SCOTT JAMIESON THREE BEHIND LEADER GRAEME STORM

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Graeme Storm has the opportunity to bring months of concern to an end by securing his European Tour card for another season at the KLM Open.
Storm is in pole position to triumph in Hilversum, having opened up a three-shot lead at the halfway stage, courtesy of bogey-free rounds of 63 and 66.
At 11 under, he leads by three from Scott Jamieson, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño and Peter Hanson, the latter one of three Ryder Cup players in contention; Nicolas Colsaerts shot 65 to reach five under, while Martin Kaymer - the winner here in 2010 - is a shot further back.
Although he is eager to secure a second European Tour title, Storm admits his primary focus is on securing a top 115 finish in The Race to Dubai.
He currently lies 114th, with the closing stages of the season fast approaching.
Asked if the order of merit had been on his mind, the Englishman replied: “Every day. It has been for the last three months. It is a big struggle missing so many cuts.
“I played nicely last week (en route to a share of 41st place in the Omega European Masters) and I was hoping to bring it here. At the moment I am and I just hope it continues.
“It makes a change to have all red on my card. Hopefully I used all the bogeys up last week in Crans.
“The goal for me still is to keep my card, even though I am leading. If someone comes through then so be it, I just need my card for next year.”
Together with Colsaerts, Fernandez-Castaño was the pick of the morning starters, carding four birdies and an eagle either side of a solitary dropped shot.
“I think I could have hit the ball better but my scoring was very good thanks to my short game,” said the Spaniard.
“Overall I am very happy with eight under after two rounds. This is one of my favourite courses of the year. It gets the best out of my game.”
Hanson made solid progress in a second successive 66, mixing 15 pars with two birdies and an eagle at the par five 12th.
Jamieson, who started at the tenth, roared into contention after picking up seven shots in the first 10 holes of his round, but lost his outright hold on second with a bogey at the sixth.
Pablo Larrazábal and Shiv Kapur shared fifth, two behind the second placed trio, while Ireland’s Simon Thornton finished with an eagle to match Jamieson’s 64 and move into the group at five under.
Defending champion Simon Dyson, a winner of this event on three occasions, was a shot worse off after a 66.

TADINI LEADS BY TWO IN RUSSIAN CHALLENGE CUP

REPORT BY NEIL AHERN
 EUROPEAN CHALLENGE TOUR PRESS OFFICER
Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: cid:image002.jpg@01CD8B58.8F24A9E0
Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: Description: cid:image001.jpg@01CD6A7C.DD7C1D00Alessandro Tadini continued the Italian dominance of the M2M Russian Challenge Cup as he overthrew his compatriot and first round leader Marco Crespi at the top thanks to a three under par second round of 69, which left him two shots clear on eight under.

In much tougher conditions at the stunning Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club, just outside Moscow, few managed to replicate the low scores of the opening day but Tadini was the only man to consolidate his place at the top end of the leaderboard to enter the weekend at the summit.

Crespi struggled to a five over par round of 77 while Norwegian Espen Kofstad, in tied second place with Tadini after the first day, also fell back after a three over par 75.

In their place emerged England’s Chris Lloyd, who launched himself into contention with a four under par round of 68 to move to six under alongside Mark Tullo of Chile, who would have held the outright lead had he not triple-bogeyed his final hole - the tenth.
Tadini flew straight out of the blocks with a birdie at the tenth hole, his first, and while a bogey at the 16th meant he reached the turn in level par, three birdies on the way home took him into the outright lead as he chases a second win in four weeks following his fourth career Challenge Tour victory at the recent ECCO Tour Championship hosted by Thomas Björn Mercedes-Benz. “I played really good today,” said Tadini. “It wasn’t quite as good as yesterday – I missed two very short putts today and my putting in general was so, so – but I'm feeling good.
“I have been here in Russia for the past three years and I like it a lot. I hope to keep playing the way I am playing until Sunday. I'm driving it well and not missing any fairways and this is very important for this course.
“The flags were a little more difficult and the conditions are cold so the ball flies less, but the greens are also difficult and I expect it to get even harder at the weekend with the weather and pin positions.
“I feel like my game is the same now as it was in Denmark. I was delighted to have a week off last week, I was very tired so I needed to recharge my batteries. I had a week’s holiday where I just did nothing.
“I think my confidence with the putting is still there and that’s very important for the next two weeks. It’s a good time to be in good form and hopefully I can keep it up.”
Lloyd, who finished in fifth place at the Rolex Trophy two weeks ago, carded an impressive bogey-free round at the Moscow venue as the 20 year old continues to chase his first Challenge Tour title, having come close at the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic in March.
Tullo, meanwhile, takes much more experience into the weekend’s play at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course as he has two Challenge Tour victories under his belt.
He looked to be heading into the lead after seven birdies and two bogeys took him through 17 holes on five under par for the day and nine under for the tournament.
The 34 year old’s 7 at the par four 10th hole, however, left him in tied second place on six under entering the weekend. Adrien Bernadet of France, Denmark’s Joachim B Hansen, Englishman Ben Parker and Florian Praegant of Austria were all a shot further back in tied fifth place on five under par.

ROSS DRUMMOND SHARES SENIORS LEAD IN GERMANY

FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Bernhard Langer moved menacingly towards the top of the leaderboard at the European Senior Tour’s Pon Senior Open in his native Germany after an opening score of four under par 68 – shot in the poorest conditions of the day – saw him move to within one stroke of the lead.
The former Masters champion powered through the cold and damp afternoon conditions at the Winston Golf resort in northern Germany to notch five birdies and just a single dropped shot to get within one stroke of first round leaders Ross Drummond (pictured above) and Terry Price.
“It was a solid round and a good score because the conditions were tough out there in the wind and the rain,” said Langer.
“I started really well and was two under through three but then had a terrible shot on the fourth and made a few bad swings after that. Thankfully I got it back and made a couple of good birdies on the back nine to finish with a good score.
“The score could have probably been a few strokes better because I created a few really good other chances on the back nine but just couldn’t hole the putts.
“But I am happy with the position – one stroke is nothing when you consider we have 36 holes to go here. That is a lot of golf so even if I was more than one behind I would still be feeling confident about my chances to win.”
Drummond and Price were among the earlier starters and enjoyed favourable conditions as they put together a fine pair of five under par 67s. Both men were generally satisfied with their respective day’s work despite feeling they had left a few chances out on the course.
“That round was very close to being the one I need to make me feel really good about my game again,” said Price, who fired six birdies and just a single dropped shot over the demanding Winston Open course.
“I played pretty well and the conditions were pretty tough out there at times, but I left a few shots out there so it wasn’t quite the round I need to get my confidence really back up to where I need it.
“That has kind of been the story of my year out here really: a few good round here and there but never really putting it together for a whole week. That’s why the results have been pretty average.”
Drummond, meanwhile, had a very similar assessment of his first round performance. Having made a lightning fast start of four birdies in his opening six holes, the Scot was a little disappointed not to push on and record a really low score.
“After the start I made I suppose it could have been better but it was tough out there and I am happy enough with the start,” said Drummond, who finished fifth in last week’s Senior Tour event at Woburn Golf Club.
“I didn’t play as well today as I did last week at Woburn, but I wasn’t far away from that and it is always nice to continue some good scoring form into the next week having played well last week.”

Bracing, Breezy, Bonnie Brora  was the setting for the Macallan North District Senior Championship yesterday where Nairn's Pat Tomisson (65) won the scratch trophy for the first time with a hard fought for five over par 74.

The outward half by the beach was where a score had to be built but after Tomisson's triple bogey seven at the fifth hole he struggling against the elements like the rest of the field.  A Birdie four on the par five 8th hole recovered his card to an outward three over par 38.

Turning for home into the strong wind the winner's acceptable bogey five on the tenth hole lost no ground and following two good par figures he struck for home with a birdie two on the short 13th  hole to set up a best of the competition inward half of 36 to lead the scratch returns by three shots from Philip Bannerman (Strathpeffer Spa) 77 ( (37/40) and Barney Mackie (Carr-bridge) 78.
