SHAUN McALLISTER NOW LEADING SCOT IN EUROPRO TOUR EVENT

Alex Belt will take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the EuroPro Tour World Snooker Association Golf Championship after a superb second round of 64 on Wednesday.
The Englishman from the De Vere Club scored a six under par round today at the Players Club near Bristol. Birdies at the second, fifth, eighth, ninth and 12th, along with bogies at the third and 11th, left him three under for the day going into the closing stretch. Belt then finished in style with birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th to surge through the field. Having shot 67 in the opening round, he now stands at nine under par.
At last week's ABC Solutions UK Championship, Belt had a two-shot lead going into the last four holes, but then dropped five shots and finished sixth. This time he'll be looking to finish the job and take the £10,000 top prize.
In second place on eight under is Andrew Willey who shot 65 today, followed by Billy Hemstock on seven under. Edinburgh's Shaun McAllister tied Belt's low round of the day with a 64 and he's on six under.
Overnight leader Duncan Stewart, who won last week's EuroPro Tour event, slumped to a 77 and looks out of the running at one over par.
The final round is on Thursday.

There were shocks and surprises galore in the Angus boys matchplay championship today at Kirriemuir Golf Club. Biggest surprise package of the day came in the afternoon quarter finals where 13 year old Gavin Petrie of Forfar produced rock solid golf to win by 4&3 against championship favourite Connar Cook from Caird Park. Connar obviously dissapointed still made time to praise young Gavin on his performance. Greg Urquhart progressed at the expense of strokeplay champion Callum Rennie. RUSHFORD KOS CHAMPION STEWART AT WESTERN GAILES

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY SCOTTISH GOLF UNIONBy ROSS DUNCAN
Grangemouth’s Bobby Rushford has ended Michael Stewart’s Scottish Amateur Championship title defence with a convincing 4 and 3 victory in scorching sunshine at Western Gailes this afternoon.
Rushford, who reached the semi-finals at Nairn five years ago, was out of the blocks quickly, racing to a four-hole lead after the opening six holes. He notched four birdies in the first ten holes and closed out the match in fine style, firing an 8-iron to just 3-feet at the short 15th to set up a match winning birdie two.
The 23-year-old is one of four University of Stirling golf team-mates into the fourth round after he was joined by Dunbar’s Alexander Culverwell, Glenbervie’s Graeme Robertson and Scotland Boys international Jack McDonald, who rolled in a 35-foot birdie putt on the final green to beat Scott Crichton, having battled back superbly from three down with five to play.
A trio of US scholarship students also reached the last 32 early this evening as Kyle McClung (Wigtownshire), Neil Henderson (Glen) and James Ross (Royal Burgess) all enjoyed good wins, the latter with an excellent 6 and 4 defeat of George Finlay.
The 2009 champion, David Law, continued his steady progress with a 4 and 2 victory over Ross Noon, while Pollok’s Conor O’Neil stormed through with five birdies in his last six holes to overcome former British Mid-Amateur champion Andrew Farmer.
Fellow Scotland squad youngster Scott Gibson (Southerness) booked his place in round four with a 3 and 2 win over Inchmarlo’s Chris Robb and will now face Royal Troon’s Michael Smyth, who ended Gordon Stevenson’s challenge, winning the match by 4 and 3.
In the bottom quarter of the draw, SGU Order of Merit leader James White (Lundin) maintained his excellent form to beat Nairn 16-year-old Andrew Burgess 5 and 4, with former Scottish Youths Champion Scott Borrowman crushing Euan McKinnon 8 and 7.
McKinnon, however had reason to celebrate earlier day after he produced the 2011 championship’s first hole-on-one, with a sweetly struck 6-iron at the 198-yard seventh hole in his morning win over Angus Carrick.
Banchory’s James Byrne, a beaten semi-finalist twelve months ago, outlined his title credentials by fired eight birdies in the first thirteen holes to overpower former Scottish Boys Champion Grant Forrest 6 and 5, but there was joy for Forrest’s East Lothian counterpart Daniel Kay (Dunbar) as he fought back from three holes down to pip North East star Kris Nicol at the 19th.
Former champion Allan Thomson (Ayr Belleisle) had a titantic struggle against North-east boys' champion Daniel Thompsett before beating the Aboyne GC junior member from Tarland at the 21st.
A third North-east man in the last 32 is Adam Dunton from Ellon. He had a good 3 and 2 win over the experienced Gordon Yates (Hilton Park).
Glenbervie's Graeme Robertson, one of the most consistent top-5 finishers in this season's SGU Order of Merit events - without winning one - has made good progress. A 4 and 2 win over Daniel Young (Craigie Hill) - perhaps tired after winning at the 22nd in the previous round - put Robertson into the last 32.
At the end of the longest day in the championship - well after 9pm - Brian Soutar (Leven Golfing Society) won at the 23rd against Douglas Hunter (Dalmahoy). That put Soutar up against the rejuvenated Scott Borrowman in the round of the last 32.

Thursday ties in the Round of the last 32:

Michael Campbell (Renfrew) v Bobby Rushford (Grangemouth)
Graeme McDougall (Bishopbriggs) v James Ross (Royal Burgess)
Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) v Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm)

DALMAHOY'S ALAN TAIT and JOHN LAWSON WIN LAS VEGAS TRIP

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE PGA
Dentist John Lawson produced a polished performance to earn a trip to Las Vegas in the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship qualifier at Crieff Golf Club this week
Lawson teamed up with Marriott Dalmahoy PGA Professional Alan Tait and insisted it was the best day of his golfing life as the duo took the honours in a close finish.
The Dalmahoy pair tied at the top with Loch Ness Golf Club’s Martin Piggot and Andrew Clark as both recorded a seven under par round of 64.
But the countback was over the final six holes and Tait and Lawson narrowly came out on top. Both Tait and Martin Piggott won £425 each.
The top two edged out the Gleneagles pairing of pro Russell Smith and Andrew Lothian who posted a six under par round of 65. Smith's consolation prize was a cheque for £250.
But it is Tait and Lawson who will take part in the Grand Final of Europe’s biggest Pro-Am event, which will be held at the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort in Nevada from December 5-6.
They will make their appearance in the 36-hole final - supported by SkyCaddie and BMW - which is being staged over the Jack Nicklaus-designed SouthShore course.
Lawson, 44, who plays off a nine handicap, said: “I was buzzing at the end. It was the best moment of my golfing life - and I’ve been playing 20 years.
“But I’d never won a medal event before the one that got me through to this qualifier, and then it’s carried on by us both getting to Las Vegas.
“Alan’s a good player. We’ve never played in a pro-am before but he took the pressure off me which meant I could go for some of my shots.
“We weren’t sure at the end whether we’d won, and because we finished quite early we thought someone would pip us. But they didn’t.
“To go to Las Vegas is fantastic - I might be cancelling some patients at the surgery that week.”
Tait added: “I’ve never been close to making this final before. But John was a tidy player and I said to him that something around seven under par might be enough to win it.
“I have to praise the Crieff greenkeeper though; the greens were just about the best I’ve played in the last few years. They should be very proud.
“We came here to play well and enjoy the day, so to win and go to Las Vegas was a nice surprise.”
The PGA National Pro-Am Championship is now its 27th competitive year with the award-winning Virgin Atlantic long haul airline sponsoring the event for the third successive year.
The winning professional at the Grand Final will take home a cheque for £5,000.
