NEW VENUES ADDED TO EUROPEAN TOUR QUALIFYING SCHOOL

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR
The Greg Norman-designed Lakes Course at Lumine Golf & Beach Club and Campo de Golf El Saler, which staged the Open de España on three occasions, have been added to the roster of host venues on The European Tour Qualifying School Schedule.
Together with Las Colinas Golf and Country Club, in Alicante, and El Valle Golf Resort, in Murcia, the two new venues in southern Spain will host the Second Stage from November 7-10, 2012.
Campo de Golf El Saler, located in the Albufera National Park some 5km south of Valencia, opened in 1968.
The 6,928 yards, par 72 layout first hosted the Open de España in 1984, when Germany’s Bernhard Langer – who would become a Major Champion at the Masters Tournament one year later – closed with a course record round of 62 en route to taking the title.
Five years later, Langer rekindled his love affair with El Saler when he won the Open de España for a second time, seeing off home hero José Maria Cañizares and England’s Paul Carrigill by three strokes.
The third and final occasion on which Javier Arana’s creation hosted the Open de España was in 2001, when Sweden’s Robert Karlsson captured his fourth European Tour title.
Marian Montero, the Director of El Saler, said: “We are delighted to host the Second Stage of the Qualifying School. I am convinced the young professionals trying to make it onto The European Tour will find El Saler very much to their liking, and we look forward to welcoming them in November.”
Mike Stewart, Director of The European Tour’s Qualifying School, said: “If the quality of a course is judged by the winners it produces, then El Saler can be rightly considered a very fine course indeed. I have no doubt it will prove a most welcome addition to an already strong roster of Qualifying School venues, which also includes another superb new venue in Lumine Golf and Beach Club.
“As with all Troon-managed resorts, we can be assured of pristine course conditions at Lumine Golf and Beach Club which, together with first-class levels of service and attention to detail, makes our lives much easier. The Qualifying School is a hugely important part of The European Tour, and it is reassuring to know that the players hoping to realise their dreams of competing at the highest level will encounter immaculately presented courses.”
Lumine Golf & Beach Club, located an hour south of Barcelona in Tarragona, on Spain’s stunning Costa Dorada, is a world-class resort with 45 holes, practice facilities and two clubhouses.
The championship Lakes Course, designed by two-time Open Champion Norman, is a links-style layout which features several water hazards and winds around the picturesque Sèquia Major wetlands, classified as an Area of Natural Interest.
Calle Carlsson, General Manager of Lumine Golf and Beach Club, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming the stars of tomorrow to Lumine Golf and Beach Club, and I can guarantee them a course that will be in great condition over the four days. The golf courses and the entire resort have been set up to headline and showcase major events, and I have no doubt this will be the start of something special for both the Club and the Costa Dorada region.”
