It's that man Molinari again setting the pace

From Challenge Tour Press Officer Paul Symes
Not for the first time this season, Edoardo Molinari will go into the weekend as the man to catch after a second successive round of 69 saw him maintain his one-stroke advantage on day two of the European Challenge Tour's ECCO Tour Championship.
The Italian, whose nearest challengers are Portugal’s José-Filipe Lima and Finland’s Roope Kakko on five under par, has enjoyed a half-way lead on three previous occasions this season – at the Club Colombia Masters presentado por Samsung, the Piemonte Open, and the Kazakhstan Open.
Only once has he relinquished that lead, in Colombia, which underlines the task facing Lima and Kakko, who matched the Italian’s round of 69, as did England’s John Parry, who sits in fourth place on four under par.
In more benign conditions at Holstebro GK in Jutland, on the east coast of Denmark, Molinari again carded four birdies and a solitary bogey to move to six under par and within sight of the fifth Challenge Tour title of his career.
But with up to 30mm of rain predicted on the third day, he may have to do it the hard way.
Molinari said: “Although it saw still very cold this morning the course was playing much easier without the wind, but I didn’t hit the ball as well as I did yesterday. I drove the ball very well again today but my approach play wasn’t great, so I didn’t give myself many chances for birdie. But 69’s still not a bad round here – if I can do the same for the next two days, I’ll be in with a great chance.
“With the weather forecast not looking too good, it may come down to who plays the conditions the best. That could work in my favour, because I’m driving the ball well and you have to keep your ball in play when the weather’s bad. So whatever happens, hopefully I’ll be able to deal with it.”Welshman Stuart Manley, Sweden’s Anders Sjöstrand and Spain’s Carl Suneson are tied for fifth place on two under par after all three signed for rounds of 71 for the second successive day.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Round 2

Richie Ramsay shares lead after 67 at Carnoustie

FROM THE SCOTSMAN.COM WEBSITE
Richie Ramsay continued his strong showing at this year's Alfed Dunhill Links Championship to share the lead at the half way stage.
The Aberdeen golfer shot a 66 at St Andrews' Old Course, following his 67 over the links at Carnoustie yesterday.
A top 10 finish on Sunday will secure Ramsay's card for next season, but the former US Amateur champion can aim higher than that – and he has already taken the opportunity to blast those who knock the current state of Scottish golf.
Scotland's highest-ranked player in the world is Gary Orr at 140th, but they are the current world and European amateur champions and they were World Cup winners two years ago.
"In America the positive attitude they have is unbelievable, whereas Scottish scepticism can creep in and it's a difficult thing to fight," he said."It's almost like some people are waiting for you to trip up. I think we've got to be a lot more positive.
"Okay we're waiting for somebody big to come along, but we should be proud of what we've achieved."
Ramsay is joined at the top of the leaderboard by Irishmen Rory McIlroy and Michael Hoey.

FROM THE AOL GOLF NEWS SERVICE
Just as he did when he took third place two years ago - in only his second professional event - Rory McIlroy tamed one of the toughest holes in golf today.
And this time his birdie 3 on the famous Road Hole 17th at St Andrews, Old Course helped the prodigiously talented 20-year-old into a share of the halfway lead in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
McIlroy, needing a top-two finish to go top of the European money list, is alongside fellow Northern Irishman Michael Hoey and Scot Richie Ramsay on 11 under par after a superb 65.
And what made it extra special was the fact that he is competing in the celebrity pro-am with dad Gerry, 50 this coming Monday.

After three-putting the 16th for what was his only bogey on the opening two days McIlroy had his father come over to him to say: "You've finished 3-3 before, so why not do it again?"
The Dubai Desert Classic champion was already thinking the same, hit a drive and seven-iron to 15 feet, made the putt and then smashed another drive onto the 18th green 350 yards away - something he had never done before - and two-putted for a birdie 3.
There is a lot at stake this weekend - not least a first prize of more than £485,000 - but before transferring to Kingsbarns for the third round McIlroy added: "I think playing with my Dad will be a great distraction.
"Growing up, I never thought he'd be able to walk up the 18th at St Andrews with me in this big a tournament. It's fantastic."
Four off the lead at the start of the day, but given a chance to take over at the top with Thomas Bjorn adding only a 74 at Carnoustie to his 64 at Kingsbarns, McIlroy birdied the third and then eagled the 568yd fifth with a five-wood to 12 feet.
Three more birdies were to follow before his stumble three holes from home, but that was quickly forgotten.

Dear, Booth and McNicoll in Fairmont St

Andrews field for EuroPro Tour event

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE PGA EUROPRO TOUR
The final event of the 2009 PGA EuroPro Tour takes place at Fairmont St Andrews next week, offering players the last chance to make it into the top 60 and the Tour Championship.
The PartyPoker.com International Open begins on Wednesday, October 7 and the line-up for the climax to the 2009 Tour will be set after Friday’s final round. It seems fitting that the final event of the year takes place at the home of golf given the strong showing that Scottish golfers have made on the Tour this year.
Glasgow’s Scott Jamieson leads the Order of Merit and is joined in the top six by two fellow countrymen – fourth placed Jack Doherty (North Gailes) and Elliot Saltman in sixth spot (Aegon).
Jamieson beat Saltman in a play-off at The PartyPoker.com European Championship at Prince’s GC in June and his second win on the Tour came in August at The ABC Solutions UK Championship at Wychwood Park.
Doherty scooped the second event of the year back in May, winning the Green 17 Faithlegg Championship at Faithlegg GC in Ireland and two third place finishes in August in The Pandora Open at Burhill GC and The Formby Hall Classic (tied) saw him secure a top five spot and exemption to the second phase of European Tour Qualifying School.
Saltman achieved the same status, thanks to Jamieson’s position of in the Challenge Tour rankings, and the powerful 27 year-old has recorded some of the most impressive individual rounds this year, with a course record 65 at Formby Hall.
However, victory has eluded Saltman so far, with his runners-up berth to Jamieson in Kent following his tie for second in the opening event at Collingtree Park.
Jamieson’s lead at the top of the money list is a slender one, with just over £1,000 between him and Tom Haylock (Ground Construction Ltd) in second place. Daniel Brooks (Mill Hill) is in third spot while Paul Dwyer (Clitheroe) sits between Doherty and Saltman in fifth position.
Aside from the current crop of EuroPro players striving for a top 50 spot, interest comes from an impressive list of invited players.
Top of the pile is 1989 Ryder Cup player Ronan Rafferty who won the Order of Merit in that year and has seven European Tour wins to his name.
He is joined by ex-European Tour pro Paul Eales. Scot Paul McKechnie returns to the Tour after winning the 2002 Tour Championship and Order of Merit, and European and Asian Tour man Craig Lee recently topped the European Tour Qualifying School at Dundonald Links.
Three Scots in Great Britain and Ireland’s 2009 Walker Cup also take part on home turf, with team members Gavin Dear and Wallace Booth joined by squad man Keir McNicoll.
Live scoring of The PartyPoker.com International Open begins on Wednesday morning at www.europrotour.com, where you can also find the full list of entries for the event and the current Order of Merit standings.

glad to swop hickory clubs

for PGA four-ball

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE PGA
Two Scottish world hickory champions will be out to show they are just as handy with modern golf equipment when they tee up in next week's SkyCaddie PGA Four-ball Championship supported by Sunderland.
Mark King and Robert Arnott head south to Forest Pines Golf and Country Club in Lincolnshire next week on the back of their respective victories in the World Professional Hickory Championship at Gullane and the World Hickory Open Strokeplay Challenge at Musselburgh.

The long time friends from Kirkintilloch face stiff competition from 60 other pairs from Great Britain and Ireland in the 54-hole final from October 7-9 but while the duo are likely to be the only players in the field with world titles to their name, King admits it will be a relief to be taking them on with the more traditional golfing weaponry of the 21st century.
“The world hickory championship is just a bit of fun but to be honest it’s quite difficult to play with those clubs and hats off to those guys who had to play with them all the time. I don’t how they managed it,” said King, a teaching professional from Kingsfield Golf Range.
The championship carries a £30,000 prize fund and with the successful campaigns on the Tartan Tour behind them, the duo are well placed to stake a claim to the £5,000 winners’ cheque.
Arnott, from Bishopbriggs Golf Range, finished third in Scottish Region Order of Merit to win a place at the end of season PGA Play-Offs while King achieved an 11th placed finish. They will be aiming for an improved showing on last year in the four-ball final where they finished in a share of 12th.
“We did okay last year but didn’t make enough birdies. Basically to have any chance you’ve got to be making plenty of them,” said King.“There’s no great master plan, we’ll just go out and play our games and see how it goes.
“I’ve known Rob for years; we get on well and don’t blame each for any bad shots so it’s a good partnership.“It will be the first time I’ve played Forest Pines but I think Rob may have played it before.“Rob’s got the play-offs coming up after that but it will be last event of the year for me so it would be nice to sign off in style with a win.”
Also in the final will be Turnhouse pair Scott Grieve and James McGhee who topped the Scottish qualifier at Musselburgh. They will be joined by Andrew Locke and Ryan Fitzpatrick, both from Inchmarlo Golf Centre, Banchory

Knox needs something special in second round,

and Gunn is six shots off the pace in Arizona

Inverness exile Russell Knox, a winner on the Hooters Tour three weeks ago, consistently makes the cuts on this highly-competitive US mini-tour but the Scot looks destined to fail in this week's event at The Members Club, Woodcreek in Elgin, South Carolina.
Russell has posted a first-round, one-over-par 73 to be seven shots behind the six players sharing the lead on 66. He is well down the field.
The cut mark can be as low as three under par on the Hooters Tour so Knox needs an exceptional second round over a course just over the 7,000yd mark.
Meanwhile, fellow Highlander Jimmy Gunn from Dornoch is struggling with a 74 on another very competitive US circuit, the Gateway Tour.
Gunn is six shots behind pacemaker Zack Miller in the Tour Championship at Legacy Golf Club, Arizona. The course is 7,199yd long.
