DAAN HUIZING TURNS PROFESSIONAL ON HIS 22ND BIRTHDAY
Today,
on his 22nd birthday, Daan Huizing announces that he turms
golfprofessional.
Huizing
is currently Europe’s number one amateur
golfer and is ranked third in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Daan
Huizing, who has almost finished his Economics degree at Utrecht University,
made a big impression in 2012 by winning two of the biggest tournaments in
British amateur golf within two months: the Lytham Trophy and the St. Andrews
Links Trophy. He won by record-margins of 11 strokes at Lytham and 14 strokes
at St. Andrews. He also posted a new record total of 23-under par at St.
Andrews.
During
2010, 2011 and 2012, Huizing won twelve national and international titles. In
2011 he won the International German Amateur title, followed by the Turkish
Amateur and the Argentine Amateur titles. Together with fellow Dutchman Robin
Kind, he won the Copa Simon Bolivar in Venezuela and the Copa Juan Tailhade in
Argentina.
In
2012, Daan Huizing represented Europe in the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy (vs.
Asia/Pacific) and the Palmer Cup (vs. USA). Europe won both matches and Daan
contributed both times by winning his singles matches.
In the
recently played KLM Open he won the trophy for low amateur after making the
‘cut’. His successes made Huizing the highest ever ranked Dutchman in the World
Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Daan
Huizing, a member of Golfsociety De Lage Vuursche,
feels he is ready for the next step in his golfing
career: “Especially the victories in South America at the end of last year gave
me a lot of confidence. I thought it couldn’t get much better than that, but
this year I was able to keep improving and now I’m just really looking forward
to compete on a weekly basis against the professionals. The KLM Open this year
was a nice test, and it only made me look forward even more. I’m very thankful
to the Dutch Golf Federation and my coach Tim Giles for all the help they have
given me over the years, because without them I could have never been where I
am now.”
Niels
Boysen, technical director of the Dutch Golf Federation, states: “We are going
to miss Daan! In recent years Daan has made a huge impact both nationally as
well as abroad. He has been a true ambassador for the Dutch Golf Federation and
for amateur golf in The Netherlands in general. Daan will keep working with his
current coaching staff so we are happy to say that he will not be out of sight.
We feel he is ready for the next step in his career.”
In the
next few weeks Daan Huizing will go to the European Qualifying School to try
and get a tour card for the next year. From November 7-10 he will play the
econd stage at Las Colinas Golf Club, Murcia, Spain. In preparation for this he
will make his professional debut on October 30th in an Evolve Pro
Tour tournament in Spain.
Early
December 2012, after the European Qualifying School, Daan Huizing will announce
his plans for 2013.
