DONALD BIRDIE BLITZ WINS DISNEY CLASSIC AND US MONEY TITLE

FROM THE BBC SPORT WEBSITE
England's Luke Donald clinched the US PGA Tour money list title with victory at the Disney Classic in Florida today.
The world number one played a magnificent back nine which included six birdies on the way to a 64.
Donald's chances looked slim after a bogey 6 on the eighth but his round came alive on the back nine.
Playing partner and US PGA money list rival Webb Simpson finished the tournament three shots behind Donald.
The triumph means US-based Donald is on course to become the first player to top the money lists in both the United States and Europe at the end of the same year.
In Europe the 33-year-old leads by over £1m, but there are eight events left and he will be missing some because his wife Diane is expecting their second child in the next fortnight.
BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter writes:
"Donald's reputation has been for collecting big cheques with consistently high finishes rather than an out-and-out winner. Revision of that assessment is long overdue.
"This was an astonishing victory. The Englishman only entered the final PGA Tour event of year to try to gain the top two finish that might win him the money list. A stunning final round 64 did the job in spectacular style.
"It was his fourth win of the year, he is destined to claim the Race to Dubai in Europe as well - no one's done that before - and Donald is more than justifying his position as world number one"
Donald had to win the Florida tournament or finish second to top the money list. It did not look a certainty with eight holes to play as Donald, Simpson, Billy Mayfair and Justin Leonard trailed 15-under par tournament leader Kevin Chappell by one stroke.
Donald then started playing majestic golf with consecutive birdies on 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.
He took sole lead of the tournament on the 14th and strengthened his position with an extraordinary 45-foot putt on 15.
Donald's form appeared to put Simpson off his stroke. The 26-year-old American, three under for the front nine, found himself making pars rather than birdies down the home stretch.
Donald parred 16, 17 and 18 to card his 64 and finish 17 under par.
"I didn't play the par fives well," Donald said, "but what better time to go on a run than the final round back nine when everything was on the line.
"I wasn't too happy with my swing earlier in the week but it's nice to do it under pressure. All credit to Pat Goss and the good team I have around me.
"It's been a tremendous year for me. I answered a lot of critics' questions coming here knowing I had to win, and doing it."
A gracious Simpson conceded: "I just ran into a buzz saw! I expected the best player in the world to play well but I didn't quite expect six birdies in a row. I didn't quite have my game where I wanted it."
Donald's Disney win was his fourth US PGA career success but his first US PGA stroke-play victory since the Honda Classic in 2006.
Still chasing his first Major, Donald has posted 14 top 10 finishes in 19 US tournaments in 2011.
Donald's £531,000 Disney Classic cheque took him onto a total of £4.19m ($6.68m) US winnings this year, with Webb Simpson finishing on £3.98m ($6.34m).
Donald currently leads the European Tour money list with £3.34m in earnings, £1.14m clear of Rory McIlroy.

HOST K J CHOI WINS ASIAN TOUR INVITATIONAL IN SOUTH KOREA

FROM THE GOLF.COM WEBSITE
JEJU ISLAND, South Korea (AP) — Tournament host K J Choi won the Asian Tour's C J Invitational today, closing with a 5-under 67 for a two-stroke victory.
The world 14th-ranked South Korean star finished at 17 under at Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club.
"I had so much things going on, I didn't really think about the win. I was busy looking after the players and taking care of the sponsors," Choi said.
"Probably the fact that I wasn't thinking about the tournament helped me feel at ease. The way it turned out, I'm happy to be the inaugural champion even though I am hosting this event, it gives a special meaning."
Countryman Noh Seung-yeol was second after a 66.
American Anthony Kim (73) and third-round leader Lee Ki-sang (74) tied for third at 13 under.
"It was a tough day," Kim said. "I tried everything I could. The ball didn't want to go into the hole. But K.J. played amazing. He made the putts when he needed to."

GARCIA THE GREAT AGAIN ... WINNER BY ELEVEN SHOTS IN SPAIN

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Sergio Garcia dedicated victory to the late Seve Ballesteros as he turned the final round of the Castelló Masters into a victory procession today.
The 31 year old Spaniard shot a closing 63 to blow away the field at the Club de Campo del Mediterráneo, Spain and finish an astonishing 27 under par – 11 shots ahead of the rest.
It was the joint-third largest victory margin in European Tour history and confirmed the Ryder Cup star’s return to form as he claimed his first title for almost three years.
Already eight clear with a round to go, Garcia’s 63 was his second of the week and with a 64 in between he beat the previous biggest winning margin of the European Tour season by three.
There have been only two bigger in the history of The European Tour - Tiger Woods won the 2000 US Open Championship by 15 and Ernie Els the 2005 Asian Open by 13 - while the only player to finish more under par was Els, 29 under at the 2003 Johnnie Walker Classic.
On a day of spectacular scoring compatriot Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño was second after a 64 - he bogeyed the final two holes for that - and joint third were Swede Alex Noren (also 64) and Scot Richie Ramsay (65) on 15 under.
"That was for Seve," said Garcia after winning on the Castellón course where he first won the club championship when he was just 12.
One over par after ten holes of his first round, Garcia was brilliant from then on, and from the moment he claimed the halfway lead never looked like being caught on his first appearance in Spain since Ballesteros died of brain cancer in May.Althouh the performance will not enter the official record books because placing on the fairways was allowed all week, it has been beaten only once on the European Tour. Ernie Els was 29 under in winning the 2003 Johnnie Walker Classic.
As for his own career, none of his previous 18 wins as a professional had been by more than four strokes.
Second in the Official World Golf Ranking when he won the 2008 HSBC Champions, Garcia slipped to outside the top 75 as his form deserted him, but is now inside the top 35 again.
And he moves into the top 15 of The Race to Dubai who will split the $7,500,000 bonus pool at the end of the season.
Tired after a long stint in America, Garcia took four weeks off before the tournament and said: "They were mother's milk for me - obviously they worked.
"It's hard to say that you expect to fire like I did, but I was feeling good and I've been improving all year."
So he has. He had top-12 finishes in the last three Majors and lost a five-hole play-off to compatriot Pablo Larrazabal at the BMW International Open in Munich in June.
It was another Spaniard who came runner-up to him this time. Fernandez-Castaño, out of action for much of the season with back trouble, had a 64 to take second place on 16 under.
The field all knew teeing off that they were probably playing for second place.
“I’m very happy with my result,” said Fernandez-Castaño. “I knew that reaching Sergio was going to be complicated and my goal was to be second so I could secure my card for next year. I made it so I’m very happy.
“When I started off so well I thought I could put pressure on Sergio but I saw that he was doing the same thing so I concentrated on being second. When such a good friend wins, you feel very happy for him”
Even though Fernandez-Castaño went to the turn in a best-of-the-week 29 with an eagle and five birdies, Garcia had resumed eight in front.
And, with birdies of his own at the fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth, he was cruising.
The former Ryder Cup star, who has to be fancied for a return to the side after this, started for home with two more, then picked up further shots at the 14th and 15th.
His one error came when he failed to get up and down from sand on the 17th, but his approach to the 424 yard last almost went in for eagle.
"I would like to thank not only my family and friends, but also my sponsors, everyone that's around me, for supporting me through two tough years," he said.
"They have stuck with me and believed in me and I'm happy to be able to pay them back with this victory.
"At the beginning of the week there's always a little extra pressure because you want to do well in front of your home fans and on your home course.
"But I felt really good and it showed. Hopefully I can keep moving forward, but there are still some things I can improve on."

SCOTSWATCH: Aberdonian Richie Ramsay (pictured) finished joint third on 269 with rounds of 72, 64, 68 and 65 to earn 112,600 Euros. It was the 28-year-old's first top 10 finish of a disappointing season. Indeed, prior to this excellent performance, Richie's highest finish of the year was 16th in the KLM Open.
Gary Orr was the second best Scot in joint 27th place on 277 with scores of 67, 67, 67 and 69 for which he earned 18,000 Euros.
