NEWS RELEASE FROM THE PGA OF SCOTLAND

The 2012 Paul Lawrie Invitational 54 Hole Tournament takeS place at Deeside Golf Club this week, from the 17-21 September.
Sixty-five of the top players in the country, both Professional and Amateur, have been given the opportunity to compete against the host, in the week before he flies over to the United States to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup.
“It’s fantastic that Paul has shown his commitment to the tournament by confirming that his build-up to the showpiece event of the year includes playing at Deeside. I think everyone would have understood if he felt that his attention should be elsewhere, but the fact that he’s teeing it up adds an extra dimension to the tournament, and shows just how important the development of our young talent is to him.” remarked Michael MacDougall, Secretary of the PGA in Scotland
Six amateurs, including Paul’s son Craig, are in the field in an event designed to allow emerging talents to play alongside experienced players.
All the leading Tartan Tour players are present, as are Challenge Tour regulars David Law, Gavin Dear and Eric Ramsay, as well as rookie Professionals Kris Nicol, Jordan Findlay and Philip McLean. The last three are all supported by the Paul Lawrie Foundation.
Graeme Brown, the newly crowned Scottish Young Professionals Champion is in the field, along with a number of other aspiring PGA Professionals who have displayed good form over the course of the season and been rewarded with the chance to show their skills at a higher level.
The tournament gets underway at 8.30am on Tuesday. Paul is due to tee off at 10.30am along with Greig Hutcheon, who has regained the Scottish Order of Merit title that he last held in 2010 and Graham Fox, the reigning Scottish PGA Champion.
