ENTRY LISTS OPEN FOR ALL PAUL LAWRIE LADIES TOUR EVENTS

Scotland's brand new golf tour - the Paul Lawrie Scottish Ladies Open Tour - is open for entries, even though the first two events, an Edinburgh back-to-back double-header of one-day, 18-hole events, are  not scheduled until Thursday, April 18 (at Marriott Dalmahoy East Course) and Friday, April 19 at Ratho Park.  

It's first-come, first-served as far as entries are concerned, with a 2-1 professional-amateur ratio, which means that if a venue cannot give us the courtesy of the course for more than 30 entries, then that field will be made up of 20 professionals and 10 amateurs.
We shall be operating reserve lists when we get
to the 30-entry mark. If any host clubs find they can give us extra tee times, then players will be called up off the reserve list in the order they went on it. 
If the amateurs (who must have a single-figure LGU handicap) don't take up all their reserve places, then they will go to the professionals.
The entry fee is the same for both categories - £50 each, all of which goes into the prize fund for that tournament.
The Paul Lawrie Golf Centre is donating £1,000 to the prizefunds of the first 13 one-day events and then doubling it to £2,000 for the last of the 14-event schedule, the  36-hole, two-day Tour Championship at Marriott Dalmahoy in October.   
An entry of 30 players will guarantee a prize fund of £2,500. 
You don't have to pay tournament entry fees until the draw for that particular tournament is made. So the best policy is to enter now before the word gets around the LETAS and WPGA memberships.

RICHARD STERNE WINS JOBURG OPEN BY SEVEN STROKES

Richard Sterne put his injury nightmare firmly behind him by cruising effortlessly to a first European Tour title in just over four years at the Joburg Open.
Ranked 29th in the world following successive victories on home soil in December 2008, Sterne, picture by courtesy of Getty Images(c), subsequently slipped out of the top 1000 after missing much of the 2010 and 2011 campaigns due to a form of arthritis in his back.
However, if the prospect of returning to the winners circle daunted the 31 year old, who led at the halfway stage in last week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic before finishing second to Stephen Gallacher, it did not show today as he surged clear of fellow overnight leader Trevor Fisher Junior.
The latter eagled the first to reach 21 under but subsequently faltered while Sterne - champion here five years ago - made serene progress, carding a quintet of birdies in an outward nine of 32 that gave him a five stroke cushion at the summit.
Sterne was untroubled thereafter and picked up three further shots en route to a wonderful closing 64 at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington GC.
At 27 under, he finished seven ahead of Charl Schwartzel, the only other player to win the Joburg Open on two occasions.
Schwartzel’s 66 left him one better off than Ricardo Santos, who matched the victor’s final round 64, Felipe Aguilar and George Coetzee.
Keith Horne, Thomas Aiken and Fisher Junior can look back on good weeks after ending the tournament on 18 under, yet they were all left trailing by the immaculate Sterne, who now leads the Race To Dubai.
“It was a pretty special day,” said Sterne upon receiving his trophy. “I played really good golf today and the whole week really.
“It’s quite tough coming from a good week into another week; you kind of do expect to play well. But I got off to such a good start on the West Course (which he played in round one before switching to the East Course for the remainder of the week) and felt comfortable.
“Having won here before I do enjoy the place and that’s why I keep coming back.”
Sterne will climb into the top 60 when the Official World Golf rankings are updated on Monday, but is determined not to rest on his laurels.
The leading 50 players qualify automatically for Major Championships - a huge incentive for a player seemingly back to his best.
“I’d like to get back into all the Majors - that’s where I want to be playing,” Sterne added.
“It’s a big year. I’ve got off to such a nice start so hopefully I can keep it going.”

David Drysdale broke 70 with every round in finishing T11 and earning 21,797 Euros. His scores were 68, 67, 68 and 68 for 16-under-par 271, 11 shots behind winner Sterne.
George Murray finished T29 on 280 (69-70-71-70) and earned 5,590 Euros.
Scott Henry earned 1,590 Euros for a T50 finish with scores of 69, 70, 71 and 70 for 280.

ROCCO LEADS ON US SENIORS TOUR DEBUT WITH COURSE RECORD 61

BOCA RATON, Florida (AP) -- Rocco Mediate shot an 11-under 61, setting a course record and building a three-shot lead over Tom Pernice Jr. heading into the final round of the Allianz Championship on Saturday.

Mediate is trying to become the 16th player to win his first start on the Champions Tour. He won six times on the US PGA Tour and is probably best remembered for losing a play-off to Tiger Woods in the 2008 U.S. Open.
Mediate had five consecutive birdies on the front nine, highlighted by a drive to the green at the par-4 seventh hole. He added three more birdies after the turn and closed with a birdie at the 17th and a 10-foot eagle at the 18th.
It was the lowest round of Mediate's career, one better than his 62 at Colonial in 2001, and it snapped the tournament record of 63 set by Craig Stadler in 2007. Mediate's total of 128 through two rounds was three better than the 36-hole mark of 131 shared by Tim Simpson and Tommy Armour III.
"It has to be my best round I've played in a long time," Mediate said. "Obviously, it was my lowest. I haven't made that many putts in a long, long time. Feeling that again was cool. I haven't felt that in a while."
Pernice also had a strong day on the Old Course at Broken Sound, posting a 65 after beginning the day in a tie for the lead. He lost ground in his pursuit of his second Champions Tour title, but he said he wasn't discouraged.
"Rocco shot 61, he should be leading," said Pernice, who was the last player to win his first start on the Champions Tour in 2009. "It wasn't that easy out there. I'm happy with where I'm at. I've got a chance tomorrow. That's why we play three days, not two."
Mediate stayed aggressive after the run of five consecutive birdies, and he said that was the key to his 61. He said he will have to continue that approach in the final round.
"You can't let down or take it off the pedal out here," he said. "You have to go crazy from the start to the finish, or you can't win. I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, but I just want to keep putting myself in contention."
Pernice knows he won't be the crowd favorite in the final round, but he's fine with that. He even agrees with it.
"It's nice to see him playing well," Pernice said of Mediate. "He's very entertaining, a great guy and he's going to be a great addition to the tour."
Bernhard Langer, who won here in 2010, shot a 67 and is five back at 11-under 133. David Frost (65) is alone in fourth at 135. 
England's Roger Chapman is T40 after rounds of 67 and 75 for 142.

JOHN CAMPBELL WINS NORTH ALLIANCE AT MORAY NEW

John Campbell was the only player to break par in Saturday's North Scottish Golfers' Alliance fixture over the New Course at Moray Golf Club, Lossiemouth. 
His one-under-par 69 included birdies at the second, third, 14th and 16th, which were partly offset with bogeys at the fourth, seventh and 11th as tricky surfaces made putting difficult for most of the 92 strong field. 
Campbell won by one shot from Scott Dingwall also of Grantown whose outward 33 equalled the best of the day. 
 It was Campbell's third win of the North Alliance 2012-2013 season, following successes at Garmouth and Kingston, and Kinloss,
and saw him improve his running total (best six scores) by seven shots in the Aggregate competition for the K M Cameron Trophy.
Campbell's best six scores now total 424, three behind the leader, Bryan Fotheringham.
