PERMANENT MASTERS BAN THREAT TO WRITERS OVER PHONES

They run a tight ship at the Masters. If you don't obey the rules at Augusta National, you walk the plank, no matter who you are - even the golf writers!
Here's it all spelled out in a message to them

Reminders for Cell Phone Use by the Press at the Masters

All press accredited to attend the Masters Tournament may have cell phones for use inside the Press Building only.
Under no circumstances should cell phones leave the Press Building. Violation of this policy will subject the credential holder to removal from the grounds and permanent loss of credentials.
If not left at their workspace, writers may register and leave cell phones with the building’s reception staff when on the golf course.

If that's what they promise to do to an "offending" golf writer, what on earth to they do to an "ordinary" member of the public who takes a cell phone on to the golf course itself.
Hanged from the nearest tree probably or burned at the stake.

American Kenny Perry, now 51, was Harrington's closest challenger out on the course. With three to play the former US Ryder Cup player stood six under but he dropped a shot and fell into a multiple tie for second place on 66.

Shields. the 14th match-play qualifier and bidding to follow in the footsteps of last year's winner, Aberdeen's David Law, will play South Africa's Aubrey Barnard from Pretoria, the 13th qualifier, in Saturday's 36-hole final.
McKenna was one up at the turn against Shields who won the 15th and 16th to go one head. McKenna squared the contest again at the 17th and a half at the 18th send the classic semi-final into extra holes, four of them before Shields was the winner.

McKenna will play South African stroke-play champion Haydn Porteous in an 18-hole play-off for third place.
SGU national coach Ian Rae, with his elite squad in South Africa, said: “It was an awesome game between Fraser and Paul. It was a pity someone had to go out. They both played really good golf.
“Fraser had a great quarter-final scalp in the morning over Brandon Stone, South Africa’s No 1 amateur, and Paul has showed all his fighting qualities, playing 43 holes today.
“Paul is playing lovely. He is in control of his game. I expect a good final from him - hopefully he can follow in the footsteps of David. Paul looks really composed on the course.”

KIMSEY WINS SOUTH OF ENGLAND YOUTHS CHAMPIONSHIP

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH GOLF UNION.
England boy cap Nathan Kimsey (Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire) carded final rounds of 66 and 67 to win the Darwin Salver, the South of England Youths Championship, at Rye, with a record score of 270, two under par.
He finished four strokes ahead of fellow boy cap Max Orrin (North Foreland, Kent), runner-up for the second successive year, and five in front of Alfie Plant (Rochester and Cobham, Kent).
With the Sussex course enjoying unseasonal benign conditions and the greens in magnificent condition, Curtis Griffiths (Wentworth, Surrey), yet another boy international, set the first-day pace to lead on 136, one ahead of Kimsey and Orrin.
While the 18-year-old Lincolnshire lad stormed in front with his third-round 66, Griffiths dropped away with 74 and the challenge was taken up by Orrin, Plant and Scott Campbell (Hallowes, Yorkshire).
But Kimsey, winner of the McEvoy Trophy last year when he also finished fourth on the Titleist FootJoy EGU Boys Order of Merit, wasn’t to be denied. His closing 67 saw him out of reach of his pursuers despite 66s from Plant and Campbell, while Orrin matched Kimsey’s 67.

TEENAGE WONDER MANASSERO SETS RECORD PACE IN SPAIN

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
A brilliant eight under par 64 gave Italy’s Matteo Manassero a three shot lead after the first round of the Open de Andalucía Costa del Sol.
The 18 year old, who could secure a second Masters Tournament appearance with victory at Aloha, leads from a group of five players on five under.
Swede Niclas Fasth, South African Open champion Hennie Otto, home favourite Eduardo de la Riva and English pair Lloyd Kennedy and Anthony Wall carded matching rounds of 67.
Manassero, still only 18 years old, equalled the Aloha course record with his nine-birdie effort.
Currently 63rd in the Official World Golf Ranking, the young Italian needs to climb into the top 50 by the end of next week’s Trophée Hassan II to secure a place at Augusta National.
He was there as British Amateur Champion two years ago, made the halfway cut and six months later became The European Tour's youngest-ever winner.
That came at Sergio Garcia's home course in Castellon and being back on Spanish soil brought back memories.
"It's quite similar, but a little bit more hilly," Manassero said after matching the score of Lee Westwood en route to his winning of the same title in 2007.
Seven of the par fours are under 400 yards and the teenager, who ranks 173rd out of 185 in driving distance, added: "It's a course that suits me and hopefully it will be my week.
“It’s my first time at Aloha. This course suits my game because it’s not long, and I don’t need to hit 300 yards to reach the par fives. You need accurate shots and a good strategy, and I enjoy this type of course.
"You have to put the ball in play and then do well around the greens. I did pretty much everything right apart from one shot.
“The key today was my putting. I made a couple of 20 footers and placed the ball on the right spots.”
He bogeyed the seventh, his 16th, after a poor pitch, but already had seven birdies on his card and finished with two more.
Fasth, a member of Europe's winning Ryder Cup Team at The Belfry a decade ago, had to fall back on his career earnings to keep his European Tour card last year after finishing 132nd on The Race to Dubai.
The 39 year old, with only one top-three finish in the last four seasons, eagled the long 16th and had six birdies to reach six under, but finished with his third bogey.
“I have been working very hard on my swing for some time and I am very happy to see the results,” said Fasth.
“I started playing extremely well and made up my score on the first nine. Then I had a few ups and downs. ”
Former Masters Tournament champion Mike Weir, over from Canada trying to reignite his career following elbow surgery, opened with a 68, while Abu Dhabi winner Robert Rock and tournament host Miguel Angel Jiménez returned 69s playing with Manassero.
Rock, conqueror of Tiger Woods in January, is another just outside the top 50 and winning on Sunday could all but clinch an Augusta debut for him, while Manassero would still have to play well next week.

JAMES BYRNE SHOOTS SIX-BIRDIE 68 - BUT MISSES CAMBODIA CUT

James Byrne shot a second-round, four-under-par 68 - 13 shots better than his first round - but he still missed the halfway cut by six strokes in the inaugurual Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic on a steamy hot day at the Angkor Golf Resort, Siem Riep today.
The Banchory pro birided the first, sixth, eighht, ninth,11th, 12th and 16th in halves of 34, which also included bogeys at the third, fourth and 13th.
The cut was fell at one-under-par 143, with 68 players progressing into the final two rounds with that aggregate of better.

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ASIAN TOUR
Siem Reap, Cambodia: Thailand’s Chinnarat Phadungsil was hot with his irons as he shared the halfway lead with an equally inspired Kim Hyung-sung of South Korea at the inaugural HANDA FALDO Cambodian Classic on today
The 23-year-old Chinnarat, who is a three-time Asian Tour winner, snared nine birdies against a lone bogey to smash the one-day old course record with an eight-under-par 64 at the impressive Angkor Golf Resort.
Featuring in his first event of the year, Kim, 31, was also in brilliant form, shooting five straight birdies on his front nine and then holing out a sensational eagle on 16 from 30 yards. He followed up with another birdie on 17 but the Korean was denied the outright lead after dropping a bogey on his last hole for a 65 and 11-under-par 133 total.
Tall Irishman Niall Turner battled hot and humid conditions in the US$300,000 Asian Tour event during a flawless 67 which left him one shot back of the leading duo. He has not dropped a shot in 36 holes.
The stocky Chinnarat put himself in prime position to end a three-year winless run with a powerful performance. Such was his solid iron play that he hit 17 greens in regulation.
“My irons were very good. I didn’t have long putts as I hit many shots close,” said Chinnarat, who holds the record of being the youngest winner on the Asian Tour at the age of 17 years and five days.
The talented Thai is also reaping the rewards of work done on his putting, needing only 27 putts to negotiate the greens. “In the last two events in India, my putting wasn’t good. I went back to Thailand and worked on it and I’m getting more confident with my putting. It’s basic stuff like keeping my head and putter head still during the stroke. It’s working,” he said.
Kim attended lessons at the Butch Harmon Academy in Vegas in January to fix his swing which had been hampered by a shoulder injury last season. With added distance to his game, the highlight of his round was holing out on the par five 16th hole.
“Swing is feeling nice, feels good,” said Kim, a three-time winner on the South Korean circuit.
“Eagled the 16th hole which was good. I was about 30 yards short of the green and then hit a flop shot into the hole. Unbelievable. Lucky.
“I had a shoulder injury last year and because of that my shoulder turn has not been too good. We worked on it which has allowed me to hit draw shots. I’ve gained some 20 yards with my driver and about one club length with the iron shots. I feel good about my game,” he added.
The 28-year-old Turner struggled in the stifling heat but managed to fire five birdies to stay on the leaders’ coattail. “Front nine, maybe it was the hottest I’ve experienced in Asia,” said the Irishman, who is in his second year in Asia.
“There was no wind and it was just breathless out there. Humidity was off the charts and I was glad the winds picked up a bit on the back nine. It was hot.”
With his great length with the driver, where he averages over 300 yards, Turner birdied three of the four par fives. It was his putter though which saved the day for him. “Putted well. Made a lot of good par saves on the last six or seven holes,“ said Turner.
Overnight leader Baek Seuk-hyun was amongst those tied in fourth place, four strokes behind, after a 71. Filipino Elmer Salvador (69), Indian newcomer Ajeetesh Sandhu (68) and Thailand’s Thanyakon Khrongpha (66) also played their way into contention on 137.
Filipino Jay Bayron fired the tournament’s first hole-in-one at the par three ninth with a four iron en route to a 67. It was the first ace in his pro career.

PETER LATIMER WINS HIS FIRST PRO PRIZE WITH FOUR-UNDER 68

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Scot Peter Latimer, who started a three-year PGA training foundation degree course under club pro Robert Joyce at Felixstowe Ferry GC, Suffolk a few months back, has scored his first win as a professional over his new home course in a local Alliance competition.
Peter, 24, pictured, shot four-under-par 68 to earn the first prize of £135.
Latimer says he is really enjoying life down in England and getting lots of golf, which is not always the case for a young man starting out his PGA apprenticeship. His next competition is over the Royal St George's course - which he has never played yet - in a mini pro circuit in the south of England.
Latimer, a St Andrews New GC member as an amateur whose family home is at Markinch, was a winner on the US college golf circuit during his four years at Guillford College, Greensboro in North Carolina, and he played for Scotland in the 2009 Home Internationals.
He reached the quarter-finals of the Scottish amateur championship at Royal Troon in 2009 and won the East of Scotland open amateur stroke-play at Lundin GC, Fife in 2010 by seven strokes with a brilliant 14-under-par aggregate of 270.
"I couldn't afford to remain a full-time amateur and I couldn't afford to become a tour pro so becoming a PGA-trained pro seemed the best option," said Peter.
Earlier this week Andrew Coltart went on record as saying too many Scottish amateurs turned professional with a view to making a living from tournament golf - but they were not good enough.
Before Latimer took the plunge into PGA training, another former Scotland amateur Keir Nicoll from Carnoustie who had been struggling to make any headway as a tour pro decided to enrol for PGA training and he is now under the wing of Alasdair Good, the Gullane pro.
Nicoll too has since become a winner as a professional - in the Edinburgh and East of Scotland Alliance competitions.
