NEWS RELEASE

Ross Robertson, a member of Old Ranfurly Golf Club, was 14 years old when he won the Renfrewshire Golf Union’s junior stroke-play championship last May at Caldwell Golf Club.
Given that his opposition was aged up to 18 years old with a lot more experience of tournament play, it was evident that Ross (pictured) is a special talent.

During the rest of his 2012 season, his performances remained impressive and included winning his club’s junior championship and success at two junior open tournaments.  Now 15 and coached by George Boswell at Mearns Castle Golf Academy as one of the Scottish Golf Union Academy squad, his record has been recognised by the Scottish selectors.

Ross has been named as a member of the team which will represent Scotland at the under 16 Quadrangular Event to be held at Southerndown Golf Club in Wales in late March.  The competing countries are Holland, Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

The Gryffe High School pupil, whose handicap is 3, is delighted with his selection and, weather permitting, will continue to work on his game so that he is ready for the event.
Renfrewshire Golf Union President, Ian McCosh said “It is great that Ross’s performance last season has been spotted by the selectors and this will be an inspiration to the other Renfrewshire boys in the coaching squads.  We wish him all the best when the time comes”

SIMPLE FOR SIMON TO WIN PGAs OF EUROPE EVENT IN TURKEY

NEWS RELEASE FROM PGAs OF EUROPE
Wales’ Simon Edwards scored a four-stroke individual victory in the 2013 Kempinski “The Dome” Pro-Am after a closing two-under-par 69 at Antalya Golf Club in Belek, Turkey.
Conditions across the PGA Sultan and Pasha courses at Antalya GC had been up and down all week, but Edwards managed to come through the storms unscathed, carding a one-under par 213 total (70-74-69).
Edwards made a solid start in the penultimate nine holes arriving at the 10th hole lying one-over for the day and two-over for the tournament.
But fortune favoured the Welshman as he skillfully holed out from 123 yards for an eagle two, followed by six pars and a birdie-par finish to complete the 54-hole event as the only player under par.
I played nicely this week,” said Edwards of his winning play.  Obviously you have to play good to win…and it’s good to play against quality players and keep my game in shape – I’m a club pro so this helps to keep sharp.”
Edwards continues his fine form from the 2012 season having also won in Turkey at the PGAs of Europe 2012 BEKO Classic not far down the road at Cornelia Golf Club…
I enjoy Turkey because of the quality of the courses and appreciate what you guys at PGAs of Europe, John Dent and Mustafa at BEKO all do. It’s great to get the full set out here, Beko, Callister and now here at the Kempinski.
Second place went to overnight leader representing the PGA of GB and I, Chris Baron, whose closing 74 wasn’t quite enough to keep up with Edwards, giving him a three-over par finish (69-74-74).
Two-shots back from Baron was the PGA of Sweden’s Jonathan Fransson, who closed his tournament with a two-under 69, equalling Edwards for the low round of the day, culminating in a five-over total for the week (73-77-69).
The two-round Team competition culminated with Day 2’s low-scorer of the day, Chris Baron, leading his team of Andreas Martin, Nicola Just, and Professor Joachim Muller to victory in the four-ball better-ball tournament with a points total of 165.
