McAlpine completes Scottish title

Great result for Kevin McAlpine to follow up his victory in the Scottish men's amateur match-play championship at Nairn last year by winning the Bidwells Scottish men's open amateur stroke-play championship at Royal Dornoch over the weekend.
The Alyth man, who had rounds of 67, 70, 64 and 70 for a nine-under-par total of 271, will defend his national match-play title at Prestwick at the end of July with confidence sky high after this one.
And what a great performance too by Banchory teenager James Byrne who won the silver medal for being officially placed second. Frenchman A Kaleka had the same 72-hole total but James was awarded the medal for having a better last 36-holes total.

James actually had a better Sunday 36-hole total than Kevin - 133 (65-68) to 134 (64-70).
James' ambition is to be chosen for the Scotland team for the men's home internationals, which would mean him coming home again from the States after only a week or two at Arizona State.
Scott Mann from Carnoustie is another who would like to play for Scotland in the home internationals and he did his selection prospects no harm at all with a fifth place finish on 275, only four shots behind Kevin McAlpine.
