Scott Jamieson has nightmare 80

in third round of Hooters Open

Russell Knox is not playing in this weekend's Hooters Tour Open over 72 holes at Rock Barn Golf & Spa, Conover in North Carolina.
Russell is coming back home - if he can call Inverness home these days - for a short break from his base for the past few years at Jacksonville Beach in Florida.
That leaves Scott Jamieson, like Knox a former US college circuit player, to carry the standard for Scotland.
And he had a nightmare third round of 80 for a tally of 13-over-par 229.
The Glasgow man had three double bogeys - at the 11th, short 15th and short 17th. Birdies at the first, fifth and eighth were not enough to compensate in halves of 36 and 44.
Another former US college player David Skinns, now living in Atlanta, Georgia had rounds of 73, 75 and 75 for 223.
In the race for the $33,566 jackpot prize, three men shared the lead of 141 at the halfway point - Justin Smith from Pennsylvania with 67 and 74, Scott Stallings from Tennessee with 74 and 67, and Blaire Peffley, also from Pennsylvania with 72 and 69.

WGC-CA Championship at Doral Resort, Miami

Butch's Boys, Mickelson and Watney,

share four-stroke lead over field

It looks a straight shoot-out over the final round between Phil Mickelson and fellow American Nick Watney for the WGC-CA Championship at the Doral Resort & Spa, Miam in Florida on Sunday. Both are coached by Butch Harmon.
Mickelson shot a third-round 69 - his "poorest" yet - and was caught on the 16-under-par 200 mark by Watney who had a Saturday 67.
They have pulled away from the star-studded field, putting four shots between them and the third place Jeev Milka Singh (68-204), Camilo Villegas (69-204).
Rory McIlroy slipped back with a par-72 - you have to shoot under par to "live" in this company - for a 54-hole total of 10-under-par 206.
He is still the leading British or Irish player with Padraig Harrington going backwards with a pair of 71s since he teed off with a 66 on Thursday. Harrington is on eight-under 208, one behind Luke Donald who had a 68 for 207. Pauley Casey (72), Oliver Wilson (72) and Ian Poulter (73) are bracketed on the 209 mark - out of the hunt for the top spot.
Tiger Woods stepped up a gear from opening efforts of 71 and 70 to shoot a four-under-par 68 but his three-round tally of 209 is nine shots behind Mickelson and Watney.

Joey Sindelar single putts 11 greens on way

to 64 on American Seniors Tour lead

American Joey Sindelar, 50, shot an eight-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead over Tom Purtzer after the opening round of the AT&T Champions Classic at Santa Clarita, California.
Sindelar, without a win in 22 starts on the US Champions (Seniors) Tour after winning seven times on the US PGA Tour, has not had a bogey in the last 38 holes he has played.
Last Sunday, at Newport Beach, he shot a 63 to tie for second behind Eduardo Romero in the Toshiba Classic.]
“I’ve always enjoyed being a ball-striker. It’s what thrills me,” Sindelar said. “But that’s not what wins tournaments. It took me 25 years to learn that.”
Sindelar one-putted 11 greens and finished with 25 putts overall.
“I’ve been spending more time on my putting,” Sindelar said. “That work is showing. I’m not making everything, but it is definitely improving.”
After opening with six consecutive pars, Sindelar played the final 12 holes in eight under — eagling the par-5 ninth and adding six birdies.
Jay Haas and David Edwards opened with 67s on the Valencia Country Club course, and Bernhard Langer, Bruce Lietzke, Ben Crenshaw and John Cook shot 68s.
Romero had a 70, and defending champion Denis Watson shot a 75.

Martin out to lead from Piller to

post in New Zealand Open

American Martin Piller shot a 4-under 68 today to top the crowded third-round leaderboard in the New Zealand Open at Queenstown.
Piller, a 23-year-old former Texas A&M player in his first season on the Nationwide Tour, had a 12-under 204 total on The Hills course.
Piller birdied Nos. 14, 15 and 17, but missed a makeable birdie putt on 18.
"Overall it's been a great day and I can't be complaining about that," Piller said.
He enjoyed his late tee time.
"Whenever I'm playing early I get nervous that I am going to sleep through my alarm," Piller said.
New Zealand's Grant Waite (66) and Josh Geary (68) were a stroke back along with American Alex Prugh (69), Australia's Jason Norris (71) and Norway's Henrik Bjornstad (68) in the event sanctioned by the Australasian and Nationwide tours.
Americans Jim Herman (65), Drew Laning (69) and Jeff Gove (72) were 10 under along with Sweden's Jonas Blixt (67). Gove and Norris shared the second-round lead.
